Rapper Lil Uzi Vert bows at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with his debut studio album, Luv Is Rage 2, starting with 135,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Aug. 31, according to Nielsen Music. The album was released on Aug. 25 through Generation Now/Atlantic Records, and follows two earlier charting efforts for the artist.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new Sept. 16-dated chart (where Luv Is Rage 2 debuts at No. 1) will be posted in full on Billboard's websites on Wednesday (Sept. 6) -- one day later than usual, due to the U.S. Labor Day holiday on Sept. 4.

Of Luv Is Rage 2’s total debut units, 28,000 are in traditional album sales. The album is powered mostly by SEA units: 100,000 -- translating to 150.6 million on-demand audio streams of the tracks on the album. The rest of the album’s starting figure is 7,000 TEA units.

Luv Is Rage 2’s streaming sum of 100,000 SEA units is the largest for an album in nearly four months (since Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN. tallied 105,000 units in its third chart week; May 20) and the third-largest streaming debut of 2017 (behind Drake’s More Life, with 257,000 SEA units on the April 8 chart, and DAMN.’s debut of 227,000 SEA units on the May 6 chart).

Luv is Rage 2 features the top 10-charting Billboard Hot 100 hit “XO TOUR Llif3,” which peaked at No. 7 in June.

At No. 2 on the new Billboard 200, another rapper debuts, as XXXTentacion debuts with his first full-length studio effort 17. It arrives with 87,000 units. Of that sum, 18,000 are in traditional album sales, 67,000 are in SEA units and 3,000 are in TEA units. Earlier in 2017, he notched a pair of Hot 100 hits with “Look at Me!” (peaking at No. 34) and “Roll In Peace” (Kodak Black featuring XXXTentacion, No. 53).

XXXTentacion charted one previous set on the Billboard 200 with the Revenge mixtape, hitting No. 44 in June.

Rock band Queens of the Stone Age earns its fifth top 40-charting album as Villains starts at No. 3 with 73,000 units (69,000 in traditional album sales). The group previously hit the top 10 with its last album, …Like Clockwork (No. 1 in 2013) and 2005’s Lullabies to Paralyze (No. 5).

Villains is also the best selling album of the week, as it starts at No. 1 on the Top Album Sales chart.

Pop vocal group Fifth Harmony claims its fourth top 10 effort on the Billboard 200, as its new self-titled album bows at No. 4 with 46,000 units (32,000 in traditional album sales). The girl group’s last album, 7/27, also debuted and peaked at No. 4 in 2016 (74,000 in units and 49,000 in sales). Before 7/27, the group collected top 10s with Reflection (No. 5 in 2015) and the Better Together EP (No. 6 in 2013).

With four top 10 albums, Fifth Harmony equals the number of top 10 sets from fellow all-female acts Destiny’s Child and Dixie Chicks. Among all-female groups, only The Supremes have more, with eight top 10s logged between 1965 and 1969.


Kendrick Lamar’s former No. 1 DAMN. slips from No. 3 to No. 5 with 45,000 units (though it’s up 11 percent). The set spends its 20th consecutive week in the top five, since debuting at No. 1 on the May 6-dated chart.

Rap collective A$AP Mob follows up its No. 13-peaking Cozy Tapes, Vol. 1: Friends with the new Cozy Tapes, Vol. 2: Too Cozy, which launches at No. 6. The new effort bows with 41,000 units (7,000 in traditional album sales) and is mostly powered by streams (32,000 SEA units). The first Cozy Tapes effort started with 21,000 units back on the Nov. 19, 2016-dated list.

Trailing A$AP Mob by a small margin, country group Old Dominion debuts at No. 7 on the new Billboard 200 with its second-full length studio album Happy Endings (41,000 units; 31,000 in album sales), granting the act its highest charting effort yet. The album was led by the single “No Such Thing as a Broken Heart,” which reached No. 5 on the Hot Country Songs chart and No. 1 on the Country Airplay chart. Old Dominion previously reached the Billboard 200 with its first studio set, Meat and Candy (No. 16 in 2015) and its self-titled EP (No. 148 in 2015).

Khalid’s American Teen moves 6-8 with 33,000 units (up 15 percent) while Kodak Black’s Project Baby Two falls 2-9 in its second week with just under 33,000 units (down 34 percent).

Rock band The War on Drugs lands its first top 10 effort as its fourth studio album, A Deeper Understanding, starts at No. 10 with 31,000 units (28,000 in traditional album sales). The group’s last release, Lost In the Dream, debuted and peaked at No. 26 in 2014.

A total of seven albums debut in the top 10, giving the chart the most new arrivals in the region since the Nov. 12, 2016-dated tally, when seven albums also launched in the top 10 (led by Lady Gaga’s No. 1 bow with Joanne).

it is amazing to see 5H in such company. it shows that despite that many girl groups over the last several decades could have hit songs with alot going top 10 or even #1 that despite that many did not sell albums or have much longevity on the charts. Fifth Harmony have done well compared to alot of girl groups with that.

Lil Uzi Vert’s first full-length album, Luv Is Rage 2, debuts at No. 1. The album includes his former top 10 hit, “XO Tour Llif3.”

XXXTentacion’s 17 debuts at No. 2.

Queens of the Stone Age lands its third top five album as Villains debuts at No. 3. The album was this week’s best-seller in traditional album sales, but lost out when streaming and digital track sales were factored in. The album enters the Official U.K. Albums Chart at No. 1. It’s the band’s first No. 1 album in the U.K. It’s the first album by an American band to reach No. 1 in the U.K. since Kings of Leon’s Walls in October.

