How would dropping music videos for the wrong songs help boost album sales??? Promotion for multiple songs at once drives people to check out the full album. They're getting a much larger taste of the album at once than one single offers. The only weird thing, though, is that IFIC doesn't have a video either. It's fine for the other tracks to have videos as well, but it's weird that the main single itself doesn't. |

It's funny how much people care about this. Drake, Adele, The Weeknd, Rihanna, etc... none of them seem motivated by the charts. I'm sure they like having hits but none of them have to prove themselves anymore, so why should we give af about whether their promo is coordinated.

I feel like there's been a wave of people complaining about videos recently, it wasn't that uncommon in the post-Magic Stick world from what I remember. Songs have been barreling up without videos for a while.

I agree. About 4x a week in the Rihanna and LOTB thread someone is asking about a video. I'm like damn these songs are already hits. It's not that serious.

If a song is good, it doesn't need a video. Besides we don't need to see Rhiannas face. If MTV was still a musimusic video station or would be cool. But using my data to watch videos isn't what I want to do. We listens to music we don't need to watch it.

I hate to agree with the last two posts so don't link this to them but:
Do videos really do THAT much? As long as there are lyric videos or audio/videos on YouTube, that often is all that's needed. Other than extreme examples, do videos help a song out in the long term?
Agree with Austin that multiple videos from album tracks can be helpful toward album sales or general increased awareness toward that artist without relying on radio to push a song. I Feel It Coming is a radio single. It's doing fine. Why not put other songs out there to cover other channels?
Of course when an act promotes in a way other than the norm, their entire marketing team should be fired...

Could budgets be an issue? Only so much marketing dollars go into an albums promotion. And an artist has to pay back to the label certain fees like recording the album costs, and I'm assuming video costs. But I guess nowadays videos can be made pretty cheaply.

I still don't understand why can't Drake have the videos for "One Dance" and "Controlla" published on YouTube. I mean, they exist. Actual money, effort was put into them. And it's not like most people even know that these videos exist, because he released them on Apple Music with pretty much zero promo or coverage.
I'd also really appreciate if there was an official audio for songs that don't have a video, because you have to find some bootlegs that will most likely end up being taken down for copyright, as a replacement for the official videos in playlists. So why can't they put out the official audio for "Love On The Brain' or "I Feel It Coming"?

Your question about having an official audio video is a valid one. I mean, Closer did pretty well while having only the lyric one and even when the official video became available, it has stayed the more successful one, and for Shape of You have a lyric one was a good stopgap decision until the officialvideo came out, and continues to be a significant for in YouTube. |

The exact wording of the rule is "descending" songs.
In the same way songs below 50/20 can still chart while not descending, songs below 52/25 can too
Even if both songs manage to hang on another week, both appear to be nearing the end though

If they're learning that most streams for YouTube videos are really to have the audio in the background (which many have suggested), it makes sense financially to not have a real video and just have a lyric video or something.
It also makes sense to see if videos can help highlight other songs on an album, though it will be interesting to see if that proves to be financially worthwhile.

I think it's starting to change now, but definitely in the past, music videos absolutely helped songs out a whole lot. There's numerous examples of videos shooting to #1 or way up the chart after the video is released, including Rihanna's Stay, Wrecking Ball, Anaconda, Drunk in Love, Bad Blood, etc. Even before Youtube videos counted towards the Hot 100, videos could help a song's performance, as shown in the flashback charts I remember in 2007 when What Goes Around Comes Around shot from #8 to #1 the week it's video came out and went on sale to iTunes. About the recurrent rules, it seems they really need to simplify it because it's getting so damn hard to tell when a song will be removed. |

Those video examples are extreme cases though. Wrecking Ball and Anaconda were viral videos, Bad Blood was highly promoted. Of course those ones will help the song's performance in the longer run but I'm talking about the average cases with average non-event videos. If I Feel It Coming has a video coming out, unless it's an event or has potential to go viral, I doubt it'll do much to help the song on the charts.
