You still have provided exactly 0 reasons as to why it is "timeless" and "unforgettable", as well as why it'll "still be fresh". Only time can tell if people in the future will also call it a classic, but for me it FEELS like it will stand the test of time. Why I think it is a potential classic? Because it stands out among the rest, sticks in your brain and is something worth remembering, but those are just my feelings and other people might disagree. But the people commenting proof that atleast it lasted a short year, doesn't mean it will last a decade or more, but it atleast is a good start.

As Gary said, what is memorable to one person could be not memorable to another. I nearly completely forgot songs like Panda, Sorry, One Dance, Never Forget You and Don't Let Me Down (the latter which I loved) but that doesn't mean the majority of the world doesn't still have those songs in their playlists. For example, my brother really liked 7 Years last year. Yesterday, a friend of mine said Castle On The Hill is basically 7 Years 2.0 and my brother had to be reminded what song 7 Years was again, and that song was absolutely huge here. This discussion is pointless as there is never going to be a point reached where there is a definitive answer - which isn't necessarily a bad thing. It is the same as "what counts as a hit". It is all completely subjective. I am not saying people shouldn't discuss it as they can discuss whatever they want, but it does get a little annoying when threads are full of pages and pages of the same discussions over and over that will never reach a conclusion.

DLMD is so not a classic lol Arguably I think from hits of last year. Work & Hold Up are two of the most memorable songs One cause of Rihanna's enunciation becoming amazingly iconic And the other cause of Bey wearing that Sexy yellow dress and wrecking stuff up with a baseball bat with a smile throughout While I do remember both, I doubt either of them will last. The only thing I remember of either song is the annoying chorus of work and the bridge of hold up, which made me wanna bash that bat into her skull to stop that noice. Both things I remember of it aren't positives, it might last, but i doubt it will be remembered in 25 years.

But that's my point though: nobody cares how you feel. I liked Roses and it always stood out for me whenever it was playing. Hell, I liked Sean Kingston's Fire Burning back in the day and could always tell it apart from the other electropop tracks, same thing. How one individual feels has zero relevance on whether something obtains classic status at large. And there still have been zero actual reasons provided for it. This is like when someone tried to delude others into thinking that Cheerleader was a remembered hit. "It feels [for me]" isn't good enough. I feel like songs from the period of the FM radio rise need some kind of asterisk, because they did get radio play and exposure, it just wasn't counted towards the charts.

