While mental health is nothing to make fun of, she's also a millennial teenager lol My cousin's teenage kids shift moods faster than Ariana releases singles and they're generally very obnoxious and over the top and I've noticed that with quite a few other kids of their age. No teenager is a millennial. The youngest millennials are entering their mid 20s. Billie is a part of Gen Z. That being said, though, your point kinda sorta stands. Teens of any generation are moody af, but Gen Z is seeing alarmingly high rates of mental health issues too. (As are millennials, but Gen Z seem to be even worse.)

(As are millennials, but Gen Z seem to be even worse.) High rates of diagnoses. Which doesn't mean previous generations didnt have the same issues in their teens and it just wasn't recognized as a mental health issue. Teenagers today really aren't any different than the past, they just talk about shit differently.

I am here thanks to Jennie from Blackpink recommending her music and I am sold. I like her sound (reminds me of Lorde) a lot. Was disappointed to find out she doesn't have an album out yet but it's all good because there's a lot of songs available on YouTube.

The first half of this album is waaaaay better cus this drags a bit towards the end. They should've changed the tracklisting up a little.
But holy fuck "bad guy" instantly blew me away, that song is amazing. Other highlights are "all good girls go to hell", "my strange addiction" and "ilomilo". "8" is the weakest song imo.
Generally this is produced extremely well all around the board, but that was to be expected tbh. Super happy with this album!

bury a friend when the party's over bad guy you should see me in a crown my strange addiction ilomilo
My expectation might've been too high. Not feeling all the ballads except for WTPO. Maybe they'll grow on me. "bad guy" sounds like the smash she needs.

Listened to the album and although it did have some nice bits I feel like too much of it is just faux-deep lyrics, weak vocals and even weaker melodies being masked by heavy (and fascinating) production. Her whole image really isn't for me either. However, her talent is undeniable and she's at least trying to create something compelling with her music and not playing it safe. That's really cool. I hear people saying Billie could be the next big thing lead into the 2020s and that'd be great, especially if she can influence popular music in the coming decade to go into a slightly more "interesting" direction, if you get what I mean. Can't wait to see what the future holds for her.

This is really good especially for a debut album for a 17 years old breakthrough pop star. I echo the sentiment that she's far from realizing her full potential and there's so much more than she can achieve in the coming years. While this isn't Pure Heroine by any means but I'm stanning for her.

Bad guy should have been the first single. Need to give it a proper listen, but the album is good not great. Shows a lot of potential
EDIT
OK got through it. Bury a friend was a weird first single choice (I guess it was technically first?) Considering some of the more immediate and pop oriented songs on the album. There are a few real standouts and and a fair amount of filler. I think that's a function on her not being fully developed as an artist yet to be able to produce a cohesive album. I get why they wanted to get an album out fast, but I think another EP would have let her home what works into a complete body of work a little later.
The ballads are flat. She doesn't do them well. It's the same lilting, depression slow jam multiple times and all bunched together. When the party's over is best of them for sure. I mean, one of them is literally a suicide note. I get what she's going for with it but the production closing with police sirens kind of seems flat-footed to me.
My strange addiction would have benefited from fewer Office spoken word samples. It's jarring and not in a good way. It's close to ruining what would have been an otherwise great song. Ilomilo is good And melodically gives some 90s house vibes.
I stand by my initial assessment that this is a good not great album that veers close to being overly self important, but I hope it does well for her so she keeps putting material out.

bad guy - 8/10 - This is nice. Even though it's short, wish it was shorter. The end of the song doesn't do it for me. xanny - 4/10 - it's just eh. you should see me in a crown - 7/10 - Good, but old news. This song does the billie vibe better than most of the album all the good girls go to hell - 7/10 - I like this a lot, minus the last 10 seconds. wish you were gay - 3/10 - This song is just plain boring. when the party's over - 5/10 - This song suffers from Billie's inability to sing. Her slow stuff is kinda boring. 8 - 1/10 - The beginning sucks, the middle sucks, the entire song sucks. my strange addiction - 9/10 - I love this song. Except for the talking. bury a friend - 7/10 - I like this song, wish there was more singing in it though. ilomilo - 5/10 - Relies on gimmicks. I get why people like it though. listen before i go - 2/10 - you can't do ballads if you can't sing i love you - 3/10 - this this song is literally come out and play goodbye - 2/10 - wow, second half of this album sucks.

The ballads could've been better aside from WTPO. The rest was absolutely amazing. Bad Guy and My Strange Addiction are my personal favorites. I hope Bad Guy does well in the charts.

I've finally given her a chance because I thought she looked annoying. A decently solid debut. Love CROWN. Agree that ballads ain't for her. Stylistically, its a bit all over the place. I don't like the WISH YOU WERE GAY song...it feels like something katy perry would have done ten years ago and doesn't fit in w the vibe of the album.

1. !!!!!!! - 10/10 2. bad guy - 7/10 3. xanny - 8.5/10 4. you should see me in a crown - 9/10 5. all the good girls go the hell - 10/10 6. wish you were gay - 10/10 7. when the party's over - 7/10 8. 8 - 7.5/10 9. my strange addiction - 8.5/10 10. bury a friend - 9/10 11. ilomilo - 7/10 12. listen before i go - 9/10 13. i love you - 10/10 14. goodbye - 5/10
The album was a little disappointing imo, I thought all these songs could've been 10/10 but they weren't all that good. And don't really understand the hype for bad guy, it isn't the best song off the album, i love you and wish you were gay are the best songs off the album.

Is this a joke? A 14 second track of talking scores a 10/10 with you?

Highlights on first listen for me: bad guy my strange addiction ilomilo i love you goodbye
I do think they could have cut out xanny, 8, and listen before i go and have had a pretty damn stellar 10 track album (11 with the intro). Those three are fine, but kind of drag the album's vibe down a little bit. Honestly, swap those three out with WHEN I WAS OLDER, bitches broken hearts, and lovely, and you've got one hell of an album. But who knows maybe they will eventually grow on me. hostage and party favor eventually did so anything's possible, lol.
The absolute high point of the album for me was the guitar in i love you. Hauntingly gorgeous! The harmonies in goodbye are a close second, though. Though my favorite track overall after the first listen is still either you should see me in a crown or bury a friend. Out of the newbies, it's a toss up between my strange addiction and ilomilo.
