No way they'll do a tester, that could potentially kill all hype What? Lol why would it kill hype? There will surely be another single out before the album drops. Blank Space wasn't released until after the album

Just give us a #1 hit Taylor, we're tired of Despacito at #1. Are we? No we're not. I'd love to see a Spanish language song shatter the all-time Hot 100 record during the first few months of a presidency that chanted "build that wall! keep them out!" than have an influential self-proclaimed feminist who stays silent when women's rights are actually in jeopardy.

Will be interesting to see if she can prevent Despacito's 17th week. She'll have 1 day of sales, streaming and 3 (or 4?) days of airplay count for this week's Billboard Hot 100 by releasing tomorrow.

Slow your roll. Some of us are just ready to bring in some quality. You're acting like Natalia Lafourcade or Javiera Mena is atop this perch.

Yeah...Deathpacito is a shit song and is only #1 because of a feature by a White guy who somehow thought it was appropriate to replace Spanish words in the chorus with "burrito" and "Dorito" so...it can go IMMEDIATELY. Never should have happened to begin with, tbh. Anyway, I am REALLY excited for the Snake's song!

I can't think of anything about "Shake It Off" that would make it of higher quality than "Despacito"--and I love both songs. And, for the billionth time, quality has nothing to do with commercial success, and having a Spanish song dominate 2017 isn't without meaning or value; and these Latin artists shouldn't be held to a higher standard than the bland-ass songs sent to #1 by white artists (including the white artist who was likely needed to get this song to #1, or the bland-ass song by black artists that currently holds the record in question).

Assuming Taylor's single is higher than Bad Blood-level (and that's a low bar to clear), I'm pretty confident it'll be better than Despacito, yes.

I didn't assume that--I only took issue with name-dropping Latin artists who are of enough quality to be worthy of the top spot, according to you, which is never how it works; and Latin artists are as entitled to send something bland (or just something you don't like) to the top as anyone else. And whether or not it's better than Despacito also doesn't have anything to do with it getting to #1. It could be trash and accumulate all the points it needs to do so; it could be brilliant and just miss.

Tomorrow night wouldn't imply any earlier than 8PM (and may very well be the usual ~11PM that most songs appear on iTunes), so little - if any - sales & streaming activity would count toward this week's chart.

The very post you're responding to makes it pretty clear that I know popularity has nothing to do with my personal taste. Also never said anything about what success songs were entitled to based on who made them. I'm allowed to have a rooting interest in this chart battle, right? No skin off my back if the results I want don't happen. For the record, I brought up Natalia and Javiera because they're from Latin America, while Fonsi and Daddy Yankee are from Puerto Rico. It's a coincidence that they're both pretty good. I know the language of the song is the primary cultural association (even though "this is how we do it down in Puerto Rico" is a line in the song), but I found that next to the 'wall' comment a bit incongruous, is all.

Her official site is literally blank. There is no release section. Really?! They must've taken it down!! Someone is getting fired. :kii: I bet it was On purpose and they come to Pulse to watch the reactions. I wonder if Pulse has ever played a role in a release strategy, even just to measure our responses? Lmao

Ridiculous that politics is brought into chart placement. And FYI - Puerto Ricans are American citizens - so "Despacito's" chart placement or potential record-setting doesn't make any sort of statement, unless this is in reference to Bieber's foreign-born status.
Back to Taylor - I'm assuming she will release digital and streaming for single simultaneously - it will be interesting to watch how 3 years will impact sales and what % she gains from streaming. I have Spotify Premium, so I know what I'm doing. As a former CD/digital album heavy purchaser, I've fond very little is worth buying now - except for rare expanded/deluxe reissues, which end up there as well, or out-of-print singles/albums (secondary market). I can't imagine purchasing anything new.

Is there anything in Spotify's catalog that's Premium-only? Meaning, not even Unlimited subscribers could listen to it there? I hope not.

Oh yes we are. I'm spanish, here that song because a hit three months before and i could not take it anymore. And thank god i liked the song because if it were one of those cases of a song that i hate becoming such monster hit at this time i would have a lot of homicidal thoughts. But i'm happy for Luis Fonsi who is a really nice guy

So happy the day is here. Taylor releasing and putting a swift stop to Despacito's reign. As a Latin American, it's fucking embarrassing that a song I'd liken to La Macarena is dominating the Hot 100 and for this long as well. Then to add insult to injury, you have Justin fucking Bieber on the remix. Give me Taylor. NOW.

Ugh, I'm no huge fan of Taylor's but let's not lump her in with 45. At least she shows some level of decorum.
This should be interesting! Taylor and Mariah herself vying to keep her record alive.
I have no clue what Taylor's new sound will be -- I'd say I hope it's something she can pull off, but interestingly I don't find that she pulls off a lot of her music and other people seem to love it -- so, lol. I guess pop-country is where I place her .... which is what all the pop girls are doing these days, I guess?
