Kings of Leon Score Their First No. 1 Album on the Billboard 200 Chart News By Keith Caulfield | October 23, 2016 4:30 PM EDT
Kings of Leon earn their first No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart with the act’s seventh studio album, Walls. The set, which was released on Oct. 14 through RCA Records, earned 77,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Oct. 20. Of that sum, 68,000 were in traditional album sales.
The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new Nov. 5-dated chart (where Walls launches at No. 1) will be posted in full to Billboard’s websites on Tuesday, Oct. 25.
Walls is the band’s fourth top 10 album and follows three consecutive sets to reach the region: Mechanical Bull (No. 2 in 2013 from a 110,000 sales start), Come Around Sundown (No. 2; 2010) and Only by the Night (No. 4; 2009). The latter album was the group’s commercial breakthrough and first top 20-charting effort, and it launched the hit single “Use Somebody” (No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100). The album spent 132 weeks on the chart and has sold 2.5 million copies (and is the act’s only million-selling release).
The new album Walls was led by the single “Waste a Moment,” which became the seventh top 10 hit for the group on the Alternative Songs airplay chart. It has yet to reach the Hot 100. Like Solange two weeks ago with her chart-topping A Seat at the Table, Kings of Leon also had to wait 13 years for their first No. 1 — following their chart debut in 2003. The band first dented the list on Sept. 6, 2003 with the No. 113 debut and peak of Youth & Young Manhood. (Solange arrived on the chart on Feb. 8, 2003, with Solo Star.)
Drake’s former No. 1, Views, rises from No. 4 to No. 2 on the latest Billboard 200 with 40,000 units (down 7 percent), while the Suicide Squad soundtrack climbs 5-3 with 35,000 units (down 7 percent).
The Game notches his ninth top 10 album with the bow of 1992 at No. 4, earning 32,000 units (25,000 in traditional album sales). He previously hit the top 10 with The Documentary 2.5 (No. 6 in 2015), The Documentary 2 (No. 2; 2015), Blood Moon: Year of the Wolf (No. 7; 2014), Jesus Piece (No. 6; 2012), The R.E.D. Album (No. 1; 2011), LAX (No. 2; 2008), Doctor’s Advocate (No. 1; 2006) and The Documentary (No. 1; 2005).
Twenty One Pilots’ Blurryface ascends 7-5 with 26,000 units (though down 11 percent).
JoJo returns to the Billboard 200 after 10 years, as her new album Mad Love — her first full-length studio album since 2006 — bows at No. 6 with 25,000 units (19,000 in traditional album sales).
The pop singer-songwriter last appeared on the list with her previous full-length studio set, The High Road, which debuted and peaked at No. 3 on the Nov. 4, 2006-dated list. After nearly a decade of well-documented struggles with her former label, Blackground Records, the artist signed with Atlantic Records in 2014. Mad Love is JoJo’s third top 10 set, following The High Road and her self-titled debut, which bowed and peaked at No. 4 on July 10, 2004. The original Broadway cast recording of Hamilton steps back into the new top 10, rising from No. 11 to No. 7, with 23,000 units (down 5 percent). The album could rise again next week, following the Oct. 21 premiere of the PBS documentary special Hamilton’s America, as part of the network’s Great Performances series.
To round out the latest top 10: Ariana Grande’s Dangerous Woman rises 10-8 (22,000 units; down 12 percent), Travis Scott’s Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight climbs 12-9 (21,000; down 3 percent) and Green Day’s Revolution Radio falls 1-10 in its second week (21,000 units; down 78 percent).

Sales are horrible. So if #10 is only 21000 , how many copies did #200 sell? 100 copies!

These are not sales, they are units. (Equivalent albums based on full album sales, track sales and streaming)
Travis Scott with the #9 album for instance sold less than 1800 copies last week.

That's very depressing. I hope somehow albums come back in style and begin to sell millions again. Of course likely they'll just lose style completely other than with older demographic artists like aging rock bands.

A Kidz Bop album that misses the Top 10!! www.billboard.com/biz/articles/7557672/billboard-200-chart-moves-bob-dylans-nobel-prize-boosts-streams-by-53-essentialBillboard 200 Chart Moves: Bob Dylan's Nobel Prize Boosts Streams By 53% & 'Essential' Album DebutsBy Keith Caulfield | October 28, 2016 3:35 AM EDT Now, let’s take a closer look at some of the action on the latest Billboard 200 chart: — Sabrina Carpenter, Evolution - No. 28 — The singer/actress’ second full-length set — and first top 40 title — bows with 13,000 units (11,000 in traditional album sales). Her first full-length, 2015’s Eyes Wide Open, debuted and peaked at No. 43 with 12,000 units earned in its first week (10,000 sales). — Kidz Bop Kids, Kidz Bop 33 - No. 40 — The new Kidz Bop 33 album has a rather soft start at No. 40 (12,000 units; 11,000 in traditional album sales). That’s the lowest sales launch for any of the 33 Kidz Bop albums, falling below the 16,000 launch of the very first Kidz Bop title, back in 2001. Kidz Bop 33 is the lowest-charting Kidz Bop album -- in the main, numbered series of titles -- since the first Kidz Bop set debuted and peaked at No. 76. Since then, the second through 33rd volumes have all reached the top 40. — Gucci Mane, Woptober - No. 43 — Gucci Mane becomes the second artist to reach the Billboard 200 with a streaming-exclusive album, as Woptober bows at No. 43. The set earned 11,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Oct. 20, according to Nielsen Music. Earlier in 2016, Chance the Rapper’s streaming-only Coloring Book debuted at No. 8 (June 4). Woptober launches with 16.37 million on-demand streams of its songs. Comparably, Coloring Book bowed with 57.34 million. — Phil Collins, The Singles - No. 64 — Phil Collins logs his 12th charting effort with this new greatest hits set, The Singles. The two-disc version of the album includes 20 of his 21 top 40-charting hits on the Billboard Hot 100. (The only absent top 40 hit is “I Don’t Care Anymore,” which peaked at No. 39 in 1983.) — Bob Dylan, The Essential Bob Dylan - No. 76 — Following news of Bob Dylan’s selection as the Nobel Prize winner in literature (Oct. 13), the legend’s 2014 best-of set, The Essential Bob Dylan, arrives at No. 76 with 7,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Oct. 20, according to Nielsen Music. It’s Dylan’s 68th charting album on the tally, and second in 2016, following the new studio effort Fallen Angels (which debuted and peaked at No. 7 in June). In the week ending Oct. 20, Dylan’s total album sales grew 104 percent (to 19,000), while his on-demand audio and video streams jumped 53 percent (to 6.7 million). — Beastie Boys, Licensed To Ill - No. 129 — Thanks to a 30th anniversary reissue of the album on vinyl, the set returns to the list at No. 129 with 5,000 units (4,000 in traditional album sales). The set bows at No. 3 on the Vinyl Albums chart, with nearly 3,000 copies sold of the configuration. Licensed To Ill debuted on the Billboard 200 chart dated Nov. 29, 1986 at No. 92, marking the act’s first visit to the list. The album ascended to No. 1 on the March 7, 1987 chart, and spent a total of seven weeks at No. 1 – all consecutive.

