14 weeks is locked and unless it's airplay just evaporates them 15 looks pretty good "Wild Thoughts" looks like it might leapfrog "Despacito" on airplay soon though...almost undoubtedly by next Monday (when the airplay tracking week begins). Despacito also lost nearly 2 million in AI today. |

I'm surprised they discounted "Wild Thoughts" today. It wasn't getting to #1 this week anyway, and the 'hype' of the discount will have evened out by next week. To me it would have made more sense to discount it next, say, Wednesday when there's less competition and to give it momentum going into the next chart week.

Despacito had 4 versions in the top 100 a few weeks ago. If you combine all versions, Despacito might be bigger than WT. |

^^^ Very true..."Wild Thoughts" still isn't quite doing as well on Youtube as "Despacito", although it is doing better on YT than it is internationally.

I'm really rooting for Despacito to make it to at least 15 weeks but I like that at this point Week #15 is not a sure thing, there will be that much needed chart excitement we haven't had in a while  |

I think the label/artists behind "Despacito" made a strategic mistake in not discounting both versions of their song like the people behind "Wild Thoughts" did, because WT is now getting closer and closer to Despacito with each update and the higher version is still in the dark green. If "Despacito" happens to lose the #1 position on the Hot 100 next week (which is still far from a given at this point), it might all come back to the choice that was made this week as to what to discount or not discount. |

Week 15 is virtually in the bag already since the tracking wrk is already two days in. There's a live appearance on GMA coming this week a well which can only help despacito (probably more adult crowd) as well as potential discount. The streaming number difference is still large enough that no radiolead would keep Despacito from Week #15.
Week 16/17 is tougher though since it's so far away. But the label has NOTHING to lose by going for the record, so expect a few tricks before it's all done. This is the biggest hit the label or Fonsi will ever have.

I think the point is that people shouldn't talk about a song being ahead, taking over, whatever until it actually, you know takes over. "WT" very well may end up pulling ahead of "D" in overall downloads, but why not wait until that actually happens to announce it? |
