Kenny Chesney - Cosmic Hallelujah - 2016
Didn't see any discussion about this one yet.. really enjoying the following songs: "Jesus and Elvis" "Trip Around The Sun" "Coach" "All The Pretty Girls"
kinda gives me vintage Chesney vibes and no longer that beach feel, definitely some hits here.

I'm really liking the album. It's definitely a sonic extension to The Big Revival which is okay with me since I really enjoyed The Big Revival. The 3-month delay in releasing the album definitely paid off as 3 of the added songs are really good songs and among my favorites on the entire album. Those added songs which are my favorites are "Trip Around the Sun", "All the Pretty Girls", and "Setting The World On Fire". My other two favorites on the album are "Bar At The End Of The World" and "Jesus and Elvis". I don't think "Jesus and Elvis" will ever see the light of day at radio (one can dream right), but I think all the others I mentioned are fair game for singles. Speaking of "Jesus and Elvis" I thought Kenny Chesney forgot what a steel guitar was. That steel solo was heavenly. The other song he added to the album is "Bucket". I'm not crazy about that song but the "change the b to an f (on my bucket list)" line is very clever and I like that. If I had creative control and could choose the next singles I'd do "Trip Around The Sun", "Bar At The End Of The World", then "Jesus and Elvis". "Trip Around The Sun" will be a very relevant song soon because of the line "so let's drink another beer, here's to another year". "Bar At The End Of The World" is a classic summertime feel-good Kenny song if released after "Trip Around The Sun" would be peaking in the summer. Then "Jesus and Elvis" will slow things down and close out the album.

For some reason, the Spotify stream of his album isn't available here in the US.

I'm liking the album a fair bit. It's not my favourite of his by any means, but I think there are a lot of decent songs on here. "Setting The World On Fire" is probably my favourite song of his in years, and is easily my top choice on the album. I'm also one who's always liked "Noise", though I agree that it probably wasn't the best lead single choice. "All The Pretty Girls" is another standout for me, and would probably be my choice for the next single. "Trip Around The Sun" would also work. "Coach" is a really nice song too, but I don't see it ever getting released. There's really nothing that I don't like on this album, just some songs I like more than others.

I am in love with this album. I think this ranks in my top three album favorites from Kenny.
1. When The Sun Goes Down (2004) 2. The Big Revival (2014) 3. Cosmic Hallelujah (2016)
"Trip Around The Sun," and "Coach" are my two of my favorites (in that order, too). Although, the more I listen to "Jesus and Elvis" it's easily becoming one of my favorites. While "Bucket" isn't the best song I've heard, I laughed when I first heard it because I thought it was going to be a sad song about "kicking the bucket." But, I can totally envision the song as a music video as the song plays. While most of the songs here are pretty upbeat and optimistic (even "Trip Around The Sun" which talks about the world coming to an end), they all are thoroughly entertaining.
I usually gripe on an album that is too heavy on uptempo song or too heavy on ballads. But, I really can't complain with this record.
Rankings:
1. "Trip Around The Sun" 2. "Coach" 3. "Bar At The End Of The World" 4. "Some Town Somewhere" 5. "Jesus And Elvis" 6. "Setting The World On Fire" 7. "Bucket" 8. "All The Pretty Girls" 9. "Winnebago" 10. "Rich and Miserable" 11. "Noise"
Edit: Single Predictions - "Noise" "Setting the World on Fire" "Trip Around The Sun" "Bar At The End Of The World" "Bucket" (if we get a fifth...Kenny did say that he would do a smaller tour in 2017 and a bigger tour in support of the album in 2018 so I think the album could see a pretty long run).

#1 country, #2 top 200 album with 79,000 sold. Congratulations, Kenny Chesney!

79,000 albums sold doesn't seem like that many considering how huge Chesney is. Kenny promoted the album 24/7 on about every media outlet you can think of, I thought for sure it would get over the 100K mark.

If it's any consolation, he is over 100K after week 2 now. Album sales in general are just so awful these days.

Great version of "I Want To Know What Love Is", nice cover! I'm not a big fan of this album, but there are some good songs.
