If you WANT to have one of your bottom-5 songs make it all the way to #1, then that is up to you. I still remain unconvinced. I feel like there's a secret Little Big Town hater who isn't me that would tank that song. Usually the secret hater of songs is LBTrocks but even he's on our side with "Better Man"

Have You Forgotten...man, this takes me back to 2003 when I would keep CMT and GAC on my tv all day long and this video being on ALL THE TIME...and I couldn't change the channel fast enough. This song always rubbed me the wrong way and I always found it incredibly obnoxious. I honestly thought I would be alone on that, but seeing it land at #99 makes me happy and shows that I'm not alone in my dislike for this one!

How about you not tank a song just because you know other people love it. Your rankdown should be based on YOUR opinion of songs. I honestly think if someone is purposely tanking songs to spoil the fun of others, they should be removed from said rankdown.

Your rankdown and what you post should be determined on what you think you should do. If it's by opinion fine. There's nothing wrong with a little strategy. But we can agree to disagree right?

This isnβt Survivor, Big Brother, or (insert any reality show here), but Iβd certainly vote anyone off the Pulse Island for purposefully tanking songs. You should be ranking a song based on your opinion of it. Period.

Also if you are subtly suggesting me to be banned because of how I do rankdowns than honestly I don't think I ever want to talk to you ever on Pulse. No offense but that'd be kind of hurtful to try and ban someone on Pulse for how they do rankdowns.

Your rankdown and what you post should be determined on what you think you should do. If it's by opinion fine. There's nothing wrong with a little strategy. But we can agree to disagree right? No, unfortunately we can't. Rankdowns are not a strategy game. The whole point of a rankdown is to see which songs from any given list are most or least popular according to a small sample group of Pulse participants. Trying to introduce an element of uncertainty in a rankdown by tanking songs just because everyone else loves them is generally discouraged, because it messes up the statistical validity of the results, which makes the entire rankdown basically a waste of time for all the people who legitimately wanted to see how their preferences panned out when compiled together. If you rank "A Better Man" low because you genuinely don't like it, then nobody will be able to fairly criticize you for your ranking because it reflects how you actually feel about the song, which is the same way that everybody else formulated their lists. But if you rank it in the bottom 5 just because it is overrated, when in reality you only consider it to be like the 30th worst song in the list, then people have every right to be mad. Take LBTrocks for example. He very frequently has results that differ from the majority of participants! But that has basically become a running joke at this point, because he always ranks the songs according to personal preference rather than using any sort of strategy, just like everybody else. Anyway, nobody is saying you should be banned for using strategy in rankdowns. All tim is saying is that he would find it incredibly annoying if a song that literally everybody else loves got tanked just because somebody wanted to troll the results. And you may not think of it as trolling, but when you brag about how low you ranked/are going to rank a song that everybody else loves, that is what it comes across as. Which makes people mad. Which leads to unpleasant attention coming your way. One final word to the wise: Nobody knows what your personal preferences are!!! If you would just put "Better Man" in your bottom 5, and then don't call attention to it at all, people would probably not give you too bad of a time about it other than the usual "OMG how could you" when the reveal happens. But when you boast about how you are going to put it there just to tank its chances of doing well, it makes it sound premeditated and causes people to question your motives.

How about you not tank a song just because you know other people love it. Your rankdown should be based on YOUR opinion of songs. I honestly think if someone is purposely tanking songs to spoil the fun of others, they should be removed from said rankdown. Exactly. I'm tanking a song that's well-liked in the 2009 Active rankdown, but I'm not tanking it because it's popular. I'm tanking it because I've grown to loathe the song recently. There's a massive difference between tanking a song because you don't like it and tanking a song because you want to troll people and see how others react to your tanking. One is based on personal preference. The other is just being a punk for the sake of being a punk. (I would spoiler this post, but it's not like anyone here is going to participate in that rankdown, anyway. :kii: )

All I'm gonna say was this stuff I posted earlier was a joke. Let's move on. I'm so over this shit and I don't need another rankdown turned into a constant back and forth with me.
Is that OK with everyone?

This is me jumping into troubled waters... I'm not an aficionado of rankdowns, but I have to agree with bboat11. Purposefully tanking a song loved by Pulse just for the sake of it is pretty darn evil imo, unless you really don't like it. Here's a very recent example: the '98 rankdown was a little challenging for me to do and I kinda feel guilty about having the Sara Evans song miss the top 10 in the end, despite my list more than likely having nothing to do with it missing the top 10; it probably just wasn't meant to be. In my defense, "Cryin' Game" was a first-time listen for me and I probably didn't allow it to grow on me; also, it only peaked in the mid-50s back then and I didn't anticipate it almost making it to the top 10 so I may have made myself feel guilty for absolutely nothing (#meinanutshell). I have always been honest with myself in these rankdowns and plan on continuing to do so. I would not recommend anyone play Devil's Advocate just for the sake of disturbing the flow of this forum and riling up every rankdown participant and sending them into a potential downward spiral (given that they're mental cases like me :kii: - if you're not a mental case, congrats; show me your ways please). Now can we please send prayers and positive thoughts KanenrΓ‘:ke's way? Although never with a family member, I have been in spats with co-workers before and it definitely takes a toll on you. I apologize for coming across as insensitive when I'm actually the opposite (wow, what a hypocrite, huh?). I'm gonna take some Advil and go about my business now...

