^ Dark Horse already had a ton of hype before it was a single, it actually began its chart run before Unconditionally. Also it was actually released as a single when Unconditionally was on the charts for like 4 weeks. So that's kinda just like she abandoned Unconditionally for Dark Horse. Whereas Adele Send My Love wasn't released as a single until When We Were Young was off the charts entirely so that's a more appropriate example IMO I mean, Dark Horse still peaked after Unconditionally. Therefore, it still fits the whole "big hit after an underperforming single" label.

This is the weakest summer for competition ever though. Despacito is competing against Wild Thoughts though which is by Rihanna, the biggest hitmaker of the decade. She hasn't been blocked since Run This Town in 2009, behind IGAF and 2005 behind We Belong Together, both 14 week number 1s. She was blocked last year. More so, outside of the top 2 songs, it doesn't necessarily feel like there is anything else huge at the moment. But I am old now, so I could be out of touch. Lol.
