Great intention but a bit messy in expression, especially that Iran and Iraq line. And what a stale melody, more than Remember When.

Finally “Anyway” is out. Martina went way too far with the sappy bull crap on that one for me. Always hated it.

Remember When is the most beautiful song ever written. I love it ever since I first heard it and it's among my top 5 all-time favourite songs. Everything about Remember When is absolutely perfect.
Instrumentation - mandoline intro give me the chills - with intro like this you know something major is going to happen. Then in the first verse mandoline and guitar makes perfect duo and the excitement slowly grows through second and third verse when violin becomes more and more prominent until it beomes the leading instrument at the end of the third verse. And just when you think that this song can't get any better the smooth transition happen and pedal steel guitar takes the lead. For me this is the best part of this song and also my all-time favourite instrumental solo. It's just beyond amazing. In the 4th, 5th and 6th verse instrumentation is very similar to that of the first three verses and it calmly leads the song to the end.
Lyrics - are perfect. The fact that Alan wrote this song about his own life makes this lyrics even better. My favourite part is the third verse:
Remember when old ones died and new were born
And life was changed, disassembled, rearranged
We came together, fell apart
And broke each other's hearts

Vocal Performance - Sincerity in his voice makes this song even better. He lived every word that he sings and this is reflected in his voice. It's like he is narrating the story of his life and he does it flawlessly.
Video - Perfect video for a perfect song. The look in his eyes, facial expressions and in his body language are in perfect harmony with sincerity in his voice. The best part of the video is he and his wife dancing during the pedal steel solo. It's just so beautiful.
I still remember the first time I heard this song. I was mostly listening to Dolly Parton back then but this song keeps appearing in the youtube suggestion box. And I was successfully ignoring it for months until I accidentally clicked on it once and fell in love with it immediately. There is just something so calming in this song and it never fails to make me feel good.

I PUT "ANYWAY" AS #1??!?!?!?!?! Lmao I totally forgot which Martina song I had put as my 1, so I just assumed it was "Independence Day"! I guess I wanted to give "Anyway" a boost, because I knew full well it would be the first Martina song to leave?
Anyway, everything about "Anyway" is perfect. It's a shame that the message falls flat for some people. The bridge, "You can pour your soul out singing a song you believe in, that tomorrow they'll forget you ever sang. Sing it anyway..." is definitely in the running for being one of my favorite musical moments of all time. Coming from her at that point in her career, when she was pushing 40 and it was very clear that the industry had started to move on from her in favor of younger talents like Carrie and Taylor, that line struck me as especially poignant. I don't know if that was Martina's intent or not, but that part of the song has always felt like she was speaking directly to herself based on her personal experiences. The fact that she saves the "Sing it anyway" verse for last seems to suggest that it is the most important to her, and the way the production steps back to allow that moment to happen feels so organic and natural, and really makes the whole song imo.

Wish "White Liar" had made it higher than this, but I'm not terribly surprised that it's out. This list *is* really strong, after all.
The steel guitar work on this song is incredible though and I thought her vocal was perfect on it as well. The music video was well-done too and I liked that her dad was in it and the cameo from Jamey Johnson, lol.