#6, yes!!!!!
--- www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/7850288/luis-fonsi-daddy-yankee-justin-bieber-despacito-hot-100-imagine-dragons-top-10Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee Rule Hot 100, Imagine Dragons Hit Top 107/3/2017 by Gary Trust "Despacito," feat. Justin Bieber, reigns for an eighth week. Plus, Bieber and Khaled combine for a Hot 100 first in the top three. Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee's "Despacito," featuring Justin Bieber, leads the Billboard Hot 100 chart (dated July 15) for an eighth week. Meanwhile, Imagine Dragons' "Believer" surges 11-6, marking the rock band's third top 10 and first in three-and-a-half years. As we do each Monday, let's run down the top 10 of the Hot 100, which blends all-genre streaming, airplay and sales data. (Even with the July 4 holiday, all charts will update on Billboard.com tomorrow, as they do every Tuesday.) "Despacito" (released on Universal Music Latino / Raymond Braun / SchoolBoy / Def Jam / UMLE / Republic Records) dominates the Digital Song Sales chart for a ninth week, with 136,000 downloads sold (down 1 percent) in the week ending June 29, according to Nielsen Music; the remix with Bieber accounts for 78 percent of the song's sales (essentially even week-over-week and in line with its 80 percent share the three weeks before that). The track tops the Streaming Songs chart for an eighth frame, with 62.6 million U.S. streams (down 6 percent) in the week ending June 29. On Radio Songs, "Despacito" holds at No. 2 with 143 million in all-format airplay audience (up 7 percent) in the week ending July 2. "Despacito" also rules the Hot Latin Songs chart for a 22nd week and the Songs of the Summer chart for a fifth week, having led the latter list each week since it made its annual return just after Memorial Day. DJ Khaled's "I'm the One," featuring Bieber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper and Lil Wayne, keeps at No. 2 on the Hot 100; it debuted atop the May 20-dated chart. It leads Hot Rap Songs for a ninth week and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for a fourth frame. Meanwhile, Khaled adds his second No. 1 on the Billboard 200, as parent album Grateful bows on top with 149,000 equivalent album units. Thanks to "Despacito" and "I'm the One," Bieber has ranked at Nos. 1 and 2 on the Hot 100 simultaneously each of the past three weeks, marking his longest such double-up. He previously held the top two spots on Feb. 6 and 13, 2016, with "Sorry" and "Love Yourself. (Unlike with his two current hits, Bieber was the lead, and only, artist on those two songs, also both No. 1 hits.) Bieber is the first act to link three straight weeks at Nos. 1 and 2 concurrently in more than three years, since Iggy Azalea did so for five frames in June and July 2014. The last male to achieve the feat for at least three weeks before Bieber was Pharrell Williams, for five weeks in 2013. More on Bieber at Nos. 1 and 2 in a moment. First, Khaled continued: "Wild Thoughts," also from Grateful and featuring Rihanna and Bryson Tiller, ascends 4-3 in its second week on the Hot 100. It keeps at No. 2 on Streaming Songs (41.8 million, up 15 percent); dips 2-4 on Digital Song Sales (58,000, down 35 percent); and pushes 23-17 on Radio Songs (61 million, up 48 percent), winning the Hot 100's awards for top streaming and airplay gains. "Thoughts" also takes over atop Hot R&B Songs (2-1), marking Rihanna's fifth leader on the list and the first each for Khaled and Tiller (dating to the chart's 2012 launch). Perhaps foretelling further chart fortunes, "Thoughts" is the first song to debut in the Hot 100's top 10 and then rise in rank in its second week since The Chainsmokers' "Closer," featuring Halsey, which arrived at No. 9 on Aug. 20, 2016, and climbed to No. 6 the following frame, on its way to a 12-week reign at No. 1. "Thoughts" is the first song to debut in the top five and lift in its second week since Eminem's "The Monster," featuring (guess who) Rihanna, which started at No. 3 on Nov. 16, 2013, and rose to No. 2 the next week, before topping the Hot 100 for four weeks. Now, more Khaled and back to Bieber: as Bieber ranks at Nos. 1 and 2 concurrently on the Hot 100 and Khaled holds down Nos. 2 (shared with Bieber) and 3, the pair combines for a first in the history of the chart (which began on Aug. 4, 1958): Never before had two acts each claimed two spots in the top three simultaneously, an achievement this week that reflects not only the success of "I'm the One," but Bieber and Khaled's concurrent high profiles thanks also to "Despacito" and "Thoughts," respectively. Bruno Mars' "That's What I Like" retreats 3-4 on the Hot 100; it topped the May 13-dated chart. Still, it leads Radio Songs for a ninth week (147 million, down 3 percent). Closing out the top five, Ed Sheeran's former 12-week Hot 100 No. 1 "Shape of You" remains at No. 5, while extending its record for the most weeks spent in the top five from a song's debut, having now logged its first 25 weeks on the Hot 100 in the top five, dating to its entrance at No. 1 (Jan. 28). Imagine Dragons fire up their third Hot 100 top 10, as "Believer" bounds 11-6. The group previously reached the region with "Radioactive" (which peaked at No. 3 and set the record for the most weeks totaled on the Hot 100: 87) and "Demons" (No. 6), both in 2013. As parent album Evolve arrives at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, "Believer" charges 6-2 on Digital Song Sales (68,000, up 36 percent), good for the Hot 100's top sales gain; lifts 10-9 on Radio Songs (85 million, up 8 percent); and climbs 20-15 on Streaming Songs (17.9 million, up 15 percent). "Believer" controls the Hot Rock Songs chart for a 17th week. It previously led the Alternative Songs airplay chart for 13 weeks, the longest No. 1 run since Imagine Dragons' own "Radioactive" also ruled for 13 weeks in 2013. Also notably, and more than halfway through 2017, "Believer" is the first rock song (defined as a title that has hit the Hot Rock Songs chart) to reach the Hot 100's top 10 this year, out of 43 total top 10s. (A year ago at this time, four rock songs had hit the Hot 100's top 10, of 38 total top 10s; in 2015, the count was 3 rock titles of 33 top 10s in the same span.) Rounding out the Hot 100's top 10, Kendrick Lamar's "Humble.," which crowned the May 6-dated chart, backtracks 6-7; Post Malone's first Hot 100 top 10, "Congratulations," featuring Quavo, maintains its No. 8 peak; Future's No. 5-peaking "Mask Off" drops 7-9; and The Chainsmokers and Coldplay's No. 3 hit "Something Just Like This" descends 9-10, as The Chainsmokers spend a 61st consecutive week in the Hot 100's top 10, a streak second only to Katy Perry's record 69-week run in 2010-11. The collab also tops the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart for a 14th week. Find out more Hot 100 news in the weekly "Hot 100 Chart Moves" column and by listening (and subscribing) to Billboard's Chart Beat Podcast and Pop Shop Podcast, all posting this week. And again, visit Billboard.com tomorrow (July 4), when all charts, including the Hot 100 in its entirety, will refresh.

