Any thoughts on doing In Memoriam/Living Legend themed rankdowns for those artists that have passed on and/or have left their mark on country music? This of course is in light of the passing of Kenny Rogers, but could apply to such artists as Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, and Dolly Parton for example. Whereas most artist rankdowns consist of the entire catalog, these would be smaller and likely include anywheres from 20-30 of their biggest hits (obviously depending on said artist).
Anyways, this is just me thinking out loud but I think there’s more than a handful of us that would at least show up to support these (including myself).

I know a Dolly Parton rankdown was suggested awhile ago, and I would love to participate sooner rather than later. I had forgotten there was some discussion about doing one for Dolly before and I know we'd all show up to support that one! In regards to doing rankdowns for the icons of country such as the late Kenny Rogers, I wouldn't be expecting a huge turnout by any means but I think there might be just enough interest to at least make it interesting. There's no way we could do an artist rankdown, though, of their entire discography like we normally do. But, I think something in the realm of 25-30 songs would be just about right. I'm still sorting out all the details and ideas in my head at the moment (I do have lots more free time on my hands all of a suddeen!), but just in case I am coming up with a list of songs that might encompass one for Kenny Rogers. I'll see where it goes from there. And I can't wait to revisit the Shania Twain albums...looking forward to that one taylor is terrified!

Ok, if there's a small amount of interest for a condensed Kenny Rogers rankdown I'll move forward with it. Below you'll find the 25 songs that would likely be included which also has three from his early days with First Edition. Let me know what y'all think one way or the other! {Kenny Rogers Songs}1. Just Dropped In (as Kenny Rogers & The First Edition) 2. Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love to Town (as Kenny Rogers & The First Edition) 3. Reuben James (as Kenny Rogers & The First Edition) 4. Love Lifted Me 5. Lucille 6. Daytime Friends 7. Sweet Music Man 8. Love or Something Like It 9. The Gambler 10. She Believes in Me 11. You Decorated My Life 12. Coward of the County 13. Lady 14. Through the Years 15. Love Will Turn You Around 16. We’ve Got Tonight (with Sheena Easton) 17. Islands in the Stream (with Dolly Parton) 18. Crazy 19. (Something Inside) So Strong or Planet Texas 20. The Greatest 21. Buy Me a Rose 22. He Will, She Knows 23. There You Go Again 24. I Can’t Unlove You 25. You Can’t Make Old Friends (with Dolly Parton)

Yeah tim , I definitely would be open to you honoring Kenny with a rankdown, and honestly I think the condensed format works fine for him. He's one of those artists with such a big history that I never know where to even start, so having somebody force me to listen to his biggest and best without all the distraction of having to learn the less noteworthy songs too is exactly the best way for me to actually learn more about him... Lol! Same with other legends like Don Williams, Conway, Waylon, Merle, etc. I've always wanted to know more about them, but truly don't know where to begin!

That Kenny list looks perfect tim. I know about half of the songs on there (the biggest hits and the newest stuff), and this will be a great way to get introduced to some of his other material.

I'd love to host a Dolly Parton rankdown at some point. I know BackwoodsBarbie put it out there that she would host one but so far I haven't see anything come of that.

I am absolutely here for a Dolly rankdown no matter who hosts it! I find it ludicrous that she wasn't the FIRST ever country rankdown tbh.
If no one has any objections, I'd love to host a Loretta Lynn rankdown at some point? Or maybe Tammy Wynette? or maybe both lol

And she has had it on the queue for way more than 6 months, so it's basically up for grabs!! A LOT of rankdowns are about to be either leaving the queue or placed up for grabs, by the way. I just need to get myself organized and do some research to make sure I don't get rid of any that haven't been there for 6 months yet.

Well I guess your (or pulse) definition of queue is different than mine - I've been waiting for my rankdown to come at the top of list for more than a year now and it never get there while other hosts keep opening rankdowns that were never even at the queue at first place and that just lead to the point where there is way too many rankdowns open at once (at least for me because I'm not super familiar with most of the songs and it takes me quite some time to listen each album/singles and to rank them so I can't even participate in every rankdown I would like to). Well anyway If .indulgecountry or anyone want's to open Dolly's rankdown they are free to do so.

