I feel like this finally is the era of the "backlash" though. She was riding high up until 1989. But this is the era that some people are like "eh". The streaming hasn't been as good as it should've been, and I don't forsee the song going #1 on Pop. Also doesn't help that it's cannibalizing spins with Ready For It. Even in a depressed digital climate, 350k was weak for this as the debut. The album has not even come out yet... ...Ready For It? literally debuted at number 4 while Welcome to New York hit number 48, and both were the first promo singles. I think it's too early to tell.

I'll beg to differ because she currently has the biggest first week sales opening since Justin Timberlake's "Can't Stop the Feeling!". So I think what you meant to say was in spite of the digital climate, she has the biggest first week sales

I guess if you are American you have to choose the side - has she done it yet? If you donΒ΄t choose, then you will lose fans from post sides, if you choose side, then you will probably lose a lot from one side. I guess itΒ΄s the best time for foreign acts in American charts, because America is very much divided and will be for a very long time. Maybe some Russian singer should start conquering American market. Is it the right time?

I canβt with this thread today. Weβre seriously over here trying to call this era a flop? Or even compare it to Witness?
Riiiigghtttt.....
Because sheβs dropped one single thatβs #1 multiple weeks, a promo single that has never gone for radio ads that is #5, no promo, strongest opening week in forever for LWYMMD and still killing it in streaming, ITunes, and YouTube. For the record, for a promo single, RFI has FAR exceeded any label or consumer expectations (and still rising).
We can debate allllll day about polarizing image or single selections, and any project thatβs this high caliber will be picked to death, but to seriously make claims of a failed era with 2 Top 5 positions on Billboard MIGHT be the funniest thing Iβve read on here in years.
βHaters gonna hateβ is right.
Edit: also, does the entire chart seem depressed across the board today? Everybody seems way down.
Edit 2: ah, IHeartRadio shoved everything down on the chart

also, does the entire chart seem depressed across the board today? Everybody seems way down. It's that way because everyone is in a moody, depressed feel ever since 2016. I can't believe I have to be the one to say this, but I want my Black Eyed Peas electro-clash and club bangers from the early 2010s back on the charts. I don't want this moody, depressed, low, down tempo trap and rap dominating the charts anymore. God, I hope 2018 is more brighter than this non-sense.

No this isn't a flop yet, but it's not looking great for the overall success of the album. Not unlike Drake's current era, I don't know how much More Life Taylor's album has in it.

For an artist who's last album went 6x platinum and had five #1 pop radio hits, her lead stalling at #5 is not good.

It's not like she doesn't have another song rapidly climbing the charts right now. She's fine.
This situation isn't ideal, but as I've said numerous times before labels need to be more careful with the release of these promo singles or do away with them all together. They can completely ruin the intended rollout.

PoP radio isn't the only thing determining a hit single. Plus it's top 5 there. lol This is selling and streaming very well. Plus has an overall 100+ million AI.
This thread is funny and will be funny to see all the back tracking if it picks back up again. The backtracking is already beginning... Everyone knows what certain posters want/mean but throw in a word that can be taken back because it's vague. lol. I love it!!!! Thank you Pulse.
