I rated this song so high because it was an inspiration for me in 2008 or something... I also wrote my own song inspired by this one.
I don't know if I have this song still somewhere, but I will look for it. Maybe it is rated higher than I planned, but... I loved it

65. "Say You Do" from Janet Jackson (1982) "I'm knee deep // you drive me wild." This funky track was the first song on, and third single from, Janet's debut album. Like the first two singles, this track did well on the R&B charts, reaching #15, and it also did well on the dance charts, reaching #11. Several different versions of the song exist. LP and cassette buyers got the original 5-minute album mix, while the 7-minute remix by Rick Gianatos was included as the main version on CD and, later, digital versions of the album. A 7" edit also exists, but has been long out of print and never made available digitally. She performed this song for the first time since 1983 on the Rock Witchu Tour in 2008, as part of a "Pre- Control medley." Personally, this is one of my favorite pre- Control songs, and I hoped it would be a little higher. @mirza continues to express his love for early, early Janet and .indulgecountry seems to be pretty fond of this track as well. I like the early Janet music a lot and I'm not ashamed Though there isn't a song on this rankdown that I don't like.
I expect the rest of my top 10 to do well since most of those are popular

64. "Young Love" from Janet Jackson (1982) "I traded all my childish treasures // for a burnin' love so true." Here it is, the very first Janet Jackson single. Not career-defining by any means, the single nonetheless gave Janet a promising start, becoming an R&B hit (#6), and selling over 200,000 copies in the US alone. "Young Love" is a light dance song and the lyrics are simple (including lines like "ring around the roses" and "pocket full of posies"). A rare 12" dance mix finally saw the light on the Design of a Decade limited edition bonus disc in 1995. Average: 56.926 Standard Deviation: 12.734

63. "Don't Stand Another Chance" from Dream Street (1984) "Standin' at the edge of time // 'bout to lose my mind." This song, like all the pre- Control singles, didn't stand a(nother) chance to do well in this countdown. However, it did become your highest ranked pre- Control song (with an average less than 0.1 lower than "Young Love"). Released as the lead single from Dream Street, this synth-heavy pop song was produced by her brother Marlon and features background vocals by several of her brothers, including Michael, who can be heard pretty clearly at the end. The song was a top ten hit on the R&B chart, and managed to chart on the Hot 100 Bubbling Under Chart at #4. Janet performed this song, along with "Say You Do" and "Young Love", at the Rock Witchu Tour in 2008. Average: 56.888 Standard Deviation: 13.495

Albums Rankdown: 10. Janet Jackson (1982) A1. "Say You Do" (#65)
A2. "You'll Never Find (A Love Like Mine) A3. "Young Love" (#64) A4. "Love and My Best Friend" (#75) B1. "Don't Mess Up This Good Thing" (#72)
B2. "Forever Yours" B3. "The Magic Is Working" B4. "Come Give Your Love To Me" (#68) Average: 9.857 Standard Deviation: 0.8997Released when she was only 16, Janet's debut album has been described as "post-disco" and "bubblegum soul". Despite being a pleasant listen, the album completely lacks the distinction of her later work, and has a very generic feel to it. Overall, this album seems more well-liked than Dream Street, with only two 11s compared to Dream Street's five, and with three voters (myself included) ranking this album over one of her post- Control albums. 9 - Ginger Spice 9 - God 9 - @antigonerising 10 - weaver 10 - Active Aggressive 11 - bat1990 11 - @phillippe Tagged: Mirago Leigh

62. "Nothing" from Why Did It Get Married Too? (2010) "Don't you tell me 'not right now' // I can't let it go." This 2010 ballad was released as the lead single from the Why Did I Get Married Too? soundtrack, a film by Tyler Perry that also starred Janet. The song managed to do well on the US Hot Adult R&B and UK R&B charts, at #15 and #11, respectively. Lyrically, the song is about trying to make a relationship work, fitting in with the theme of the film. Released a few months after her Number Ones compilation, it would be another five years after this song before Janet would release another single. Personally, I've never enjoyed this one much, as it's rather generic, has clunky lyrics, and lacks a strong hook to make it memorable. Average: 55.778 Standard Deviation: 13.098

