First-day sales are typically a show of the level of strong interest and/or fandom a person has, so it's always nice to see a good showing (if you're a fan of that person, anyway). But if the song isn't good or is poorly promoted, a big first-day rally means nothing; it's going to end up a flop. Conversely, if the song fits what the audience wants to hear and is promoted well, a slow start isn't going to stop that song from growing into a hit. So I can't really get into this back and forth over Camila/5H fans not being able to push their girl up to #1 on iTunes. Of course she didn't get to #1 - she's still a mostly unknown quantity to casual listeners, and the 5H fanbase was fractured over the messy split so she has a smaller group to start with.
Plus, consider who Camila was not able to pass: Bieber (x2), Selena Gomez, two former 1D members. 5H's fanbase even in whole was never bigger than those artists' bases. CITC's first day was fine. Not eye-popping, but certainly no disaster. She outpeaked a Katy and Nicki collab, after all.
I'd be worried more about Camila's long-term prospects - I'm still a bit put off by the Sia sound-alike thing - but that means nothing for this particular song. I'm thinking it could turn out like Jessie J when she released Domino. Sounding like a Katy Perry impersonator didn't stop that song from becoming a hit, but I do think it killed most chances for anyone to become invested in Jessie J as an artist.

People pretending that the 5H fandom is known for buying their faves music has me screaming. Do I need to remind you of the album sales? The poor attendance at their tour?
If somebody thought that Camila would be able to get in the top 5 on the first day, then that person is either delusional or hasn't been following how these things work

Yeah her iTunes showing thus far has been fine imo. Expecting her to have strong sales out of the gate after going solo from a group with 1 hit song and 1 hit feature on her own is a bit unrealistic.

And the 5H fan base has historically done a good job at backing their lead singles on iTunes.

She has hardcore Sia Syndrome, but I gotta admit that chorus is kinda hot.

Yuck. I like most of the new music out now but can't get into this. Maybe a grower.

I've changed my mind on this - I actually think it's a strong first single. I don't think it will blow up but I reckon it will have decent longevity and will hopefully lay the groundwork for something more distinctive.

Excellent performance on the BBMA! Camila did a very good job. She looked great, had a lot of energy, and did very well. Always loved Camila.

Pretty nice performance. Still not sure if I like the song or not. It samples "Genie In A Bottle" right?

I didn't like the song on the first listen but now I am hooked. Probably the best pop song to come out this year along with "Chained to the Rhythm" and "Green Light." I hope it does well. I love Fifth Harmony and do wish Camila well on her solo journey. I just hope the group gets their act together and releases something soon. I want a chart war.

I really love the song now.
I enjoyed her performance at the Billboard awards. The staging was incredible as were the dancers.

I absolutely love this. I'm in the apparent minority on Pulse that loved this chick in 5H so I was always perched for her solo debut and she didn't fail to deliver for me. I am excited to see this do well (hopefully) and to for more music to come from her. <3

Nearing Top 50 is a great sign considering the adds date isn't till tomorrow. There is clearly interest.

I like this but it sounds really dated. I could see this being a big hit in 2010. I think she should have released something more low-key. I also think no one really wants to hear a generic song talking about emotional turmoil in a club and its kind of like asking to flop. I thought the same thing when Bebe Rexha released "No Broken Hearts" last year lol. It just rings as so inauthentic and obviously pandering. I Could be way over thinking it and this could become a huge hit. I think it could do moderately well, but I don't think it's a smash.

No Broken Hearts was like, as watered down, personality-lacking and vapid as possible. The music video literally resembles a Kylie Jenner ad. There is absolutely no aspect of substance. CITC is definitely not similar to that and it will see way more success than Bebe's song.

I don't think this sounds 2010 at all. It sounds like it belongs on Sia's last album to me. Which in a way is dated, but not THAT dated. This is fairly generic, but perfectly radio friendly. I can see it being a slow burning hit for her. But to me it seems like one of those hits that doesn't really push anyone's career forward.

I hated this girl in 5H mainly cause the vocals they gave her were annoying at times and I never liked Bad Things either but I gotta admit this is a FUCKING jam and she was my favorite performer of the night at the BBMA's The song has a Sia-influence written all over but it works fairly damn well for her and I love it. Hope this becomes a huge hit

I totally did not expect to love this, but I do. That "Genie in a Bottle" sample is genius.