www.yahoo.com/music/chart-watch-kings-of-leon-are-kings-of-the-chart-230623453.htmlChart Watch: Kings of Leon are Kings of the Chartby Paul Grein October 24, 2016 Kings of Leon land their first #1 album as WALLS enters the Billboard 200 in the top spot. This is the seventh studio album by the Nashville-based rock group, which consists of three brothers and a cousin. The group first broke into the top 10 in October 2008 with Only by the Night. That album spawned the top five smash “Use Somebody,” which won three Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year. The album finally peaked at #4 in September 2009, in its 48th week on the chart. The Kings debuted at #2 with their last two albums, Come Around Sundown (November 2010) and Mechanical Bull (October 2013). WALLS dislodges Green Day’s Revolution Radio from the #1 spot. This marks the first time that rock groups have had back-to-back #1 albums since June 2015, when Muse’s Drones dislodged Florence + The Machine’s How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful. Trivia note: Kings of Leon hit #1 three years after Queens of the Stone Age topped the chart with …Like Clockwork. I guess you could call these bands the “Kings” and “Queens” of the album chart. (Three acts with related names — The Kingston Trio, Carole King, and Queen—have also had #1 albums.) WALLS also enters the U.K.’s Official Albums Chart at #1. It’s the group’s fifth consecutive #1 album in the U.K. An album with a similar title, Pink Floyd’s The Wall, came close to being a transatlantic chart-topper. The album logged 15 weeks at #1 on the Billboard 200 in 1980, but it stalled at #3 in the U.K. Top AlbumsDrake’s Views rebounds from #4 to #2 in its 25th week. It’s the first album to spend its first spend its first 25 weeks in the top five since Adele’s 21 in 2011. Adele’s blockbuster holds the record (since separate mono and stereo charts were combined in 1963), having spent its first 39 weeks in the top five. Will Views approach Adele’s record? Stay tuned. And how many more consecutive weeks would 21 have logged in the top five if the album chart had incorporated digital track sales and streaming data in 2011, as it does now? The Suicide Squad soundtrack rebounds from #5 to #3 in its 11th week. It’s #1 on Top Soundtracks for the 11th week. The Game lands his eighth consecutive top 10 album as 1992 debuts at #4. The album is based on the rapper’s experiences as a 12-year-old growing up in Compton, Calif., in, yes, 1992. twenty one pilots’ Blurryface jumps from #7 to #5 in its 75th week. The album debuted at #1 in May 2015. JoJo lands her third consecutive top five album as Mad Love debuts at #6. Linda Ronstadt had a #3 album with the same title in March 1980. (That same year, Boz Scaggs had a top 20 hit with a song titled “JoJo.”) Hamilton rebounds from #11 to #7 in its 56th week. This is its 10th week in the top 10. Ariana Grande’s Dangerous Woman jumps from #10 to #8 in its 22nd week. The album debuted and peaked at #2 in May. Travis Scott’s Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight rebounds from #12 to #9 in its seventh week. Green Day’s Revolution Radio drops from #1 to #10 in its second week. Five albums drop out of the top 10 this week. Norah Jones’s Day Breaks drops from #2 to #11. OneRepublic’s Oh My My dives from #3 to #30. Solange’s A Seat at the Table drops from #6 to #15. Alter Bridge’s The Last Hero plummets from #8 to #146. Phantogram’s Three free-falls from #9 to #172. Sabrina Carpenter‘s EVOLution debuts at #28. Carpenter is the third artist with that surname to land a top 30 album. Karen and Richard Carpenter had five top five albums between 1970-74. Mary Chapin Carpenter had back-to-back top 20 albums in the mid-’90s. Look for Lady Gaga’s Joanne to debut at #1 next week. Michael Bublé ‘s Nobody But Me and Korn’s The Serenity of Suffering will probably open at #2 and #3, respectively. Chris Tomlin’s Never Lose Sight, Pentatonix’s A Pentatonix Christmas and I Prevail’s Lifelines will probably also debut in the top 10.
