I am somewhat puzzled to why Love On Top did not make the singles chart. It spent 7 weeks at number one, and it charted for 57 weeks which is 13th most longest ever. Anyone care to explain what criteria Billboard used?

METHODOLOGY: The Greatest of All-Time Top R&B/Hip-Hop Artists, Songs and Albums rankings are based on weekly performance on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs (from its Oct. 20, 1958 inception through Feb. 25, 2017) and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums (from its Jan. 30, 1965 inception through Feb. 25, 2017). Songs and Albums are ranked based on an inverse point system, with weeks at No. 1 earning the greatest value and weeks at lower spots earning the least. Due to changes in chart methodology over the years, eras are weighted differently to account for chart turnover rates over various periods. Artists are ranked based on a formula blending performance, as outlined above, of all their Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart entries.

It's a shame there was no R&B Singles chart from late 1963 to early 1965. The rise of the Supremes and Motown is a crucial element in the history of the R&B / Soul format.

Interesting to note that in the Singles Top 100 there are very few Hip Hop songs, while for the Artist one there a few more of them and for the Albums there quite some more of them by Hip Hop artists, although not too many that recent. Another thing I note in the Top 100 Albums, is that neither Views nor Lemonade made it.