Starboy doesn't feel as memorable as Work Literally Work is infamous for it's lyrics sounding like gibberish Easily it has become a big song for Rihanna and probably the most memorable of her 2010s singles with like We Found Love & Diamonds As "memorable" as "Work" by Rihanna is, I think most of this board already forgot one important piece of info on this "memorable" Rihanna song. If it were so memorable, we should probably remember this.... {Spoiler} Drake was on the song too ;)

I should have expanded on that, my bad. Thanks for catching it. They were simply saying that come another summer, everyone would be playing Cheerleader again (this was earlier this year I believe), which for me wasn't a substantive point in the slightest. Others were bringing up a point that since its peak, they hadn't heard it at all, in comparison to the other big hits of that year or other summer hits which still kept popping up, and the person trying otherwise was simply using their own personal opinion as something more substantive than it was.

Re: Cheerleader and its memorability, sometimes hitting big as a "one hit wonder" works in your favor. Just simply because they show up on more lists and get more play on "lost hits" type shows

I predict Despacito will become the longest running #1 of all time. Of course anything can happen, but I think it has even better chance than Uptown Funk.
It's only reached 2/3 of its airplay potential.

It's only reached 2/3 of its airplay potential. 2/3? It has already peaked on Rhythmic and only has a few million to grow on Pop. The only format where it has considerable room is HAC, but it's no guarantee it will even reach Top 5 there.

Happy for The Chainsmokers. Unfortunately, the last week of their incredible run in the top 10.
Wild Thoughts with 41.8 million streams really shocked me, it's much stronger than I thought. It's going #2 in the next 2 weeks.

Glad Believer hit the top 10! Their comeback is pretty strong, last album their best performing song (I Bet My Life) peaked at #28.
Wild Thoughts really has a good potential to be the next #1 with that huge streaming stats. At least having Rihanna there will guarantee a female presence on the Hot 100 in the succeeding months and possible discussion point here on Pulse ;)

What is a good measure of "classic"? Recurrent airplay/streams/sales X years after its peak? Or is it purely subjective?

What is a good measure of "classic"? Recurrent airplay/streams/sales X years after its peak? Or is it purely subjective? There is probably a subjective element to everything, but at the same time there is a lot of data that can help us determine what has stuck around to be a classic; continued streaming, continued airplay, continued sales, use in movies/TV, being sung on shows like Idol and The Voice, etc.
