Swizz Beats and his misogynoir can go right to the trash dump. That ish in reference to Janet is so 2004.

I choose not to take that joker seriously. I'll let Janet's 27 top 10 hits, iconic videos, and 10 #1s speak for themselves. You better read her resume for balding, bad edges, washed producer

I think Swizz was thinking about his wife when he made that statement about Janet!

Now that we've rightfully dragged Swiss Cheese let's not take our foot of Janet and her team who've slept on her legacy and pushing that aspect of her career.i know the SB was a detour but outside if new albums and tours she has been doing I need her social media team and her to start pushing her entire catalog more, often and efficiently. People kinda sleeping on her greatness.

Rolling Stone's Best 500 Albums of All Time (2020) Funny I searched and searched and searched the whole list. None of Swizz Beatz' work, be it artist or producer, appears anywhere near this list. Hmmm.....

She is so stunning.
I'm not surprised she pressed pause on Black Diamond. She gets to spend quality time with her son instead of having to squeeze it in around work and travel.

How is the "janet" album not on the list? That album truly set the blueprint for female artists coming after her.

How is the "janet" album not on the list? That album truly set the blueprint for female artists coming after her. ^That album always gets the shaft, even pre-Superbowl. I remember it wasn't even mentioned by name in her 2001 MTV Icon special, there was just an NSYNC mini-video of TTWLG and Jamie Foxx parodying the Rolling Stone cover or something, then they jumped right to The Velvet Rope. (Also that special reminded me how messy AF turn-of-the-millennium MTV was.) And in later tributes and lists of accolades, Rhythm Nation, Control, The Velvet Rope, and All For You (the song) get all the focus even though janet. is her best selling album and was when she finally found her footing on the charts in Europe. In other news, I listened to Damita Jo on a whim today and crystalized more thoughts about it. The money section is definitely from Strawberry Bounce through I Want You. All of those songs are gold and could've been in contention for singles if the Superbowl Incident hadn't happened. The rest of the album is more throwaway except for Moist and Just a Little While. It's not that the whole album is subpar, it's just the first time Janet actually gave us filler since 1984.

For those that were aware of The Velvet Rope era while it was happening, what was the reaction like when she dropped Got Til It's Gone as the lead single?
I'm thinking in comparison to the mixed response to Just a Little While in 2004, though that song has aged really well.

People kept saying it was a Joni Mitchell/Q-Tip record. It got minimal radio play from what I remember and for a Janet lead single at the time that was unheard of!

I was a huge Janet fan at the time, janet was (and still is) one of my favorite albums ever. I remember it was a strange reaction, bc everyone was expecting huge pop hits from her at the time and this was just so different. I thought the song was cool, but definitely a major departure. IMO Velvet Rope and Butterfly are very similar artistic evolutions for Janet and Mariah. For some reason velvet rope seems to be rewarded more in hindsight, but both are terrific gems that were under appreciated at the time of release.

I think some stations tried to play it but not many were here for it. "Together Again" came out very quickly after. I believe they said it was a "buzz" single at the time. It was pretty much a flop but Janet fans knew Janet liked it so they tried to support it. (well they screamed for it on Oprah and on her tour).. lol The "Just A Little While" release was kind of a mess too. Not just because of The Superbowl either In Boston I heard a more Urban mix of it but knew or heard of the "pop" mix as well. I knew people who liked the Urban mix but then the pop mix started getting play and ended up on the album and that put a damper on it. Strange era. I know a lot is blamed on The Superbowl but radio seemed to want to play "Just A Little While" but it was a dud...

The video for "Got Til' It's Gone" did it for me. In fact, it's one of her most streamed songs on Spotify which indicates it's still resonating today.
