Random Thoughts: - Not surprised by the nominations for 'body like a back road' because love it or hate it its the biggest country song of 2017. Getting nominated is not the issue, winning is though - Garth Brooks is only one right now with good touring numbers, clearly his radio days are over - Here goes the headlines again "Miranda is the most nominated artist" again! (just kidding) - Surprised by Jason Isbell nomination, maybe he might get nominated for best country album at Grammys even though his album is more of rock... - Maddie & Tae should have been replaced with Midland, here they go again nominating people who have done NOTHINGI love Midland, but it would be a bit bizarre to have them nominated for 'Vocal Duo of the Year' when they are a trio

Um, all male musicians of the yr (again) Vocal duo cmon at least nominate pple who have put out music, learn some new names Female, I love Reba but it was a Christian album, again learn some new names Male, Dierks honestly? No luke, Blake, sam, Brett, pardi Eoty again all male (but only case would be ml & her tour numbers are down) no Sam, happy to see Eric Ok who should be in for Duo. The only artist I can see a swap for is Big & Rich and that's it. Luke Bryan had "Fast" and the tale end of "Move" that's it and neither song were that big. I will give you Brett Young to an extent but both Brett Young and Jon Pardi are way too new to be nominated yet for Male Vocalist and they don't have the industry love that Chris Stapleton, Dierks Bentley, and Eric Church have. All Male Musicians? I don't seem to recall their being many women musicians and that award isn't even broadcasted so it's not even that relevant. There is no case for a Female for Entertainer of the year. There just isn't. None of the women in country music did enough to warrant it at all, the closest would be Miranda Lambert or Carrie Underwood but even then there isn't enough. Also the Reba McEntire album was marketed to both country and Christian and sold pretty well from what I recall. So there's plenty of validity to nominating her. High valley? Also duo's exist outside of the major labels. And they release music & play shows. Also just bc something isn't televised doesn't mean it's not relevant. Songwriters and musicians make up a lot of the backboard me of country music. And their are a lot of talented female musicians out there including in country bands (not a ton but they exist) but Nashville/country time & again says you're not wanted here, & this is just another example. Also Pardi had both head & dirt/boots songs peak in the nom yr, Blake had 2 #1's including a 3wkr, & a top 10, luke had 3#1's (hfle went number 1 on July chart), & Sam had the biggest song arguably ever & Brett on s had two huge hits. Dierks had a #1 and a mb #1. Eric had a huge tour, but not much at radio (if you're using that as your metric). Oh and newperson award is bunk, the requirements are bunk, and the apparent rule that we're not allowed to nominate more than one woman for an award is ridiculous. Jason getting a nom for album was a huge & pleasant surprise though. I'm curious if they'll enter it for Grammys as country now (instead of americanna). It's not really country but neither is most of the stuff, including wotw, at least it has a killer fiddle.

Maddie and Tae don't get radio airplay, how did they get nominated? I couldn't tell you what single they released in the last year (without googling it), and I thought that had to factor into nominations.

This is the most uneventful nominations I can remember in a while.
- hate song and single are same - why is dirt on my boots in both? Huge Pardi fan here , but really ? But it doesn't scream song of the year. The lyrics are nothing special. Brett young honestly should have been there , good written song - lady A for album? Really. Lol. Wasn't even there top 3 album they have released IMO. But it has been a weak year for albums , but maybe Luke combs gets in , Aaron Watson , willie Nelson , paisley etc - midland should have been everywhere. But I take it that will be next year if they continue their rise
All in all , not liking these noms at all. All will be forgiven if Eric church gets entertainer. He deserves it

OH MY GOD. JASON ISBELL NOMINATION (sadly they won't give him the win) U never know. Why not.? It's more likely to go to Stapleton or Miranda. Isbell is an indie artist up for that award. He'd need major pull from indie communities to score the win.

