All the pop girls are doing pop country? Katy isn't doing pop-country though?

The only thing close to pop country that any of the pop girls have done recently is "Malibu" as far as I can remember (and then Kesha had that collaboration with Dolly Parton on her album).
Not to mention 1989 was nowhere near country or pop country it was just straight up pop.

We should all be #teamBodak anyway
Regardless, I am highly interested in hearing this, and the album in general...I want to see if she actually 'owns' her actions or if she yet again finds a way to paint herself as the innocent one. Best case scenario is that the album is Blank Space on a broader level - well written, well-produced, and with a touch of cheeky self-deprecation while not directly addressing the situation. If she tries to address things directly I think it will backfire on her.
As for lead single I'm hoping the title Paradise was correct b/c that would more likely point to a song that's not about her personal drama at all, just something solidly poppy.

LOL, I guess I didn't mean pop-country. I was thinking I could see Taylor going the route of Miley/Gaga/Kesha's latest -- which I think of more acoustic/country-ish... but she's pretty much done that already? So -- who knows, lol.

The song is supposedly over 8 minutes long and dark.

Always thought she was a Republican based on that.

I can't imagine her team or herself thinking an 8-minute song will work on radio, unless hit singles aren't what they're after this time around which I doubt is the case.

Doesn't every single song on the radio have a "radio edit"? Why is this concerning people? lol

Doesn't every single song on the radio have a "radio edit"? Why is this concerning people? lol Because if the song is indeed over 8 minutes long, it is almost impossible to cut it down to 4 minutes without losing essential elements to the song.

Mirrors by Justin Timberlake was 8 minutes long, I'm sure they found a way to edit the song to fit for radio.

At this point in time, radio will pretty much play anything she puts out, especially if it's the lead single for a new album. In this day in age it would be really exciting for someone to actually try and release a song that is more than 3 or 4 minutes long and radio actually plays it without a radio edit. Unless she puts out something extremely explicit or very non-traditional I can't see them not playing it.
Imagine if it's something epic like "Stairway to Heaven" or "Blue Monday" which had no official radio edit.

Everyone else's audience updates would shrink. She could literally sabotage the whole industry!

nice. i hope it's something as great as last kiss if it's really 8 minutes long, which in turn will also beat last kiss for her longest song too

Mirrors by Justin Timberlake was 8 minutes long, I'm sure they found a way to edit the song to fit for radio. The thing with "Mirrors" is that the outro is really long, so without the outro the song would be around 5 minutes. If Taylor's song is indeed 8 minutes and has a really long intro or outro then there would be no problem making a radio edit, but it's anything like "Enchanted" (but even that is less than 6 minutes long) then there'll be nowhere really to cut.

From "Mirrors", I even heard an edit where they cut out most of the first chorus but kept whatever was after the second verse because some was repeated.

When the Beatles released "Hey Jude" in 1968, it was literally a 7 minute, 11 second, long single. They were told it was too long and radio would never play it without an edit (yes, radio edits do go as far back as the 60's), but John supposedly said something like "It's the Beatles new single, radio damn well will play it!" So they refused to edit it down and John was right, radio did play "Hey Jude," and pretty much played all 7 minutes and counting of it. So as you can see, there's really nothing new under the sun.

But just once I would like to see an artist who isn't Taylor actually do something like this on the heels of a massive album era with a long, controversial, unconventional single and it completely backfires and radio won't play it.

An 8 minute song is intriguing. That alone tells me (if true, let's pretend it is for argument's sake) that it's likely not a standard pop song (unless it's unnecessarily dragged out a la every Justin Timberlake song this decade). Even with a radio edit, many people will opt for the album version for first listen (and subsequent listens if that's what gets uploaded to Vevo/YouTube/streaming sites), so that lowers the number of possible listens by a large amount.
I'd be down with Taylor shifting more toward a "pretentious" (not my word) angle with the new album - depending on how it's done of course. She certainly could surprise!

Anyone know where this 8 minute song rumor is originating? Is it a rumor or it confirmed?

And Katy bulling her, the media bullying her, just the Taylor witch hunt in general Sounds like something Trump would say lmao How? I'm not even that big of a fan, but she gets it rougher than a lot. 1. Katy did bully her. Taylor wrote about an experience that did happen (surprises suprise, both sides had different recollections of events), and it was speculated to be Katy. Katy is the one that came swinging, name dropping and bashing in interviews and released that tacky song. 2. She can't date without being painted as a desperate-boy-crazy-psycho. 3. The lawsuit about the grabbing (which she didn't start), and countless other things (like not speaking out to the general public about Kesha, and choosing to write a cheque instead..like something that would actually help her in her court case, and not just tweeting)...the list goes on. Let's call a spade and correct me on any fallacies. She does get ragged on way harder than her counterparts.

I hope the lead isn't anything focused on the Kimye/Katy/Calvin drama. This is going to be the first proper TS song we have since '1989'' (IDWLF was made for a soundtrack) and I want it to be something about life or how she's back stronger than ever.
I really don't think the single would be 8:47 but Taylor just never disappoints so I believe in her.
