It's due to many factors. The specific audience numbers of course vary from week to week, total radio listenership changes over time, and Billboard keeps changing the # of stations on their panel, but the specific way airplay is measured (which Nielsen does for them) hasn't changed. 110m AI is definitely on the low side for a no. 1, although airplay numbers have generally been on the increase since 2011.

If TWIL manages to hang on to #2 again next week it will tie the all time record for most weeks at #2 (regardless of whether or not the song reached #1). After debuting at number one in 1995, Whitney Houston's "Exhale (Shoop Shoop)" fell to #2 for 11 consecutive weeks behind "One Sweet Day". No song has ever tallied 12 weeks at number 2. Foreigner's "Waiting For a Gurl Like U?" ? Foreigner and Missy Elliott's "Work It" both hold the record for the most weeks at number 2 for a song that never reached number one, with ten weeks each in the runner-up slot. I'm talking about the most total weeks at number two, even including songs that spent time on top.

The fuck is that abomination at #94?
Anyways, now that DNA seems almost guaranteed to make the YE, can LOVE or LOYALTY do it too? They've stuck around a long time for an album bomb, so if either of them get pushed as singles, I feel like they could make it.

If Bieber's draw wasn't getting bigger and bigger each song release than Bruno would easily be the biggest male of decade.

I just noticed a glaring mistake in this week's article (checked the site, and Billboard hasn't corrected it): I'm the One has been at #3 for the past 5 weeks, not 4, which makes sense, because after it debuted at #1, Despacito has of course been #1 for those 5 weeks. Thus, Justin has held two songs in the top 3 for the last 6, not 5 weeks.

^ Right! Although to be fair, I could see how the mistake could be made, because his mind was probably focused on the five weeks of Despacito at #1 part and that ITO was below it all these weeks, and forgetting that ITO actually debuted at #1 before. A more thorough editorial process would have caught it though.

It was on for 20 weeks. On week 19 it fell below the top 50, then on week 20 got a little boost back to the zone that obviously didn't take.

weird how paris was so firmly stuck in the top10, and how it completely collapsed after. Like even the week right after: 10 -> 10 -> 19
wtf?

There was also that one time where 'We Don't Talk Anymore' went 9 -> 11 -> 21 -> 26

In that case though it was a special case because it had run multiple months at discount, which boosted its sales and gave radio more confidence to run it. First the discount ended and it left the top 10 then radio started dropping it like a hot potato.