Entertainer: Where's Carrie?. She is the dominating female in Country music. Makes no sense. No offense but Stapleton is not an entertainer. Male: only problem here is Dierks. Jon Pardi should've been in his place. Female: last time I checked Reba released a Gospel album. Lauren got robbed. Lauren is having a breakthrough yr, Group: was perfect. Duo: Maddie and Tae are my girls but they did "0". Big & Rich or High Valley should b the fifth nominee. New: if u take away Old Dominion and put in Carly I would ve been happy. Nothin against them I like Old Dominion Song: I'm surprised no "Road Less Traveled" or "Every Little Thing" or "Love Triangle" Single: I thought this category was based on charts, I love "Tin Man" but it's not charting. Once again where's "Road Less Traveled" Album: "WOTW" "Breaker" and "Heart Break" albums are boring IMO. Where's "Love & War", "Welcome Home" Video: "Vice" is lame. So is "Better Man". "Last Time For Everything" and "Legends" and "We Should Be Friends" are better. Vocal Event: Where's "God Mama and Me" instead of "Funny How Time Slips Away"

Carrie took time off... let's call it what it is 2. Agreed 3. Well Reba's album was also promoted to country radio. Let's not forget she has age and sex working against her in terms of radio 4. Pass 5. Agreed 6. I wouldn't nominate Carly though, she doesn't have an album out and well she's been just there for me 7. Agreed 8. I'm more pissed that song & single nominations are identical and Brett Young isn't included 9. Zac Brown have never been favorites @ country awards 10. I'll pass on videos 11. Funny... is more like a sympathy vote cause glen is gone although I won't be surprised if it won!

Initial predictions:
Entertainer of the Year:
Although I'd LOVE to see Keith win this, I think it's between Garth or Luke.
Male Vocalist of the Year:
Thomas Rhett will likely take this one again, but wouldn't be shocked to see Chris win.
Female Vocalist of the Year:
Miranda or Maren - fingers crossed for Maren.
Album of the Year:
Miranda, easily.
Single of the Year:
"Blue Ain't Your Color"
Song of the Year:
"Tin Man"
Vocal Group of the Year:
Little Big Town, but not counting out Lady A as they've had a pretty big year.
Vocal Duo of the Year:
FGL
Music Video of the Year:
"Vice" ... but don't really care about this one.
New Artist of the Year:
Lauren Alaina

No offense to Stapleton or Carrie or any of the other artist nominated but Aldean or FGL should've been nominated Entertainer. Here's my picks
Entertainer : Garth Brooks Female Vocalist : Maren Morris Male Vocalist : Chris Stapleton Vocal Group : Little Big Town Vocal Duo : Brothers Osborne New Artist : Jon Pardi Album : The Weight of These Wings - Miranda Lambert Song : "Better Man" - Little Big Town Single : "Body Like A Back Road" - Sam Hunt
Musical Event & Music Video are usually announced on the pre show so I'm just picking the awards announced on the main show.

I actually wouldn't mind seeing Lady Antebellum win Vocal Group. "Better Man" was a big hit. But man, once that song went recurrent Little Big Town basically fell off the face of the earth. There's just zero buzz with them.
I think Lady Antebellum has a shot. They've had this hyped up Comeback, "You Look Good" has been a high selling song through the entire chart run and their world tour has had a fair amount of buzz as well.

Vocal Event: Where's "God Mama and Me" instead of "Funny How Time Slips Away" I'd rather Carrie get nominated (if ever again) when she has a huge album era with a massive tour and such - getting nominated in an off year like this would just be a waste - because she couldn't possibly win, anyway. The nominees this year are pretty good for EOTY; although I think names like Dierks and FGL should have been included over Stapleton. With that said, a strong case can certainly be made for Stapleton, so I'm not too mad to see his name there, either.

Most generic group of nominations ever. Only one I'll care to watch is for EOTY and if Eric Church doesn't win, they should throw it in the trash. 62 dates, 38-40 songs each night, and I believe every one of them sold out.

-Don't start with the "Where's Carrie?" in EOTY. -Yawn @ how male-centric this show is going to be. -Lol Jason Isbell is probably so conflicted rn. Can't imagine he'll show up to a show he actively slams year in and year out. -Miranda should've been in EOTY, and I hope she takes every trophy she's up for, except... -...I'm lowkey here for "Better Man" winning something. Also curious to see if TS will show now that she's got a major SOTY nomination. I could *honestly* see the CMAs giving her the win if she plans on appearing. -Moderately shocked that Lauren got screwed out of a FVOTY slot, but Reba was pretty active with Back To God, so I get it. Glad she got New Artist, though! I'm honestly praying they'll give her the win just so we can get as many female faces on stage as possible, since everything else about this show is going to be men men men men manly man. -Surprised by Sam Hunt not getting a MVOTY nom. -Simultaneously thrilled for Keith Urban, but also devastated because if he was going to be winning any of his major nominations, it would've (*should've) been last year when he and CU blew the rest of their categories out of the water statistically. Most generic group of nominations ever. Only one I'll care to watch is for EOTY and if Eric Church doesn't win, they should throw it in the trash. 62 dates, 38-40 songs each night, and I believe every one of them sold out. This. He is absolutely, without a doubt the most deserving EOTY nominee this year.

