It gained on digital sales because of it being discounted for a short time, and because Kendrick performed at the VMAs.

Am I the only one upset that Taylor released a song this weak and stopped Despacito from breaking the record it was clearly going to? I'm upset too. A chance for chart history and Taylor ruins it with a song that's mediocre at best. Couldn't she have waited one more week? Nah! They should feel lucky she didn't release 1 week earlier.

Well for chart geeks and Mariah fans for sure but the song will likely be remembered by other people not because of that. Maybe it will be remembered for the music video, the "Old Taylor Swift is dead" lyric or simply the publicity and polarizing reactions it generated Yeah, i know. But i was talking about chart geeks. Like we always mention "Black Beatles" and "See You Again" we will mention Taylor's song, because number of weeks at number 1 are one of the most imporant record on Billboard. And maybe i'm wrong, but it's too big coincidence to release "Look What You Made Me Do" that day and that week. Only she knows the truth. No coincidence. It was the week Katy Perry was supposed to release the Swish Swish video and host the VMAs.

Shawn Mendes is still holding the top spot of airplay. Attention might not beat it this week.

I don't know much about deleted singles, but it's my understanding that Mariah was far from the only one who did this. Since we're on this topic, what does it mean to "delete" a single anyway? Does it mean the label stops manufacturing any new copies, or do they pull all copies from store shelves, making it completely unavailable for sale? As has been said, other artists definitely had limited/deleted singles. Sony in particular was big on this, so another example of a deleted single is "Because You Loved Me." And, yes, a 'deleted' single means they stop pressing new copies to send to stores despite there being demand. A 'limited' single is where they only make so many copies to start with, and they don't plan to make more. I know I'll Be There are Heartbreaker were both deleted singles for Mariah as well. I think Can't Let Go was as well, because Emotions was not matching the sales of her debut. This is probably why CLG stalled at #2. It's also the reason why many of Mariah singles chart runs are short - the deleted singles fell off the chart rather quickly.

Ah how does that work? I'm a noob big single releases usually have a 7 day airplay deal where they play it near hourly and the 8th dat leads to a big decrease

Ah how does that work? I'm a noob Using simple numbers, let's say a song starts out with these airplay numbers: Day 1: 1000 Day 2: 200 Day 3: 300 Day 4: 400 Day 5: 500 Day 6: 600 Day 7: 700 Day 8: 800 On the 7th day, airplay was 3700. Because the weekly chart only accounts for 7 days at a time, when the 8th day comes into play, the first day no longer counts so now the total airplay is 3500. Its 8th day effect is -200.

Ah that makes sense! So, big releases are expected to bomb on the 8th but return to normal afterwards?

Ah that makes sense! So, big releases are expected to bomb on the 8th but return to normal afterwards? Yeah, there's no actual loss of airplay. The important number to look at is the day to day number. That tells the more accurate story (though you need to watch for trends. It isn't that uncommon for a song to have fewer plays one day than the day before but when there's a few in a row, then you know it has probably peaked).

^Even more important than the day to day radio audience is the particular one that ranges from Monday to Sunday, which is Billboard's tracking week for radio that gets taken into account for the weekly Radio Songs and the Hot 100 charts.
That said, I think Look What You Made Me Do could recover enough today and tomorrow to be in the #10-13 range in Radio Songs next week.

I think it might actually crack the top 10 since she was gaining 10m before the 8th day. Let's see how this plays out.

Is is a guarantee that Taylor will be #1 this week or is there still a chance either Despacito stays a 17th week or Bodak Yellow hits #1 (the former probably)

I'm a bit annoyed that both Niall Horan and Liam Payne with his lame Timberlake rip-off have scored far bigger radio hits than Harry Styles' epic Sign Of The Times. A clear chart injustice.

What's the deal with this new Swift song? Does it have a radio deal that could eat into "LWYMMD" airplay?

Is there information on how many people actively stream each week versus listening to the radio and downloading music?

While I prefer Styles' song over the others so far, it's interesting than Liam's is a ripoff of JT while Harry's isn't considered as such.

Somehow I feel Taylor's team is smart to get LMYMMD one week before putting ...Ready for it. As at least it get LMYMMD to number 1 worldwide first, if Ready for it has enough point to be no. 1 too (which I doubt it will happen in Billboard Hot 100, but can be for other part of the world.) it will have 2 no. 1 very quickly.
