15Switchblade Holy White Hounds
Peak: #1 Weeks On: 23
Catchy and heavy alternative rock is one thing that satisfies my ears and this is no exception. It also has a great guitar solo halfway into the song. Listen to me!

14Stressed Out twenty one pilots
Peak: #3 Weeks On: 33
This is one of two singles that I can safely (key word, "safely") say that I love from Blurryface (the other being "Heavydirtysoul", time will tell whether that will wear on me). This is mainly due to the synths of this song which sound great. The duo also have a knack for songwriting, in this case, a nostalgia for their childhood days. Listen to me!

13Way Down We Go Kaleo
Peak: #7 Weeks On: 42
"Way Down We Go" stands out from other folk rock songs mostly because of the instrumentation. This is perhaps one of the heaviest folk rock songs to be released recently, and that is a compliment. The song starts out slowly, but it later picks up the pace, climaxing with a great bridge. Even though this did not reach #1 on my chart, let alone my top 5, this song spent 42 weeks on my chart, the second longest chart run on my chart as of yet, if my memory serves me right. Listen to me!

12Daydreaming Radiohead
Peak: #1 Weeks On: 23
Radiohead released a sad, but great record this year, which was said to be inspired by the divorce of frontman Thom Yorke. This, "Burn the Witch" and "True Love Waits" were all highlights from the album. One thing I like in particular is the outro of the song, when Yorke sings, "half of my life" in reverse. Instrumentally, it's also beautiful. Listen to me!

11Run or Hide Run River North
Peak: #1 Weeks On: 22
Awesome would be a right word to describe this song. This is another indie rock song you won't easily find on the charts, with some great drumming to end off each chorus, great background vocals at the first verse, and great instrumentation as well. This scraping the top 30 on the Alternative chart is a travesty, and this is also one of the most underrated rock songs of 2016. Listen to me!

Little something for everyone. I like seeing the underdog songs that I didn't see on many charts like "Call Off Your Dogs" ,"Going The Distance"and "Turbowolf".

10Tearing Me Up Bob Moses
Peak: #1 Weeks On: 22
"Tearing Me Up" was a song I discovered while it was near the end of it's chart run on the Canadian Alternative chart (even though it went for US Alt adds in March, it took the song 7 months after it's impact date to enter the top 40 of the Alt chart). It was pretty instant for me, and the more I listened to it, the more I liked it. The full song is eight minutes long which may be overlong for some, but the instrumental is excellent. I'm thinking of charting another song from their album, which was great too. Listen to me!

9Trip Switch Nothing but Thieves
Peak: #1 Weeks On: 33
My second favorite alternative #1 of the year, mostly because of Conor Mason's great vocals, plus the interesting blend of alternative rock and indie pop. Even though their follow-up didn't do very well, I hope they can have a successful sophomore era after this. Their album was good as well. Listen to me!

8Burn the Witch Radiohead
Peak: #1 Weeks On: 24
This was probably my favorite song off the great A Moon Shaped Pool. The band went for a heavier direction with their latest lead single (even though "Lotus Flower" was a good track as well), and it worked. The strings sound great too. Pretty sad it only settled for a top 30 peak on the Alternative chart, even though it outperformed "Flower". Listen to me!

7The Sound of Silence Disturbed
Peak: #1 Weeks On: 29
Disturbed impressed me this year with not one, but two great singles that saw them venture out of their comfort zone. "The Light" was a song that kept their hard rock sound intact while having some positive lyrics, something they don't usually write (at least from what I heard). Then we have this, which is probably my favorite single from them. Instead of their hard rock sound, they opted for a gorgeous symphonic rock sound for the cover of the Simon & Garfunkel classic, with David Draiman giving perhaps one of his best vocal performances yet. This was a song that even gave me chills at times, and it deservedly became their biggest hit on the Hot 100. Listen to me!

6Dark Necessities Red Hot Chili Peppers
Peak: #1 Weeks On: 29
Even though this took a while to click with me, and even though the band chose Danger Mouse to produce their album (this initially got me worried because I was afraid that would mean the song would deviate from their signature funk sound), "Dark Necessities" eventually became one of my favorite songs of the year. Even though it's great to hear Anthony Kiedis sing again, the main highlight of the song is the bassline from none other than Flea. Listen to me!

5Bang Bang Green Day
Peak: #1 Weeks On: 15
Had this been released earlier, this would've been my #1 of the year, because this track is one of, if not my favorite song to chart on Alternative in 2016. It's a return to their punk rock roots for the band, and even though it revisits the themes on their classic American Idiot, the effort paid off. "Bang Bang" has spent the most number of weeks at #1 on my chart, and is easily my favorite single from them since the singles off "Idiot". Listen to me!

4Reapers Muse
Peak: #1 Weeks On: 29
Like Revolution Radio was a return to form for Green Day, so was Drones for Muse. "Reapers" was probably the track that resembles classic Muse the most off their album, and it is a kickass track. Love the guitars and drums on this. Listen to me!

3Kiss This The Struts
Peak: #1 Weeks On: 33
Unlike most of the other bands on the Alternative chart, The Struts are a band that mix indie rock and glam rock to form an interesting sound. This is a sound that we don't usually hear. The song is very catchy as well, and their debut album was great. Listen to me!

2Mountain At My Gates Foals
Peak: #1 Weeks On: 53
Ok, this is my favorite #1 of the year. Both this and the title track have great build ups, even though the build-up is more gradual with this track, unlike "Inhaler" which was also great and deserved better than it's #20 peak on the Alternative chart. This was also the only song so far to spent at least a year on my chart. Hopefully Foals would have a successful era with their next album, following the success of this song. Listen to me!

1Pretty Pimpin Kurt Vile
Peak: #1 Weeks On: 39
This is another song which I consider to be underrated, even though I don't rave about it as much as I did back when it was charting. It's a great track with some introspective lyrics about a person who suffers from Depersonalization Disorder, and an excellent folk rock instrumental. And even though this is the best song off his latest album, it still is my #1 song of 2016. Should've done better on the alternative chart. Listen to me!
