Truly truly truly dislike Taylor... but heard this at the club tonight and on my uber back home and this won me over completely.

This is like those fake radio updates someone was posting in the Katy Perry single thread... but they're real. As for comments like "She just makes good pop music and has a huge fanbase. Her team takes care of the rest." - how do you know? Is there insight into Taylor and her labels business you have that we don't, or is this an assumption? In pop music, this girl is in a league of her own - regardless of whether or not it's Taylor or her team driving it. Comparing her or her career to Madonna is a waste of time (and I love Madonna) - there is no other Madonna. Beyonce comparisons are baseless as well, they're just completely different artists.

Taylor did some talk show performances when 1989 was first coming out, but she didn't do anything after that. She didn't really do awards show performances either - just the Grammys (and only in 2016) and the surprise/unadvertised collaborations (Madonna at the iHearts, Nicki at the VMAs).
Some initially thought she might have scaled back the schedule due to her mom's cancer, but by the end of the era it sure seemed like there was some brand strategy involved: positioning the idea of a Taylor performance as something special.
It'll be interesting to see if she parts with that. I kind of hope she doesn't. It's not that I don't want to see her perform, but I think all big-name artists can benefit from being more selective about when/where they perform.

Taylor also performed Blank Space at the AMAs 2014 I still consider that part of the album launch (it was about a month from release) - but I did say talk show performances in my post - so fair enough. Basically, it was just noteworthy that she didn't do any talk show promo once Style, Bad Blood, Wildest Dreams, Out Of The Woods and New Romantics were live at radio. She also didn't do typical performances at the 2015 Billboards, 2015 VMAs, 2015 AMAs, etc.

She also did Shake It Off at the VMAs in 2014 That's well before the album came out? When we got into 2015 and 2016, she wasn't doing the conventional promo we associate with big pop acts. There was no random Thursday night Fallon appearance. No TODAY Show or Good Morning America Summer Concert Series. No appearance as the musical guest on SNL. She premiered videos for her singles - but didn't actually perform the songs - at the 2015 BBMAs, VMAs and NYRE. And so my question is - does that change for this album cycle? First, what kind of promo will she do in the lead-up to Reputation? And then will she do promo throughout the era or kind of let the songs live or die on their own?

If she really is not doing performances, then I am sad we will never see her attempt to do this one live lol. Well, until a concert of course.

She's seemingly trying to pull a Beyoncé with this album. If she's truly pulling back from interviews and performances, that's exactly what Bey has done with her past two albums. And in this same period, she's somewhat cemented herself as a music icon, certain legend-to-be, and mythical, untouchable goddess. It's a smart play. It's easier to create your own narrative, image, and perception by carefully controlling what is given. Limited social media interaction. Limited interviews. Limited performance spots, but when they come they're high profile, extravagant, and memorable. It's not a bad game plan.

Although, it's exactly counter to how Taylor Swift built up such a loyal fan base in the first place - being so accessible. For that reason alone, I'm not sure I love this move from her, but we'll see. At the very least I hope it's just for this era.

The track length for the opener on the album (3:28) is now showing on iTunes, which means we're probably getting the first promotional single in the next week or two.

Wow, that big a hit on the 8th day. When was the last time a big song like LWYMMD had that big a drop on the 8th day, Hello?

I need to go back and find the 8th day effect for 'Born This Way' but 'Hello' was an anomaly in every sense - its airplay rise was meteoric to the point where it even defied a conventional 8th day loss. spaceykSVP1999 I don't know what you think you're crowing about; not only was this entirely expected but it's also most likely just a one day thing and it'll resume spin gains as early as tomorrow. Swish swish back over to the Katy Perry thread before you embarrass yourself any further.