EOTY: Chris could be a serious dark horse here, high selling album + high selling tour, Garth has the best tour #'s of the group. MVOTY: Chris has an album and top tour, Thomas is a dark horse, but more likely next year (& even then I'd be surprised) FVOTY: Miranda has won this many yrs when it wasn't deserved, but this year she clearly deserves it, best selling album, only one to headline a tour all yr (hey, Carrie chose to take the 2nd half of the yr off, no one forced her to). One of these days it would be nice to see someone else win. Duo: This category stinks, FGL prob deserves it on merit...but Brothers Osborne makes way better music Group: LBT had a massive hit, and the Ryman residency. LBT had an almost hit, and a tour. LBT probably takes it. Also duo & group should be combined. AOTY: Miranda or Chris will probably win. Jason Isbell had by far the best album. Chris' is the most country of the bunch. Single/Song: Sam should probably win one...but it's such a bad song. Miranda will win one despite zero radio play. (for me) LBT's is the best combination of hit song, that's actually decent. Video/Event - don't care, when in doubt, assume Miranda wins.
Most hoping for? Jason Isbell & 400 unit gets a performance slot & Amanda Shires rips a killer solo. Also will be interesting to see who is debuting new music. Lot of artists out there who should be looking at dropping new stuff.

Can't post my full thoughts right now, but I'm absolutely thrilled for Reba. She was left out so many times that she deserved a nomination that I have no issues at all with her getting in there this year.

I'll just say I'm hoping for Brothers Osborne to pull off the win again in Duo. It seems everyone forgets they won last year. Hopefully before November I'll drop in my predictions for winners, I just need some time to think about it all.

I actually think this year every category has some uncertainty to it.
Entertainer is so hard to predict. Any one of them could get it.
Male. I think will be Chris Stapleton
Female. Another Tough one because I can see Maren Morris snatching it from Miranda Lambert.
Duo. FGL vs Brothers Osborne. Either one will take it.
Group. I know that many think Little Less Town will take it but I'm not so sure. Lady Antebellum and Old Dominion were no slouches this year.
Song and Single. Eh, give or take. Really don't care honestly
Album. I could see Chris Stapleton, Miranda Lambert and Jason Isbell all splitting votes and that could give the edge to Little Big Town or Lady Antebellum as they could also split votes but both groups would have the edge.
Music Video. Please have Brothers Osborne win that one. That one is amazing.
Musical Event. I really hope "Setting The World On Fire" wins.

Winner Predictions who I want to win.
Entertainer: Keith Urban Male: Thomas Rhett Female: Kelsea Ballerini Group: Zac Brown Band Duo: Brothers Osborne New: Lauren Alaina Song: "Blue Ain't Your Color" by Keith Urban Single "Body Like A Back Road" By Sam Hunt Album "From A Room 1" By Chris Stapleton Video: "Craving You" By Thomas Rhett, Maren Morris Vocal Event "Craving You" By Thomas Rhett, Maren Morris

Reba has no business being nominated for female vocalist. Should have been Lauren Alaina or even Carly Pearce.
Tin Man should not be nominated for Single of the year since it has pretty much bombed on the air. Brett Young - In Case You Didn't Know should have gotten the nomination.
If Maddie & Tae had any self respect they would give their nomination to Big & Rich.
Midland "Drinkin Problem" not being nominated for Song or Single is a travesty.
Garth once again taking a spot away from a more deserving artist in their prime.

Big & Rich are closing in on another top 20 song.

The last single Maddie and Tae released was on May 16, 2016 ("Sierra") which peaked at #47.
It's too bad all these awards shows are political and not based on real talent.

The CMA awards should be publicly ashamed for allowing politics to dictate their awards instead of actual accomplishments.
