I have absolutely no idea how Alan Jackson did not win this one, but he should have.

they absolutely did not get this right. Alan Jackson should have definitely won this award. There is no competition here honestly

Joe Nichols should've taken this one. Alan Jackson's treacly overrated mess has never been something I could get behind. The sentiment is nice, but the song? No thanks.

It isn't surprising Alan Jackson lost this one despite the song and that he had other nominations for it because...it's Johnny Cash at the end of his life. Of course he won.

Again, I'm not quite on board with the list of nominees. Mine would've been:
Alan Jackson - "Drive (For Daddy Gene)" Joe Nichols - "The Impossible" Johnny Cash - "The Man Comes Around" Pat Green - "Three Days" Shannon Lawson - "Goodbye on a Bad Day"
I would've went with "Drive" as the winner; I went with Pat Green from the actual nominees.

I will echo your sentiments here. Alan Jackson should have won, but the imminent death of Johnny Cash was the sentimental favorite.
