I really hope Shania Twain gets announced as a performer for the show. That would just make total sense given who she is and that her comeback album just hit stores a month ago. It would be wonderful to see her up there performing something new again. I recall one of her band members posting on their personal website's "Upcoming Events" section that they're performing. Definitely makes total sense. I think an official confirmation will come soon.

100%. I am so bummed. It would’ve been a great way to promote the album.

I really could see a nomination happening, given her history with the Grammys. That's so far away though, and if not much happens between now and then, her album will be long gone by then.

Damnit. That's such a bummer. I can't believe after her comeback finally happened that she isn't performing on the CMAs. :'(
And I don't think she's getting a Grammy nomination, seeing as the critics weren't particularly kind to Now, so... :/

I’m not a Shania fan, but it’s completely disrespectful & shady she isn’t getting a performance slot, especially when we have to endure terribly awkward crossover “collaborations” while many other deserving artists are left in the cold.
Shania is a Country legend and people young and old love her. She would probably receive a great reception, and she deserves it after being able to comeback despite her health problems.
If a male artist had been her position I doubt they’d be ignored like this.

Is it because Shania Twain does not have a hot single on the chart right now? That would be defeating the purpose of having her at the C.M.A.s. She needs all the promotion she can get.

Is it just me or are they dialing back on the solo performances? I like a good collaboration as much as the next person, but it feels like they're trying to force it. Maren and Kelsea as FV nominees should get solo slots, Reba too, no Shania, no Brad solo, seems like Eric is only part of the ensemble opening? No Blake etc, no Jason I (although he's scheduled to be in Europe).

To be fair P!nk doesn't have a hit country song on the chart either. But at least Shania had not only a #1 country album, but the #1 all genre album. I agree though, she deserves a spot as much, if not more than most others at the show.

Genuinely wouldn't shock me if there was more at play than the CMAs "not offering Shania a spot" or anything. Let's be real here: Shania's team basically botched what could've been a pretty eventful comeback. Granted, she got the #1 on the BB200, but single promo was all over the place, they gave so many important talk shows the cold shoulder, and they relied too much on her name to be a driving force to get people's attention. They neglected to pay much mind to the magnitude of how different of a musical landscape she's releasing in now in comparison to 2002. So again, it wouldn't shock me if her team dropped the ball on this, because I simply cannot the CMAs turning away Shania Twain.

Yeah I think Shania's team is probably responsible. That was my first thought when I saw she hadn't been announced as a performer yet... I was like really? They couldn't even get that part right? I can't imagine the CMAs wouldn't want to have her, because they've (and/or the ACMs) been toting her out as a high-profile presenter for years, so it's not like she's not on good terms with them. Disappointing that her comeback era has had so many missed opportunities.

Historically the nominees in the major categories get a solo spot...who knows anymore... There are things like this that just make me happy to be a country music fan: Best Collaboration Ever

Why Reba Should Win (link) I love this! I'm definitely on the Reba train here. I don't think they'll give it to Carrie again, Miranda has been awarded with this to death, and will likely win again. I'm not sure they are ready to give it someone new (Kelsea or Maren), so give it to Reba. She's 30 years overdue for another win! Why not?! Obviously I know she won't win, but just to be unpredictable, do it!

I agree that the label has botched the Shania comeback from the get-go, but missing out on performing may be a blessing in disguise. She has been lip-syncing so much that you can only assume her vocal struggles are really bothering her at the moment. People have not been kind about the lip syncing from DWTS, and I can only imagine it would have been heightened on the CMAs.
Hopefully she can get some of the strength back before the tour so she isn't lip syncing that.

Any chance Brad and Kane are gonna do a Montgomery Gentry tribute? That's the first thing that came to my mind when I saw they were collaborating

I wonder if somebody will do a tribute to the Gentle Giant. Maybe Alan will.

Sounds like Carrie's doing a tribute of some sorts. Perhaps the Vegas tribute?

As most people predicted, Jason Isbell won't be attending the CMAs this year. Apart from not considering himself a country artist, he told Rolling Stone of his decision to sit out Nashville's CMA Fest last June, "I don't like that kind of music at all. Sometimes I'll hear a song that I really like that's in that world. I like that song 'Girl Crush.' Some of Miranda Lambert's songs are really well-written. [Chris] Stapleton's great. But most of that stuff is just real bad music to me."

Leave it to country music's perpetual ass-backwards-ness to threaten the media with their rights to coverage, should they bring up anything related to the Las Vegas tragedy, guns/gun control, political affiliations, or any topics of the like. Issued to all members of the press today: Additional details

Headline seems kind of click-baity though because he basically said if he didn't have shows in Europe that were in conflict with the show that he'd attend, which is in contrast to his "I'm boycotting this event because country music sux" mantra he's put on previously.

Here are 5 current charting singles that I think might start moving up the charts if they’re performed at the CMA’s this year.
1. “When Someone Stops Loving You”- Little Big Town 2. “The Rest Of Our Life” - Tim McGraw & Faith Hill 3. “Doin’ Fine” - Lauren Alaina 4. “Roots” - Zac Brown Band 5. “Broken Halos” - Chris Stapleton
I haven’t seen the list of performers yet so this list is if they all are performing. One artist of love to see perform is Scotty McCreery. I think a performance of his song “Five More Minutes” would do a lot more for that song.

Don't think ZBB is performing, either, though I might be wrong. If I am, I totally missed their announce.

The only thing that makes the whole Lauren Alaina not performing thing kind of ok, is the fact that artists like Luke Combs and Brett Young are also just presenting, so it doesn't make Lauren Alaina look like the only New Artist nominee not performing. If we are lucky we get a clip of "Doin Fine" during the announcement of the New Artists of the Year award and that can spark a tiny amount of sales in her latest single.

Nothing interesting in today's press conference with Brad & Carrie (26 minutes in total; you can watch it here). A lot of reinforcement by Brad, primarily, that the show is going to focus on unity, and will address the state of the union. Their goal for the show is to bring a balance of humor and awareness. Brad also spoke to his tweet at the CMAs regarding the importance of them rescinding those bogus press guidelines.
