Hopefully SJLT falls off. Like the track, but I don't want the Chainsmokers to surpass Katy Perry's streak of 69 consecutive weeks inside the top 10. Last year's top 10 is great. Much better than the current one, even if I disliked Panda. Don't Let Me Down was great and so was Needed Me. Still play both from time to time. They're not even close. SJLT would need ten more weeks in the top 10 to beat Katy

Don't Let Me Down of course is already a classic. To whom? The 10 Daya fans? Uhh... pretty much most people who were even listening to music in 2016? When people look back at the 2016 year end list most songs, even big ones like Panda and Work, will be not really remembered by very many people. But when they get to Don't Let Me Down it'll still be fresh in most people's heads because at least right now, even though it isn't on the Hot 100 it still comes off as timeless and unforgettable. Kind of like how even though none of the songs from the 70's are still on the hot 100 we look at songs like Silly Love Songs and Maggie May and Dancing Queen and those songs stand out specially. Lol I could just stare into Kanye's soul forever, thanks for that image <3

You still have provided exactly 0 reasons as to why it is "timeless" and "unforgettable", as well as why it'll "still be fresh".

A song considered being a classic by the general public is different from a song being a personal fave. Subjectivity is key. And Work by Rihanna is not memorable? Please be joking, inverse.

The second line seems to tie in with the first one. Work by Rihanna is memorable to those who declared it a personal fave. "memorable" to you does not mean memorable to all

^ Don't Let Me Down was a huge hit, but there's literally nothing memorable about it. You can at least argue Closer is a classic, since it's lyrics have definitely cemented it's legacy in music.
That gets me thinking actually, The Chainsmokers have had many hits in the past year, but the only one I can think of as memorable is Closer. Everything else they've made is forgettable, Closer seems like the only song to have any passion put into it.

The only one I remember is Roses. Probably because this is the only one I want to remember.

This might be it for TWIL at #1 in radio, sadly. :( There's still Versace on the Floor though, but I'm also holding out hope that Chunky - or even better, Finesse - will be released in the near future.

2016 songs are way too recent for anyone to make a compelling case of them being a "classic".
Hello, Sorry, One Dance, Work, Closer and Shape of You certainly had enough chart success to be considered but save for Hello, I think we need to wait and see.

initial chart success has basically nothing to do with what becomes a classic or does not become a classic.
"Classics" are made from what happens after its chart run, not during. Is a song still resonating with pop culture in some form long after its first release (via TV, films, radio, concerts, sporting events or youtube videos or something else)
Lots of example of "classics" that never charted at all on the Hot 100
Also lots of examples of "classics" that did not come anywhere near #1 that are "classics" and examples of #1 hits of the day that are not

Don't Stop Believin prob the best example of classic that wasn't huge on Hot 100 That is a good one but, the best example of all: Stairway to Heaven And any: pre-digital era album cuts not otherwise released as singles. (90s era radio tracks for example)

But when they get to Don't Let Me Down it'll still be fresh in most people's heads... that's probably because it peaked less than a year ago bud lmao like I love "don't let me down" and all but calling it a classic is quite the reach

DLMD is so not a classic lol Arguably I think from hits of last year. Work & Hold Up are two of the most memorable songs One cause of Rihanna's enunciation becoming amazingly iconic And the other cause of Bey wearing that Sexy yellow dress and wrecking stuff up with a baseball bat with a smile throughout

Are we having that "which recent songs are classics" discussion again?!! Jesus fucking christ I don't know what's worse, this or "what counts as a hit".

Starboy doesn't feel as memorable as Work Literally Work is infamous for it's lyrics sounding like gibberish Easily it has become a big song for Rihanna and probably the most memorable of her 2010s singles with like We Found Love & Diamonds

Don't Let Me Down of course is already a classic. To whom? The 10 Daya fans? To people like me who love that song. It is great and I think it is to early to call it a classic, but it will be in a few years for sure. (I don't like daya and i loath the chainsmokers)
