#41: Turn It Into LoveStatsPoints: 536 Average: 38.286 Std Dev: 14.515 Charts Japan #34 [Main Oricon chart, not the International artists chart] History & Tidbits "Turn It Into Love" was released as a Japanese exclusive single in 1989. It was a sizable hit in that territory even without much promotion or a video release. Hazell Dean heard Stock Aitken Waterman working on the track and asked to record it as well for her debut album and had a minor hit with the song in the UK. The song has been covered many times in Japan over the decades. Notable Losses: Another top 10 (!) and to additional rankings in the top half. Host Opinion Kylie sings this with such earnest yearning and conviction that it is a true standout on her debut. I probably under-ranked this a bit, but again Kylie's discography is so strong it was a tough competition. Fun fact, I sprung the money several years ago to acquire the 3" CD single from Japan. We are only five away from the end of the bottom half. So far Juanca is doing the best with only six gone from the top half. Coming Attractions: - PWL - 4, Deconstruction - 2, Parlophone - 4, Roc Nation - 0 - The second tie! - The end of the collaborations - Shockingly neither of the remaining two #70s will be knocked out - Nine participants will lose at least one top 10 ranking - The point totals drop below 500 once we enter the top half - Several smash hits make surprise early exits! #40: Put Your Hands Up (If You Feel Love)StatsPoints: 531 Average: 37.929 Std Dev: 17.796 Charts Australia #50 United Kingdom #93 US Dance #1 History & Tidbits "Put Your Hands Up (If You Feel Love)" was the fourth and final single from Aphrodite. Ironically, it was the second highest charting single from the album in her native Australia, despite minimal promotion and no video. The song itself is a club track about dancing in the club and doing exactly what the title says. It is also her first collaboration with Nervo. The digital maxi single bundle came with the excellent B-side "Silence" which you should check out if you've never heard it. Notable losses: A top 10 and seven more in the top half! This is the first song that more than half of all participants ranked it in their top half. Unfortunately that was not enough to propel it to the actual top half. Host Opinion Completes the opening trilogy of Aphrodite quite nicely. It's not as strong as the first two singles, but it is a superb club track. And it's release added to Kylie's impressive pile of B-Sides material. Anyone up for a Kylie B-Side rankdown, perhaps? Participant Rankingsaerodynamite - 8 Albie - 18 π

Awwww All I see :( Love how she sounds there, and the understated smooth quality of the song. Skirt kept surprising me despite my having heard it only a couple of times - it kept beating other more familiar songs. Her most interesting single in the past decade :) I liked how creative and unusual it was. I particularly like the Ralphi Rosario remix.

SURPRISE!!! #39: The Loco-MotionStatsPoints: 530 Average: 37.857 Std Dev: 21.461 Charts Australia #1 New Zealand #8 Japan #68 United Kingdom #2 Ireland #1 US #3 US Dance #12 Canada #1 History & Tidbits Kylie's debut single which launched her to superstardom in the music industry is also 4th highest standard deviation of the game. Despite being one of her biggest, best-selling, and most recognizable hits, it did not make the top half of the rankdown. Kylie recorded the song with Mushroom Records after an impromptu performance with her cast mates from Neighbors in 1987. The song thundered out of the gate in Australia, topping the charts for seven weeks. This caught the attention of Stock Aitken Waterman who offered to work with Kylie in London. The rest, they say, is history. The song also did very well in North America. Also check out The Abbey Road Sessions for a version closer to Little Eva's original. Notable Losses: Very polarizing - one Top 10, five Top 20, the rest in the bottom half. Host Opinion Such fun! I vaguely remember hearing her version on TV as a child in the early 90s. It's hard not to sing and dance along, even if the song is pure SAW cheese. Also, I believe Dannii and their brother both appear in the video. Participant RankingsLeo β - 6 π

I love the PWL style remix by Pete Hammond. It totally sounds like a lost song from one of her 80s albums.

Mess that Put Your Hands Up (If You Feel Flop) ended up higher than GBI, or Turn It Into Love.
The trainwreck that is my #70 is still in as well...

#38: Never Too LateStatsPoints: 521 Average: 37.214 Std Dev: 15.328 Charts Australia #14 New Zealand #27 United Kingdom #4 Ireland #1 History & Tidbits Well folks, Enjoy Yourself misses the top half. The third single from the album under performed in Oceania but continued her smashing success in Europe. It's a fun, upbeat number that maintained her optimistic, sunshine public persona. Kylie initial wanted "Enjoy Yourself" as the third single but was overruled by her label. The song was also referenced by David Tennant on Doctor Who. Notable Losses: Eight in the top half once again. Host Opinion A standout on an otherwise cheese, generic album. I have always loved this song and felt she could have maintained her North American success if this had lead the album instead. It's catchy, fun, full of hope w/o (too much) naivety. A win for sure - Ireland knew what was up. Participant RankingsBaby Spice - 12 @phillippe - 22 π

