I fucking love that this holds records for countless good things and now bad things. This will forever remain one of my favorite chart anomalies. Right up there with the return of Forget You, the longevity of Sail, and the whole Stupid Girls/Who Knew/U + Ur Hand/Who Knew again situation.

I will go on record and say that while I think the song is enjoyable, I think it doesn't execute what it sets out to do as perfectly as it thinks it does.
The chorus just isn't an ear worm. It just doesn't stick, I think. It needed more of a groovy funk, if they weren't going for a melody.

If I remember right, Pillowtalk has the biggest drop from #1 on the Hot 100 (#1 to #7), correct? I wonder when a song will debut at #1 only to fall out of the top 10 the week after

I wonder when a song will debut at #1 only to fall out of the top 10 the week after Apparently Billy Preston's "Nothing from Nothing" actually owns that feet. 1 to 15. Same as Dionne Warwicke and The Spinners' "Then Came You". Credit: Wikipedia and somebody using the mag as a source.

Falls to #10 this week. HIAM: 01-06-08-10-10-11-12-16-30-43-75-59-66-76-88-100 LWYMMD: 01-01-01-03-03-05-04-10BTW: 01-01-01-01-01-01-04-05-05-13-15-16-18-19-24-42-37-49-56-57 It's somewhere between BTW and HIAM so far in terms of H100 success. I mean album release can hold the song's chart position and let it stuck at 20-30's on Hot 100 and 20's iTunes for a while. My prediction is 23 weeks for LWYMMD. Ready For It is gonna be bigger though.

Billboard: Taylor breaks Kanyeβs record on Radio SongsPOP: [..] Meanwhile, last week's new Pop Songs No. 1, Taylor Swift's "Look What You Made Me Do," tumbles to No. 7, marking the steepest fall from the summit in the chart's history. It surpasses the 1-6 plunge of Shaggy's "Angel," featuring Rayvon (May 5, 2001). [..] OVERALL: [..] it concurrently plunges from No. 5 (its peak) to No. 20 on Radio Songs, where it's likewise the biggest fall from the top five since the chart began in 1990; it passes the 5-16 descent of Kanye West's "Gold Digger," featuring Jamie Foxx (Dec. 24, 2005). Ready For It is gonna be bigger though. Youtube, decent-ish sales and the album release will probably allow it to go recurrent instead of being "purged". (Whoa, that HIAM run was terrible. No wonder TTWE feels like the bigger hit even if it didn't reach #1)

Just a reminder that this song is actually terrible and the only reason why it did so well to start was because it was Taylors first song of this new era/after a break

Also just a reminder that no matter how you try and use its chart-run as an example, Born This Way was still a massive hit and has stayed more culturally relevant than a lot of Pop songs get to.

The song is still considered a hit.It may have underperformed compared to "Shake It Off" but that promotion and vital videos. This one only had ABC promo and the music video. Taylor will be fine in the long run. Taylor is a album artist. "reputation" will sell at least 800k on it's first week.

This also had a radio deal and Taylor's first single attached to it and an airing of the video during the VMAs. And all that happened within 3 days if I'm not mistaken. (Including the ABC promo). That is not a normal occurrence. Songs don't premiere on ABC commercials especially from an artist like Taylor. That would cost them LOADS OF MONEY!!! There is some kind of deal with ABC somewhere, don't they air the AMAs? Maybe she is contractually obligated to them for appearances: GMA, AMAs, Jimmy Kimmell, a special over thanksgiving?

Just a reminder that this song is actually terrible and the only reason why it did so well to start was because it was Taylors first song of this new era/after a break Just a reminder that that is completely subjective. I think the song is great, and seeing how well it sold up until its radio collapse, many others did too. You can push the βthis is only doing well because of Taylorβ all you want but you have no way to prove it. I think that Shape Of You is one of the worst songs of the year, and I can say βit was only big because of Ed Sheeranβ all day but that doesnβt make it true. It might be doing really bad in callouts but that hasnβt stopped other songs before and although not proven it is getting more and more obvious the label is playing a part in this huge collapse on radio

I've been here longer than you, honey.
And when did I post that? You omitted the dates.
You also left out all the posts you made about how its ascent meant it wouldn't be reaching number one.

I think the song is great, and seeing how well it sold up until its radio collapse, many others did too. You can push the βthis is only doing well because of Taylorβ all you want but you have no way to prove it. Except for its first week, which pretty much does prove that it did well because of the artist. Not necessarily because of Taylor specifically, but because the of the artist. A song that does well in the long run (a la Shape Of You) did well because it held up beyond who the artist was. A song that doesn't have longevity (a la Look What You Made Me Do) performed well on hype but wasn't super well liked. You're right that how one thinks of the song is subjective. And yes, the song was a hit. Is anyone even denying that?
