Epic's hip-hop giants A Tribe Called Quest, A&M/Interscope's rockin' new Sting set, S-Curve's holiday gift from Tony-snagging Hamilton star Leslie Odom, Jr. and Capitol's U.K. siren Emeli Sandé are among the week's key releases. Here's what what the field looks like right now.

I get your point, although the press release doesn't mention specifics, so what that means in terms of numbers remains unclear. We'll probably have to wait until Tuesday for HDD's updated Top 15 SPS updated prediction to see whether they list it either there or in their Top 15 Sales prediction. Alternatively, Billboard should probably be posting their equivalent albums prediction for debuting albums sometime on Wednesday or Thursday and might mention it.

I agree there, and I'm not saying I expect it to challenge for #1 (or expect it to not do so; no real expectations), but I do think it's reasonable to assume it will do at least as much as Emeli Sandé's reported estimate.

Coming in at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 this week is Garth Brooks' new Walmart-exclusive box set, "Blame It All On My Roots." The six CD/two DVD set carries a bargain list price of $29.98 -- but was sale priced for $24.96. It moved 164,000 copies in less than four days on sale, as the album was released on Thanksgiving day (Thursday, Nov. 28). The newest tracking sales tracking week ended on Sunday, Dec. 1.


Brooks is no stranger to high-charting multi-disc sets. He famously debuted at No. 1 in 1998 with "The Limited Series," a six-CD box of his previously-released studio albums (each with a bonus track).

"Blame It All On My Roots" features four discs of newly-recorded cover songs, along with two discs of greatest hits. (The hits CDs are actually his 2007 "The Ultimate Hits" album.) The release was supported by a two-hour live CBS concert special that aired on Nov. 29.

Brooks last charted on the Billboard 200 with "The Ultimate Hits," which debuted and peaked at No. 3 on the Nov. 24, 2007 chart. Unlike the new box set, "The Ultimate Hits" was not exclusive to Walmart.

It's hard to make a prediction for his current boxed set but I see no reason why it couldn't be at least #4, if not contend for #1 next week. Given that all other new albums except A Tribe Called Quest one aren't expected to do much, the only other contenders that come to mind in the BB 200 would be holdovers such as the Trolls album, A Pentatonix Christmas and Sremmlife 2 as well as the Leonard Cohen's albums.

Regarding Garth Brooks' last box set, its numbers were from almost 3 years ago, which had a very different CD buying marketplace. Plus, being released on Thanksgiving and on sale probably boosted sales considerably compared to what would had been a normal sales week. That said, I'm pretty sure he still has quite a loyal fan base.

Seems like prior to release HDD often has a blindspot to country, like they seemed to forget about Garth till today, haven't seen anything on Miranda (though they've had stuff on Bruno and Metallica). Odd since country seems to be selling well (see the Blake/Ariana showdown).

With some forecasts putting Bruno Mars’ first-week number as low as around 125k-175k, many observers are expressing surprise—if not outright shock—at the low number for what was once expected to be a Q4 monster, with some attributing the situation to Mars’ acting as his own manager. The ultra-talented, highly charismatic artist will have a series of high-profile TV looks leading up to his Friday release, including the AMAs, 60 Minutes and Carpool Karaoke, which may spike 24k Magic’s performance to something more, well, 24-karat. Might we also see deep discounting at retail and DSPs to help push the total higher? It’s certainly fair to say that an established artist manager would be pulling all available levers. Stay tuned.

If those are Bruno's numbers I wonder what Miranda's look like, since I'd think Bruno would be higher. On the other hand HDD has had a few misses this year, & I'm not sure I see 200k+ for Metallica happening as I think they forecasted earlier.