Ya know I don't mind if this goes Dixie Chicks rankdown Part 2. This rankdown is so huge, that we should take our time with this one.

I used to love this song but it has not aged well, this should have been lower than "Have You Forgotten" I guess for me the difference is that this song (however much I can't stand TK since then) was just a reflection of the anger in the U.S. at the time (similar to how Alan Jackson's song was the shock/sadness). "Have You Forgotten," on the other hand, felt like propaganda to remind people we should stand behind the trumped-up war at the time. I guess it's a subtle difference and I'm sure others would argue that the TK song feels like propaganda, too, but that's just how I feel about it.

Do a lot of people hate songs that are patriotic or mention war here on Pulse? This song has a special place in my heart as my parents would play it growing up as this was one of their favorite country songs outright.

"8th of November" is not a song I outright dislike. It's just that I don't like it as much as I feel like like I should. For starters, John and Kenny are not one of those duos who sound good together no matter what they are singing, a-la Maddie & Tae or Brooks & Dunn (when they actually sang together). Truthfully they sound SO annoying together on that song... It is a song that has potential to be much better if somebody else sang it. Plus overplay helped kill it for me as well. "Dirt Road Anthem" Lol I actually enjoy this song to an extent, hence my #70 ranking in such a strong field of songs, but the fact that anyone is losing top 20s here is laughable. Not surprised at all to see this leave now. "Courtesy Of The Red White and Blue" Yeah, that one hurt... Lol I know that this song is trash, but LBTrocks and I are going to grow up and live happy in the land of the free together, because that's what Toby told us to do, and I can totally understand why he loves this one. I actually think the lyrics are really good, and the attitude of the song gives it a level of quirky charm.

How is Dirt Road Anthem out this early? Probably because of how Pulse feels about Jason Aldean, although it could be the song itself...

1. Courtesy of the RWB is one of Toby's worst. His angry overly-patriotic american thing just irks me so wrong. 2. Dirt Road Anthem is a jam and I am not ashamed about it. Love it to death 3. Thank GOD 8th of Nov is out so soon. Gives me hope that it'll tank in 2006 rankdown too. Half the time I don't mind B&R's vocals and the other half it drives me absolutely insane. 8th falls in the latter. Also, I do really hate most war songs. There's a way to do them well, but most people fail at that in my opinion. I don't really know why war songs (and movies too) do nothing for me - probably partially because I don't have any immediate family or close friends that are in the armed forces so it's hard for me to relate to or understand the importance of (go ahead and crucify me for being like Ten Pound Hammer here) and partially because I'm so anti-war, anti-gun, anti-violence that I just don't like thinking about it. The only war movie I liked was that one with Andrew Garfield where he enlisted but refused to use a gun (partly because he refused to use a gun and still made an impact saving lives in war and partly because its a historical movie that shined a light on a forgotten historical figure [my FAVE type of movie]).
Anyway, I'm okay with these results. Assuming we have to wait 4 more weeks for the next set of 4 though, then 4 more weeks for the next 5, 4 more weeks for the next 6, and the pattern will continue until like 2020 when we finally finish this. :)

You explained it in such a respectful and intricate way. Where as Ten Pound Hammer, would probably same something stupid, mention Sturgill Simpson, and then bash a female artist all in one. I'll probably crucify you later in this rankdown though.

"Courtesy of The Red, White and Blue" is awesome, but I knew it was disliked. I love everything about it though. INCLUDING the lyrics.
Love Big & Rich but "8th of November" is awful, lol. Melodic clunker.
The chorus of "Dirt Road Anthem" is melodic heaven. The verse... is not. lol. But I don't hate the verse by any means, I like some of it. But the chorus is where it's at.
I'm not expecting to do well in this rankdown at all. Many of the songs I detest with every fiber of my being are favorites of those participating.

Haven't really lost anything of value yet. "Dirt Road Anthem" can go get shot into the sun, and "8th of November" isn't one of B&R's best.

I love "8th of November." It's melody isn't super strong but the fact it's so detailed and based on an actual event is awesome. The story of Niles Harris (the man in the song), is true and the backstory always fascinated me. I had a cousin in the marines and my grandfather fought in World War II. I don't like all war/military songs but this one I enjoyed a lot.