All this time you've really been waiting to come to the front of the list, and just thought that everybody was being a dick and not following the rules?!? I wish I'd known that, I could have clarified it for you I'm sorry. This queue is not a waiting-in-line list. I felt like that was too rigid of a structure for a forum that is essentially just here for fun. People can open rankdowns whenever they like. The queue is basically just a place for me to keep track of who has claimed certain ideas, so that people don't get their ideas stolen. (Which is why I am starting to instate a 6-month maximum for the queue, so people don't hog a bunch of rankdown ideas and then never host them.) But once it's on the queue, you can open it whenever you like!

Y'all may have notice in the OP that I plan on launching the 1991 Country rankdown soon. Unfortunately, I've been busier than anticipated with me starting to work remotely this week and attempting to catch up on other rankdowns that have been open for quite a few weeks (did you know that time flies quicker when you get older?). Now, don't let this fool you. I don't have the songlist for '91 finalized yet, but I do plan on having a maximum of 120 songs (after I trim nearly a couple of dozen over the next few days). I will also extend the Tanya Tucker rankdown by a few weeks as I haven't made a serious dent on my own list. :(

We've done rankdowns for 2004-2006...but the songs were usually anything top 30-35 those years. How about a rankdown of let's say 2-3 years and we rank 50-75 of the deep-cut, lower charting singles only? To highlight some great gems and have new people here discover them.

That song does have a live version that I was initially going to include so we'll see. Regardless I'd have this due in June. 2000 Country - this will be due in June or July The Wilkinsons Series - this won't begin until I finish two of my current series (LAW, PT, PL) 2001 Country (gonna shoot for the fall for this one) Rebecca Lynn Howard Albums (was talking about this in the Record Labels and Artists Rosters thread and would love to do these) had talked with Cody Wants Out... about doing a Collin Raye series so if he is still okay with that I'd plan to do it around when I start the Wilkinsons series. A couple other artist I am interested in doing series for way after I finish a lot of these are Jessica Andrews, Lila McCann, Autumn Hill, Blackhawk, Hal Ketchum, Mark Wills, and Randy Houser. Not claiming any of these currently but they are ones I'd like to see happen. Also I plan to do more Songwriter based rankdowns as there are many incredible songwriters that deserve to get spotlighted. WHAT'S LEFT OF THE CURRENT ALBUM SERIES: Patty Loveless' The Trouble with the Truth & Long Stretch of Lonesome Patty Loveless' Strong Heart & Mountain Soul Patty Loveless' On Your Way Home & Dreaming My Dreams Patty Loveless' Sleepless Nights & Mountain Soul II Patty Loveless Extras Patty Loveless Album Tracks Patty Loveless #1's Pam Tillis' It's All Relative & Rhinestoned Pam Tillis & Lorrie Morgan duo albums Pam Tillis' Looking For A Feeling (don't want to wait 6 months as I'd like to get this album done before the singles, album tracks, and #1's rankdowns) Pam Tillis Extras Pam Tillis Album Tracks Pam Tillis Singles Pam Tillis #1's Lee Ann Womack's The Way I'm Livin' & The Lonesome, The Lonely, and the Gone Lee Ann Womack's Extras Lee Ann Womack's Album Tracks Lee Ann Womack's #1's

I want to get y’all’s thoughts on something. Over in the pop world, there is a relatively new rankdown series (I think they’ve done it like 5 months now?) where they rank noteworthy new releases from each month. It’s usually about 15 songs or so, and happens every month to honor the new releases that have happened in the previous month.
I am considering doing something similar for the country genre. Is that something people would participate in?? I know I personally tend to get so buried in older music for rankdowns that I always forget to keep up with newer music, so this could be a great way to help people like me at least keep a taste of what is going on in the world 😂

I’m usually quite bad about keeping up with new releases and I’ve tried taking full advantage of this quarantine downtime to start doing better on that. Once all of this is over I’ll for sure need something to keep that motivation going, so count me in!

This is going to be the next rankdown I'm hosting. 2012 will be saved until later this year or early next year. I'm taking the lower-charting singles that missed out being included in the 2004-2005-2006 rankdowns and doing a 100-110 song rankdown of those songs. Right now the highest charting song on Mediabase that would be included is one that peaked at #26 ("Bring Me Down" by Miranda Lambert), to give everyone an idea. This is a nice change up from the usual year-end or artist rankdowns and even though it will take more listening time, this will be a lot of fun. :)
