Despite the #1 purge here, I'm just glad it made the top 10 this time round, unlike the 2016 rankdown.

Man, RSR are a band who seemingly have no stans here yet still do so well in these rankdowns. I think they have the lowest SD here again.

Holy crap I correctly predicted the entire top 5! Guess you guys are fairly predictable Lydia was a predictable but nice #1 I suppose, in retrospect I ranked it a bit too high but it's still a good song. It's probably Highly Suspect's worst single but that speaks way more to the quality of their singles in general then anything. I'm fine with SFN not winning since it already won one rankdown and Lydia hasn't won any.

I'm happy with the way this ended up. Great Top 10.
I only wish that "Halo" and "Cut the Cord" were able to edge in.

25. Nobody Praying for Me - Seether As far as Seether sonhs go; this was pretty ok. Nowhere near the greatness of "Let You Down"
24. Outside - Foo Fighters This one also came in "Outside" (no pun intended) my Top 40.
23. Rebellion - Linkin Park f/ Daron Malakian One of the better Linkin Park songs out there, but still left me unimpressed.
22. New Wave - Islander I wasn't impressed with this song at all. there was a breath of melodic value in the chorus, but not enough for me. Not s fan of his vocal delivery either.
21. Carnivore - Starset I don't see the big deal about this band. They are o.k.. This the best song I've heard from that, but it still doesn't blow me away.
20. The Vengeful One - Disturbed Disturbed is always good. Flawless vocals for this type of Nu metal. This sounded better to me today than yesterday.
19. Dead Inside - Muse Great song. I would have put this song in the top 10 on an Alt rankdown, but for an Active one; "Psycho" should have been higher.
18. Could Have Been Me - The Struts One of the best Rock songs in recent years. This band hits the spot from all angles.
17. Cut the Cord - Shinedown One of Shinedown's best and the last song I truly loved from this band. That intro is pure gold.
16. Tragedy + Time - Rise Against Nice to see this one come in this high. A bit surprised, but at the same time, not so much.
15. Deep Six - Marilyn Manson One of the best hard rock songs of the year and one of the bands' best ever. Everyone should have put this one in their top 5.

14. An Island - Chevelle This one is pretty cool. I think there were 58 songs better than this one that year.
13. Absolution Calling - Incubus Incubus hardly ever disappoints. This was one of my top Rock songs of the year. It fit every genre and should have been a giant hit on Alt chart too. Incubus is a band that sounds better with each listen. True story. I'll probably give "Nimble Bastard" the biggest boost in my weekly top 50 next week?
12. Jenny - Nothing More This had a really cool chorus but not much else. The intro didn't grab me at all and I only like his vocals in the chorus. I didn't chart it low; just not as high as everyone else. I loved "Mr MTV" tho.
11. Halo - Starset I don't get the big deal about this band. It must be the semi- electronic effects they add that tune me off? the vocal echos and static and what not, because melodically it's right up my alley.

The top 10. My thoughts. I usually don't go hand in hand with what's popular on the actual charts. I go for the underdogs or most melodic from the get go.
10. Heavy is the Head - Zac Brown Band f/ Chris Cornell I probably would have ranked this higher this year. The best part of the song were Chris' vocals.
9. Angels Fall - Breaking Benjamin This is one of the band's best songs. My favorite is always, and till the end of time; "Diary of Jayne".
8. Failure - Breaking Benjamin Back to back action for this band. This one is top 40 worthy, but not better than "Angels Fall" not by a long shot. I usually like one song from a band; so much more than the other, and vice a versa.
7. Congregation - Foo Fighters One of my favorite Foo Fighter songs. Right up there with "Long Road To Ruin", "Monkey Wrench" and "Everlong". Plus I ranked it right where it belongs. Or so it seems?
6. Cirice - Ghost Another great song. I would have charted this if it had followed; "Pinacle To The Pit" as second single.
5. The Otherside - Red Sun Rising I burnt out on this band pretty quick, but this is their best offering.
4. 3. Royal Blood songs. I'm glad "Figure You Out" beat "Little Monster". It's way more melodic in the guitar works too.
2. Something from Nothing - Foo Fighters I like this better now than when it first came out.
1. Lydia - Highly Suspect Great song to introduce a new band. Surely Top 20 worthy, but to me there were 15 songs better than this one. In the end this top 20 was pretty predictable. The big names and top hits of the actual year.

Never saw that #1 coming! But guess it makes sense, since many of HS's songs fit reasonably well into Alternative radio. Thanks for the great hosting Daryl the Beryl. As always, some great Active rock songs during the year. Many of which were new to me, so the vast majority of my ratings were based on first listens. That's my excuse for the pitiful placing in the Pulse Rankings! Will definitely be taking part in the 2014 RD too.