Fifth Harmony lands its fourth top 10 album or EP as Fifth Harmony debuts at No. 4. Only four other all-female groups have amassed four or more top 10 albums. The Supremes lead the pack with eight. Destiny’s Child and Dixie Chicks have also had four. The album includes the hit single “Down” (featuring Gucci Mane), which won Best Pop Video at the VMAs.

Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN. drops from No. 3 to No. 5 its 20th week. The album has logged four weeks at No. 1.

Brand New’s Science Fiction plummets from No. 1 to No. 97 in its second week. That’s by far the steepest fall from No. 1 since 1963, when separate stereo and mono charts were combined into one comprehensive chart. It breaks a record set last November when Bon Jovi’s This House Is Not for Sale tumbled from No. 1 to No. 43 in its second week. Will we start to see albums drop from No. 1 out of the top 100 in their second week? It’s starting to look that way, isn’t it?

Six other albums drop out of the top 10 this week. Neck Deep’s The Peace and the Panic drops from No. 4 completely off The Billboard 200. Kesha’s Rainbow drops from No. 5 to No. 16. DJ Khaled’s Grateful drops from No. 7 to No. 17. Ed Sheeran’s ÷ drops from No. 8 to No. 13. Dave East’s Paranoia: A True Story drops from No. 9 to No. 72. Imagine Dragons’ Evolve drops from No. 10 to No. 12.

The Moana soundtrack drops from No. 18 to No. 21 in its 41st week. The album peaked at No. 2. It’s No. 1 on Top Soundtracks for the 19th week.

Billboard 200 Chart Moves: Chris Stapleton's 'From A Room' Hits a Half-Million Sold

On the latest Billboard 200 albums chart (dated Sept. 16), Lil Uzi Vert leads a parade of debuts into the top 10, as the rapper bows atop the chart with his Luv Is Rage 2 effort. The set earned 135,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Aug. 31, according to Nielsen Music. A total of seven albums arrive in the top 10, including sets from XXXTentacion (No. 2), Queens of the Stone Age (No. 3) and Fifth Harmony (No. 4).

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the week’s most popular albums based on their overall consumption. That overall unit figure combines pure album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).

Now, let’s take a closer look at some of the action on the latest Billboard 200 chart:

— Logic, Everybody – No. 11 — Following Logic’s performance of the album’s “1-800-273-8255” on the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards (Aug. 27), the set vaults from No. 29 to No. 11 with 28,000 units (up 97 percent). On the show, Logic performed the track alongside the song’s featured guests, Alessia Cara and Khalid. Everybody debuted at No. 1 on the May 27-dated chart, but then fell out of the top 10 the following week and has been absent from the region ever since.

— Taylor Swift, 1989 - No. 38 — Taylor Swift’s former No. 1 1989 returns to the top 40 (rising 64-38) with 13,000 units (up 44 percent). The jump comes courtesy of the publicity push behind her new single “Look What You Made Me Do,” which hits No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Elsewhere on the Billboard 200, three earlier Swift albums re-enter the list: Red comes back at No. 118 (6,000 units; up 44 percent), Fearless returns at No. 177 (5,000; up 38 percent) and Speak Now re-enters at No. 194 (4,000 units; up 37 percent).

— Chris Stapleton, From A Room: Volume 1 - No. 76 — Chris Stapleton collects his second half-million selling album, as his latest studio effort From A Room: Volume 1 surpasses 500,000 sold in the latest tracking frame. In the week ending Aug. 31, the album sold 6,000 copies, bringing its cumulative sum to 502,000. Stapleton’s previous effort, his debut set Traveller, has sold 2.05 million.

— Dua Lipa, Dua Lipa – No. 85 — Dua Lipa’s self-titled album hits a new chart high, as it climbs 93-85 (8,000 units; up 7 percent), surpassing the set’s initial peak when it arrived at No. 86 on the June 24-dated list. The rise is concurrent with the album’s song “New Rules” debuting at No. 38 on the Pop Songs airplay chart, and jumping 74-67 on the Hot 100.

— Beyoncé, Lemonade - No. 109 — A number of albums get boosts on the Billboard 200 thanks to vinyl releases, led by Beyoncé’s Lemonade at No. 109 (a re-entry with 7,000 units; up 71 percent). The album sold 5,000 copies in the latest week (up 107 percent) with nearly 3,000 of that sum from its new vinyl LP. On the Vinyl Albums chart, Lemonade arrives at No. 6. Meanwhile, the original Broadway cast recording of Dear Evan Hansen and Paramore’s After Laugher also earn gains thanks to their releases on vinyl. The former arrives at No. 7 on Vinyl Albums (2,000 copies sold) while the latter starts at No. 6 (3,000). On the Billboard 200, Hansen re-enters at No. 138 (5,000 units; up 38 percent) while After Laughter returns at No. 111 (6,000 units; up 81 percent).

I had forgotten that resulted from a Billboard 200 rule change (I somehow did remember Summer Latin Hits 2017 was affected thanks to Despacito, probably):

"Lastly, three albums that were in the top 10 a week ago fall off the chart entirely. The Epic AF compilation, the Summer Latin Hits 2017 compilation, and All Time Low’s Last Young Renegade move from Nos. 3, 8 and 9, respectively, to off the chart. The latter title earned 4,000 units in the latest tracking week (down 88 percent), but that point total was not enough to keep the album on the chart. As for the two compilations, they move off the list following a revision to how our consumption-based album charts rank various artists titles. Now, most various artists compilation albums will only be able to chart on the Billboard 200 and other consumption-ranked album charts based on traditional album sales. Track equivalent album (TEA) units and/or streaming equivalent album (SEA) units will no longer contribute to a various artists’ album ranking and unit count. In the latest tracking week, neither Epic AF or Summer Latin Hits 2017 sold enough in traditional album sales to rank on the Billboard 200."
