Hey, I found this CD in a small store at Nags Head and was wondering if anybody else has a copy? It was 2-discs and looked to be an official release, but when I got the CD open it seemed to be more of a bootleg / underground release. All of the mixes seem to just have (Club Mix) or (Dub Mix) after them so it's not like there's any notable DJs here. There's 19 tracks total. Any info...??

It's more like a "sample track", but none of the vocals were vocoded or manipilated. It's a nice Latin sounding track. It makes you feel like you're on the beach on a warm summer day. It's very light and uplifting. I wish it was a full vocal mix. I have been looking everywhere for the Ben Watt dub of the track.

I have a few random Sade mixes but none of By Your Side. I used to have the maxi single with the Neptunes remix but no telling where that went.

Those mixes were pretty good. But I am totally shocked that the Ben Watt remix was not included on the single in most territories.

I know which CD maxi you are talking about. Those mixes were pretty good. But I am totally shocked that the Ben Watt remix was not included on the single in most territories. Sorry, but that CD maxi was s**t!Β All the mixes were absolute s**t!Β There's a reason why the only club mix, by EBTG's Ben Watt was not included on ANY of the commercial singles worldwide.Β That's because Sade is a pathetic, bitter c**t who hates dance music and doesn't want to be associated with it.Β Back in 1994, Phillip Damien, a fairly then-unknown remixer /producer, remixed the "Love Deluxe"-album track "Pearls", which was almost an acappella song, in his own.Β It caused a major raucous in clubland.Β He submitted it to Epic Records, but Sade said no way, and refused to released it, leaving Epic unable to capitalized on it.Β In the UK, many labels rushed to released a cover of the song, they did OK in the clubs, but nothing compared to the original mix.Β Phillip Damien became a very in-demand remixer then, remixing Kylie's comeback single "Confide In Me" for the US market, amongst others. A year later, Hani followed suit, and remixed "I Never Thought I'd See The Day" (from "Stronger Than Pride").Β Once again, a big hit in clubland, on both sides of the Atlantic.Β And once again, Sade refused to release it.Β However, this time, a very similar, almost identical version was released.Β Germany's Honesty 69, released by ZYX, covered it pretty well, the vocals were similar to Sade's, and the music was basically copied note by note off Hani's version. Just like Phillip Damien, Hani becamer an in-demand producer/remixer.Β He created another bootleg, this time Michael Jackson's "Earth Song" (spookily enough, also on Epic).Β The difference, however, is that Jacko is not a musical snob like Sade, and he gave permission to release it, he liked it very much. The rest, as they say, is HIStory.

I wasn't aware all that had happened. It's kinda funny if you think about it that Sade didn't want to be associated with dance music. That's some extra money in her bank account. And some Billboard Dance/Club Play chart positions and some maxi single sales. Her U.S. CD Maxi Single for "By Your Side" was on the maxi sales chart for quite a while. And the U.S. 12" promo for "By Your Side" had the Ben Watt Lazy Dog Vocal Mix on it. The official 12" single skipped that mix. On a side note, there were some official mixes of "Paradise" but they were not released in the U.S. I have a U.S. 12" that has a remix of "Paradise" on it. It's a decent mix of the track, but it's too short.

BIO: Hani began collecting records and DJ'ing at an early age, but unlike many creative people, he decided to pursue an education in all aspects of music before jumping right into the business. After four years at the University of Denver, Hani came to New York to study at the Institute of Audio Research. After graduating, Hani started working at Bass Hit Studio. While there, he worked for Masters At Work, Roger Sanchez and Deee-Lite. But it was when Hani, on a whim, decided to do an unauthorized remix of Sade's "I Never Thought I'd See The Day" that his luck began to change. The track appeared all over the UK's and New York's club scene as a white label and was voted by Muzik Magazine one of the top three remixes of 1994. Hani continued going after songs he wanted to work on, and after transforming tracks like Michael Jackson's "Earth Song," which went to #1 on the UK charts (staying there for six weeks), Hani found himself increasingly busy. Other successes soon followed, like Sting's "Sister Moon," which was originally released as a white label. But when the cut turned out to be a floor-filler, officialdom took note: A&M bought the remix. Soon thereafter, Delacy's "That Look," partially reproduced and reconstructed by Hani, became another huge club anthem. However, overwhelmed with remix requests, this selective remixer rejected many offers, preferring to work on tracks that are meaningful to him. Such is the case with two of Hani's proudest accomplishments to date: remixing Jeff Wayne's theme song to the movie War Of The Worlds. Sony plans to release the revamped soundtrack to the Byron Haskin classic film in fall 1998. The second is his remix of Amber's "One More Night" which played as successfully on radio as it did in the clubs. After making a name for himself with both his remix skills and creative marketing approaches, Hani was ready for the next step upΓproducing records. Hani's recent productions include Joi Cardwell's 1997 hit "Soul To Bare" and Electron Ryder's "Follow Me," to be released this fall on the UK's Sidewalk Music.
Other significant Hani remixes include a reworking of Jean Michele Jarre's "Oxygene 8," commissioned by the composer himself, and "To the Moon & Back" by Savage Garden, once again requested by the artists themselves. Hani is currently working on a solo project featuring a new singer that he discovered.
The Phillip Damien mix of Alicia Bridges' "I Love the Nightlife (Disco 'Round)" rocks!