Nothing is painful to listen to, it's so bad. And considering how I feel about Dream Street, that's saying a lot. Dream Street was a mess to me and what really made it weird was that it came after the (first) self-titled album. I would have thought her second album would at least be a step up from the first but instead it backslides. I have no idea what they (and by 'they' I guess I just mean Joe) were trying to accomplish there other than not sounding so much like another Jackson 5 scrap bin the way JJ did. But JJ at least had a few cute bops. It's not really a bad album but Thriller was released just two months later. It made J5 look dated, and Janet receiving dated leftovers on top of that looked even worse. It made her musical career seem like a family afterthought to anyone with an outside perspective. Of course now we know it was just Joe being a terrible manager with way too much ego for someone with no A&R skills, general business sense, or forward vision. Praise Jeebus for John McClain, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. And Janet herself for stepping out. Not related much but I had no idea before now that Janet hated working on Fame.

This is precisely what struck me when listening to the songs from it for this rankdown, having never heard them previously. Despite my uncle having Janet's debut on vinyl (I will never forget that iconic cover), I didn't know any songs from it either but, after being forced to listen to songs from both due to this rankdown, her self-titled is WAY stronger than Dream Street, which is probably one of the worst things to happen to music.

Nah, Janet's first two albums are miles better than most of La Toya's discography.

61. "Feel It Boy" (Beenie Man feat. Janet) from Tropical Storm (2002) "Boy, let's just have a party // me and you." Released in between All For You and Damita Jo, Janet was still one of the world's biggest stars during the release of "Feel It Boy", the second single from Beenie Man's Tropical Storm album. The song was produced by The Neptunes and proved to be a modest hit, reaching #28 on the Hot 100. It managed to be a top 10 UK hit, reaching #9 (and #2 on the R&B chart). Janet expressed regret over recording this song after she found out about Beenie Man's homophobic views. Personally, this song has never done much for me. I was a huge Janet fan as a kid, and even then I would skip it whenever I'd play the Now 11 CD. Average: 54.885 Standard Deviation: 15.883

60. "Luv Me, Luv Me" (Shaggy feat. Janet) from How Stella Got Her Groove Back (1998) "Oh, boy, I love you so // Never, ever, ever gonna let you go." This song was originally released on the How Stella Got Her Groove Back soundtrack in 1998, and a re-recorded version was later included on Shaggy's 2001 Hot Shot with Samantha Cole singing Janet's parts from the original. While Janet regretted working with Beenie Man, this time it was Shaggy who regretted working with Janet. He described working with Janet as the worst experience of his career. Janet did not appear in the music video and Virgin Records held her vocals from being used on Shaggy's own album, which was the reasoning for the re-recording. The Samantha Cole version got a full single release in 2001. Average: 54.593 Standard Deviation: 13.998

I must have been in a really generous mood when I gave Feel It Boy a 56. I know damn well I don't like the song that much.

I had to check my rankings after these last couple to make sure there were no errors. I placed both of these too high esp Feel It Boy. Shoulda been like 45.

59. "Call On Me" (Janet feat. Nelly) from 20 Y.O. (2006) "Call on me // whether day or night // I'll never leave"
The lead single from Janet's 9th studio album, 20 Y.O., "Call On Me" reached #25 on the Hot 100, and spent 2 weeks at #1 on the R&B chart. Considering Janet was still facing being blacklisted from MTV (among other networks) as well as public backlash due to the Superbowl incident, the song did fairly well under the circumstances. The music video was one of the most expensive ever made, which is kind of funny given the fact that MTV wouldn't even play it. "Call On Me" is a laid back mid-tempo, and one that I've personally always found really boring. I imagine the main draw of releasing this as a single was the featured artist, who was still relatively popular at the time. I do get my life to the Tony Moran remix, though. Average: 53.519 Standard Deviation: 14.8

Y'all will fucking not ok. The bridge is the best part of that song. I think Hype did a good job directing the video.

Good to see Feel It Boy leaving :) although I'm still waiting for a couple of songs in my bottom 10 to drop. I also heard songs from her first two albums for the first time for this RD, and yeah most of them are Young Love however should've been higher. Same for Call On Me and Luv Me, despite the features and that they weren't as exciting as most of her singles --still, I think there are much worse songs still on.