#37: ShockedKylie Minogue f/ Jazzy PStatsPoints: 518 Average: 37.000 Std Dev: 21.119 Charts Australia #7 United Kingdom #6 Ireland #2 History & Tidbits The final single from Rhythm of Love is the first loss from this album in the rankdown. It also has the distinction of its average rank matching its actual rank exactly. This song is an aggressive dance number comparing the feelings of love (lust?) to a jolt of electricity. For the single version and video, the DNA Mix (Yes the people who remixed "Tom's Diner") featuring rapper Jazzy P was used. The video follows a similar concept to "What Do I Have To Do" and the song itself remains a critical favorite and has been included on many hits compilations. Notable Losses: Two top 10s!! Plus four more in the top half Host Opinion Such a fine groove, great to dance to and strut down the runway (aka hallway of your house). Rhythm of Love is the strongest album of her SAW material and this song is no exception. I actually prefer the album version to the DNA Mix, but the crackling energy of this song carries through all versions. Kylie and Deconstruction chose to promote this instead of releasing a fourth single from Kylie Minogue (RIP "Time Will Pass You By" :'( ). But in it's place they had a global hit with Nick Cave. The haunting song had Kylie and Nick trading verses to show the perspective of both sides of the story until the climactic murder in the marsh where the wild roses live. The song won Single of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Release at the 1996 ARIA Awards. Notable Losses: Seven in the top half, but no Top 10s. Host Opinion Haunting, chilling, beautiful. And with that, the bottom half is complete. - The non-album singles from the Roc Nation period, all but one collaboration, and Enjoy Yourself did not survive to make the top half. - However no singles have been lost from Fever, Body Language, Impossible Princess, and Kylie Minogue. - Also Rhythm of Love and Light Years have each only lost one song #JusticeForPleaseStay. - Eight participants have lost at least one top 10, with Leo β having lost the most (4).' - Only one #1 has been lost. Sorry aerodynamite - Glove Slap and Juanca still have their #70s - Every song in the bottom half had at least one ranking in the top half. - There is only a 100 point span between #35 and #51. Coming Attractions - We still have 3 of the lowest standard deviations and two of the highest left - A LOT of Parlophone release will go by the time we reach #30 - Number ones are safe for now - Another tie appears Era Counts before the Top Half: PWL - 06/23 remaining Deconstruction - 08/10 remaining Parlophone - 19/25 remaining Roc Nation - 02/12 remaining {The Bottom Half}36 Where The Wild Roses Grow 37 Shocked 38 Never Too Late 39 The Loco-Motion 40 Put Your Hands Up (If You Feel Love) 41 Turn It Into Love 42 Please Stay 43 Hand On Your Heart 44 What Kind of Fool (Heard All That Before) 45 Word Is Out 46 Skirt 47 All I See 48 Giving You Up 49 Wouldn't Change a Thing 50 Right Here, Right Now 51 Sexercise 52 Higher 53 GBI (German Bold Italic) 54 Black and White 55 Better Than Today 56 Keep On Pumpin' It 57 Flower 58 I Was Gonna Cancel 59 Je Ne Sais Pas Pourquoi 60 Celebration 61 The Other Boys 62 It's No Secret 63 Tears On My Pillow 64 100 Degrees 65 Especially For You 66 If You Were With Me Now 67 Made In Heaven 68 Give Me Just a Little More Time 69 Limpido 70 Beautiful {Your Top Half (35)}I Should Be So Lucky Got To Be Certain Better The Devil You Know Step Back In Time What Do I Have To Do Finer Feelings Confide In Me Put Yourself in my Place Where Is The Feeling? There was murder of pop gems in this reveal :(( Me no like it Only good thing for me was that Shocked finally left. But sad at Put your hands up (I didn't know there was such little love for it here...) and Never too late. Both are fun, melodic dance pop tunes that make you smile and have a good time I knew Loco wasn't gonna be supported much, but I still think it's a classic 80s song that did a good transformation of a classic song without worsening it. Her best cover :) and yes I may be bias because it was such an inescapable hit back home. I remember it being one of the fastest climbing hits of the last gal of the 1990s, with a video that was everywhere and a song that appealed to every generation. Great memories! And it's not that I only like bubbly Kylie. I'm thus also quite sad at Wild πΊ leaving so freaking soon!! Great vocals, interesting instrumentation, duet, etc. Especially sad to see stuff like Too Far or Butterfly or Did it again outranking some of these songs... Oh well. Always interesting to see how others rank our fav songs of course :)

I'm with you on the quality of the video -and the eye candy, including Kylie herself :) I wanted to like the song better as it had this early 90s "techno" type of sound but it never gelled with me I hadn't heard the song before this RD though, and it was an interesting discovery

When I was compiling the results, "The Loco-motion" and "Where the Wild Roses Grow" were the biggest surprises to me for how early they went. The only one I've been sad about so far is " Please Stay" which I've already expressed.
The early Parlophone years are about to take a hit though.....

#35: 2 HeartsStatsPoints: 508 Average: 36.286 Std Dev: 16.923 Charts Australia #1 New Zealand #34 United Kingdom #4 Ireland #12 Canada #60 History & Tidbits "2 Hearts" is the first single Kylie released after recovering from breast cancer, leading off her tenth studio album, X. The song is an electro-rock song originally by Kish Mauve who worked with Kylie to record her version. The song was seen as a stylistic departure for Kylie at the time when she had largely released club-oriented records during her past several album cycles. The video depicts Kylie as a lounge singer, performing the song with a band. Host Opinion Her label(s) were dumb for not trying this in the US. The pop landscape was shifting away from being Urban dominated and this song has enough attitude to at least make some waves. At the very least, they should've have waited 6 months to launch X in North America, given how the internet allowed the album to spread via file sharing. In any case, I always enjoy this one for how sexy/slightly raunchy it sounds. It's so much fun to chant along with.
