Going through the songs now, and, I just have to say...holy hell, "Untraveled Road" (particularly in the verses) is a ripoff of Linkin Park's "Bleed It Out". I mean, good lord.

I'm probably about 60-70% into the list and am finding it really hard to rank some of these songs since so many of them sound so much alike. Active was so freaking generic back then. I'm not sure if it's much better now, but man... I'm not really into about half of these on the list.

I just submitted mine'z list!
Quick assessment: I think Active Rock was better in 2016 than it was in 2015. In fact, I think Active Rock bottomed out from late 2011 through 2012 and 2013 to early 2014. Not that there are no songs in that time period that I like, just fewer. To me, 2014 was better than 2012 and 2013, 2015 was better than 2014, 2016 was better than 2015, and so far 2017 is off to a better start than 2016.

It kind of feels like every Active Rock year-end chart of the past decade has been full of bad songs, but it also has saving graces that make the Rankdown process worth it. For that reason alone, I'm excited to get to the late-2000's. It's full of crap songs, but man, there are some REALLY good songs, too. 2006 and 2007 has Nine Inch Nails, Serj Tankian, Hurt, Red, The White Stripes, Fair To Midland, Deftones, perhaps the best period for Avenged Sevenfold, a fun Pearl Jam era, the Stadium Arcadium-era RHCP, Coheed and Cambria, Thrice sneaks in there...oh, and TOOL.
Getting through some of these Rankdowns will be worth it to get to the mid-2000's and earlier.

I was looking in the "God, If You Are Above..." thread and found this piece of gold.  The worst song from them for me is "I'm Not A Vampire." It's like nails to my damn ears. At least I can tolerate this one to some extent. I believe I told this story before, but the only reason I heard a Falling in Reverse song was because it was Christmas Eve 2013 and I was watching live porn and the girl who I was watching played "Pick Up the Phone" and I had to pretend I liked it in order for her to strip for me. Back when Green Baron was young and naive. |

But I totally hear the "Bleed It Out" comparison now that you brought it up. The guitar and clapping in the verses are very similar. |

Submitted my list. Despite this year being pretty weak overall in terms of quality, I had a hard time choosing my #100 since while there are some back songs, nothing is quite Take It All Back bad and the bottom 5 or so on my list are all pretty equal in terms of badness. There's a band I have two songs of in my bottom 5 but I actually don't hate them, even though both of their 2015 singles suckkkkkkk. #1 was easy, I'm pretty tired of this song now but it was one of my favorite songs of all time for a while and I still love it.
