It's okay to skip on posting an HDD article every now and then... I don't post that many and this is the first in a long while for me It this case it was humorous and well deserved ;) I'm not singling you out, just in general. The article was lukewarm comedy with no new information; a bit of a groaner especially to see in two threads.

So happy to see that closer outlasted the entire chart runs of the 3 ridiculous songs that were #1 after it. All 3 of those songs were better than Closer, even Bad and Boujee. Also, Starboy was great, for the record.

On the topic of Closer, thank goodness this is its' final week. Will not miss this overrated mediocrity of a song. Good riddance.

If we're gonna talk about Closer, might as well just say this; Closer is my favorite song of 2016, no joke.

I feel like the people that s**t on closer the most were the ones blasting it this time last year not me, I never cared for it from the start, and I liked both Don't Let Me Down and Roses, both superior songs by the way.

Look, Closer isn't a terrible song, but it ain't a great song, either, at least not in my opinion. My gripes with this song is that it doesn't sound any different from your generic, run-of-the-mill EDM song. It doesn't really stand out at all. Also, I don't like Drew Taggart's vocals, it's not very catchy (at least not to me), productionwise it sounds too basic, and that drop is a HUGE turnoff for me. The only things I'll give it credit for is that the lyrics are okay and the interplay between two ex-lovers reminiscing and reuniting are interesting. Plus, Halsey actually sounds fine in this song. Otherwise, I never got the appeal of this song. I wouldn't have minded if it have been #1 for a few weeks, but 12 weeks was WAY too much and it long overstayed its' welcome. Sorry, but I will never come around to liking this song, and will never understand the overall appeal of it other than it's another song by The Chainsmokers and they're a big deal at the moment. That's just my honest opinion.

Ouch that drop is really bad. So if it keeps up like this (which is not going to happen, just playing around with an idea) then that would be
August 19: 57000, 13th week at number 1 August 26: 51600, 14th week at number 1 September 2: 46200, 15th ween at number 1 unless Taylor or someone else has a big single at this point September 9: 40800, maybe at number 2?
Of course I don't think it's going to be all the way down to 40800 at September 9, probably more like between 45-50k, but still Mariah's record isn't done yet. And of course if Taylor Swift or maybe Justin Bieber release solo singles those might have potential to stay around 55000 and block Despacito permanently from number 1

Was it more streams or sales that caused the significant loss in points for Despacito?

Whaaaa One More Light didn't even enter in the bottom half? It was about on par with heavy in terms of sales and I heard it used in numerous LP tribute videos. Thought it was a lock to get a decent position but I guess not :(

With the drop Despacito saw this week, I feel much better that it won't break Mariah's record. I'm predicting a tie with Uptown Funk.

Songs outside the Top 10: 16. Liam Payne feat. Quavo – "Strip That Down" (25-16) 18. Niall Horan – "Slow Hands" (19-18) 40. Louis Tomlinson feat. Bebe Rexha & Digital Farm Animals – "Back to You" (NEW) There's other music despite ex one direction members. But as long as we're doing this, here are the peaks of every Hot 100 or Bubbling Under hit by a former One Direction member. Note that this week Louis became the fifth and final member to land his first top 40 hit: 1. Pillowtalk - Zayn 2. I Don't Want to Live Forever - Zayn & Taylor Swift 4. Sign of the Times - Harry Styles 16. Strip that Down - Liam feat. Quavo 18. Slow Hands - Niall 20. This Town - Niall 40. Back to You - Louis feat. Bebe Rexha & Digital Farm Animals 52. Just Hold On - Louis & Steve Aoki 55. Like I Would - Zayn 59. It's You - Zayn 66. Still Got Time - Zayn w/ PartyNextDoor 91. Get Low - Liam w/ Zedd 93. Sweet Creature - Harry 104. Befour - Zayn 108. She - Zayn 113. Wrong - Zayn feat. Kehlani 114. Carolina - Harry 118. Two Ghosts - Harry

But how did The Fighter manage to re-enter this high? Top 20 on radio, I believe still selling well Actually, it re-entered at #21 in Radio Songs. It had dropped out of that chart because BB has this silly rule that when a song goes recurrent it can't chart in Radio Songs. It doesn't have a similar rule for Digital Song Sales nor Streaming Songs.

I didn't know the Radio Songs chart had that rule! I can kind of see why they have that rule even though I would prefer not having it. In this case "The Fighter" was still rising on country radio when it dropped out of the Hot 100, so it's kind of stupid to remove it from Radio Songs as well. And then what's probably going to happen is it's going to disappear next week because now it's in freefall mode on country radio and exit the Hot 100...

The Fighter...
The Fighter - What If I Fall
Billboard - I Wont Let You Fall
As it ended up re entering when it fell.
