People only know the name of the song (very few people know it's Los Del Rio), as they will know about Despacito. I was thinking about that FOR 10 years from now, people will credit only Justin on Despacito, just like most of them do now for One Sweet Day. Those who do that on purpose might. This is Pulse - where all music but that from female pop stars is basically ignored - so yeah Those who truly know the music, also are well of aware of who sang it Agree on that! But average listeners don't care who sing that and with who, so i was refering to them.

Speculation I suppose on what "average" means.
The categories of people(maybe missing one):
-Those who don't know the song at all, will know nothing about the title, artist or co-artists or cowriters. -Those who are slightly familiar with the song and only heard it in passing on the radio once, may not even know who any of the singers are or be familiar with the title. -Those who have an interest in the song will probably know who sang it too -Then there are those who, like I said, will on purpose, be centrally focused on female pop stars -then there are those who just don't care

Who wants to listen to the song on Youtube, must know a song or a singer (and mostly, people only know one of those two).

People saying the same things repeatedly, yet no one has answered my 2 questions: 1. Do you think the actions of celebrities and the way society reacts affects our culture, or no? 2. Why do you think the victims of Bill Cosby's sexual assaults didn't come forward for so long? He was never convicted for that was he? And if he was the woman should have left his house when asked, she didn't. Bottom line, the woman had a history of making up threats to her that were proven later to be false. Chris Brown has done enough sh*t that you can leave that gun incident out of it. There's beating Rihanna, but there is also Karrueche Tran also accusing him of abuse, Brown breaking a window at GMA, his incident with Frank Ocean (threatened to shoot Ocean and called him "f*g"), perhaps shoving a woman to the ground in a club, allegations he attacked a former manager and threatened his female tour manager, his club incident with Drake, and getting kicked out of rehab. I'm pretty sure there are more I've forgotten, including several other incidents involving female and phones that I don't know enough details about.

Obviously Rihanna fans and Chris Brown haters are more traumatized and hurt than Rihanna herself Who has obviously forgiven him. Rihanna is one person. He has a history of violence and threats. What will happen if or when he beats another woman? Oh, but Rihanna "forgave" him therefore everyone else should too. Thank you. This is all quite maddening. We know that part of the cycle of abuse is for the abuser to ask for forgiveness, and for the victim to give it...and then for abuse to happen again. One of the main issues with abuse is that the victims don't see a way out of it, and 'bystanders' saying things like "Well she forgave him so let's move on" only perpetuates that cycle. Until society takes a stand to condemn abuse, to back and protect victims, etc we aren't going to make any progress in this area.

I think Starships lost the record to Shake It Off which got 24 weeks in the top 10. They were in different chart years however If I remember right, the week it was going to/week before it was going to break the record, it feel to #11 :(

I'm late to the discussion and I don't think the answer is nearly as clear cut as you guys say -- honestly I'm not even sure where I stand on the issue at hand. However, while I won't dislike Chris Brown's music sheerly on principle of being by a woman beater, the fact that not only has he never really apologized and shown any remorse about it, but also that his music paints him out to be a player who steals your girl, fucks her, then throws her to the wolves is not a remotely flattering look on the guy. John Lennon wasn't the best person, but not only has his music incredibly well crafted and influential, he didn't draw attention to his issues with women in his songs and didn't come across like a massive douche whenever he addressed it. Chris Brown is someone who beat a girl, didn't seem very sorry about it, and continues to do shitty things to others, while making generic R&B bragging about his prowess amongst women. If he released something that I thought was genuinely good and showed some insight and self awareness then I would likely be able to look past what he did, but I just can't buy songs about him being a smoove ladies man after we found out her clearly isn't one.
And no, I don't think Rihanna forgiving him means we should inheritedly forgive him either. Maybe if again, he had actually shown remorse and appears to have actually learned from his mistakes, but he has done none of that and frankly, Rihanna taking him back that quickly and even making songs with him where he brags about "blowing her candles out" is a really bad precident. Now granted, there may have been stuff that went on behind closed doors (doubtful, since we would likely know about them if they happened, but possible), and Rihanna doesn't have to denounce men or anything either, but it's a bit troubling that she doesn't see the writing on the wall of Chris clearly being an asshole who might beat someone else or even her at any given moment.

I completely agree with you, but in Rihanna's defense she has moved on from him. They broke up again sometime in 2013 and I definitely think she's completely over him as of now.

A lot of Women who are not abused or raped by celebrities, but by a non -celebrity, also don't come forward or report their attacker either, if you're trying to imply that it was just because Bill Cosby is a celebrity. BTW I still watch the Cosby show on occasion. I watch it for entertainment purposes. Not to mention Phylica, Malcolm, Lisa, Keshia, Sabrina etc haven't done anything to warrant them no longer making money for a show they worked just as hard on. Just like the engineers, producers, songwriters, and other music staff shouldn't lose out just because of the actions of one person. But hey if taking bread out of the producers, song writers' kids' mouths just to spite one person makes you feel good about yourself and , then do you.

The top two on iTunes and Spotify are identical. Has that ever happened before?
