I assume you must be joking, because I wouldn't exactly call Paris and SJLT flops.

Also, I don't know about a Chainsmokers collab, but Bieber just tweeted a David Guetta collab will be out Fri. It might be too much if it's just another single or too soon if it's the lead single from his next album, given he's already had 4 featured hits in the last few months, might be risking overexposure.

Paris maybe underperformed but it's tough to follow up with a huge hit after Closer, anything will feel like a disappointment. SJLT is awesome and I don't think it underperformed.

The Chainsmokers didn't underperform. They over saturated if anything.

Closer was still a mega hit when Paris came out and then all of the sudden (despite being vocals from Chris Martin) SJLT dropped. If all songs were spread out over a year, each would would have done better than it had done, but it doesn't matter. They just release the album for fun (for the fans) and already promised new promoted singles later this year. the fans demanded an album and they promised more new singles later this year. The are not worried about anything right now

I'd say Paris did much better than it's given credit for. It barely had time to stand alone as a single before Something Just Like This was released so it was already sandwiched between the megabit Closer and the song with Coldplay, yet it still did well in the fact of their own competition. Which did better, Paris of SJLT?

Frankly, any top 10 is a hit, so this is a ridiculous discussion. Even Ed Sheeran couldn't follow up his big #1 with a top 10 hit, and neither did Adele. So, "Paris" outperforming those second singles shows it was a hit. And now Chainsmokers had yet another hit. So, again, why is this a discussion?

Fact: as we all know, only 100 songs are eligible for "hit" status, each and every year. My only hope is that someday Billboard expands the year end chart to 200 positions so more songs can be "hits" - ;)

they released 2 singles that did fine - great. Nothing from their album charted well and they haven't released anything else to recover. This happened to them before... they just keep releasing flops till smth sticks

As everyone is trying to explain to you, nothing from their album has charted well because no singles have been released from the album and therefore nothing from their album is expected to do well until something is released as a single.

They haven't released anything to recover? But there's nothing to recover from since they haven't released any singles which have flopped.

Ok, they released an album, and besides The One, Paris and SJLT have charted in Hot 100, but, they haven't released nothing as the next single. They pulled their song featuring Jhene Aiko, it doesn't count. The One was just promotional, Paris went to top 10 on BB Hot 100 and #3 on Pop, SJLT peaked at #3 on BB Hot 100 and was #1 on Pop. Is that a flop?

Also, MDNO debuted at #1 on BB Hot 200. Still that a flop??

Of course if a song is released at a s**tty time and has its points split in half then that can be an exception. Sorry if I left that out. But a ton of the songs on your list just had massive debuts and completely fell off after that. And All I want for Xmas was not a hit because it wasn't even released as a song eligible for charting. If it had been, it would have certainly been a hit.
