The article says that if the Wild Thoughts discount craze were to continue another week and they again gained 15% and Despacito continues its slow erosion (-5%), Wild Thoughts would be #1 next week Not likely to happen though as Despacito is only blocked from #1 now by the solar eclipse and Wild Thoughts sits at #9 If anything it'll get 16 weeks and gain in digital sales back up to around 100,000 downloads. Unless Taylor releases something that will destroy in almost all categories. It's a total eclipse of Despacito!

The only thing standing in the way of Despacito breaking the record is a new Taylor Swift single being released this Friday.

Watch, Despacito will be the #1 song of the entire decade, I'm calling it now.

No, Despacito will have the #1 for the decade locked, the longer it stays at #1. If OSD can make it to #1 after just 16 weeks at #1, and less than 30 weeks in the Hot 100, then I think Despacito will have this locked, because of it's insane longevity.

But OSD wasn't competing against other huge hits with great longevity like Uptown Funk, Closer and maaaaaybe Shape of You. Uptown Funk can easily make up the difference if Despacito falls faster after it leaves #1.
Most of the 10+ weeks at #1 hits of the 90s didn't have great longevity because of the way charts worked back then.
Granted, if, as someone pointed in another thread, Despacito's chart run after leaving number 1 is something like 1-2-2-2-2-2-3-3-3-3-3-3-5 etc... then it's probably got it on lock (until the next monster 10+ weeks-at-number-one hit which is probably coming soon at the rate the charts are moving).

Despacito also had more weeks at #1, and even with it's declining airplay (Finally falling to #5) it could have insane longevity and still remain in the top 10 long after it lost the #1 spot.

Maybe it's too early to ask this, but how is Despacito looking like to place on all Time chart? I think it's bigger than Uptown Funk which is top 10 there (unknown which spot it is yet)

So question, if there anything that can knock shape of you out before 33? It needs to be passed by two songs. I know we decided Friends wont 1 debut but can it debut with at least 25000 points? And is there anything else that can beat it?

I'm actually pulling for Despacito to hit 17 weeks (17 is my favorite number)

Awful top 10. Jesus...Billboard needs to ELIMINATE streaming so my pop divas can break through.

Awful top 10. Jesus...Billboard needs to ELIMINATE streaming so my pop divas can break through. for starters, this is biased. Second, they're not going to eliminate streaming just to appease to you. It's how most people consume music nowadays. It's here to stay whether you guys like it or not.

Streaming, (#2 on streaming) sales and airplay are all gaining, plus it went to #3 on Billboard. I guess I'm with @walker9 on this, and saying it has the potential to dethrone Despacito. But the only reason TEOTH is #1, is only because of the eclipse hype, and nothing else. I predict it will lose the top spot on iTunes by the time when I wake up .

It would be hilarious if TEOTH dethroned Despacito. It obviously won't. But it'd be funny.

Well, yeah, I just wanted to see your reaction. But, either way, it does have a shot. Relative difference in points between them?

So they basically need to put WT back on Hot Tracks for it to have a chance next week... However, as the article says, it's unlikely that the surge would be as strong since the song is already discounted.
But then with Taylor likely coming...
Oh well. Guess it may not be meant to be.

And is there anything else that can beat it? Bank Account: stalled this week, but it's far from peaking on sales and radio. Body Like A Back Road: falling slowly, like SOY, and is getting closer each week, maybe next week it can surpass Shape. Strip That Down: I don't know much about its numbers, but since it's #13 and is gaining on radio, there is a chance it reaches top 10 as soon as next week. Friends: I need to take a closer look at the numbers, but I feel like it's another 2U. I'd say there's a 50-60% chance that SOY breaks the record.

lol Why does everyone want Despacito to fail? Because it is an extremely generic and bland song with disgusting lyrics. In other words, it's shit.
