Martina McBride Album Series Rankdowns

In the Martina McBride singles rankdown hosted by the wonderful castleoblivion26 , there were a few people who expressed interest in a rankdown series featuring Martina McBride's albums! I was originally planning to host a huge George Strait rankdown next, but considering how many country artist rankdowns are open right now, I decided it will be best to wait a couple months to start George. So in the meantime, I plan to get started with the Martina series!

About the series: Martina has 13 studio albums (so far), spanning from 1992 to 2016. (The above graphic has 15 albums in it, but this rankdown series will omit the Greatest Hits and Live in Concert albums.) She also has a new Christmas album planned for release later this year, so that will put her up to 14 studio albums before this series is done! Also, these rankdowns are going to be QUICK. As in, the submission window might be 2 weeks, or maybe 3. We will hopefully be able to complete these no slower than a rate of one rankdown per month. None of this leaving-the-rankdowns-open-for-10-weeks-because-people-keep-needing-more-time nonsense. People will either be interested or they will not be, and if they are, then 2-3 weeks will be plenty of time to listen to one album.

That being said, if you have never listened to Martina before, checking out just one album at a time over the course of a month would be an extremely easy and gentle way to introduce yourself to her music! We would love to have you join! And if you enjoy her singles but are unfamiliar with her albums, please consider participating in this. Throughout her career, but especially in the later years, many of her best songs never became singles.

For the submission process, I will be doing things a little bit differently. I will be using Google Forms, similarly to how Daryl the Beryl is doing the alt/rock album rankdowns. I will provide a link, people will type in their rankings, and then vote for the next album in the series! That way there is a lot of participant input, and it will be easier than ever to participate.

It is definitely a scenario where the potential reward for participating is much greater than the overall time strain that comes from listening to unfamiliar songs Lol! Since album rankdowns require much less time to listen to the lists, and the overall quality of the music is high for all of these albums...

Regarding this thread, I haven't decided yet whether I will use it for all of them or start a new one for each album. For the purposes of your totals list though, I definitely think participants should be credited for each album, since there will likely be some variation between participants for each album

Eleven Rankdown!!!




Eleven is Martina McBride's (wait for it...) eleventh studio album (whah, no way!), and it was released on October 11, 2011. I figured for our first album we should do one of her more modern albums, because more people are likely to be familiar with some of the songs from it. This album features Martina's most recent top 5 hit, "I'm Gonna Love You Through It", the top 20 "Teenage Daughters", and "Marry Me", which is a cover of the Train song. The album debuted at #4 on the US Country Albums chart, and #10 on the US Billboard 200. It was Martina's one and only album under the Republic Nashville label, who she signed with in 2010 after departing RCA which had been her label home for the previous 20 years of her career. Martina had a hand in writing 8 of the songs for this album, which is extremely unusual for her because she did not start writing until late in her career.

I am so in!!! It'll be interesting to rehash her catalog, and get to the album cuts, many of which I have never heard. Thankfully, I own this album. So, this is an easy starter. Going to listen to it a few more times through though, to see how I like it now.

So far the #1 has stayed the same for the entire submission process! And it's hard to get trends from just 4 submissions, but it seems like our top 3 is promising to be very consistent as well... So far nothing is running away with last place though. And everything in the middle is still anyone's guess!

I will say that right now, everyone's list is having a HUGE impact on the rankings! For example, born just bumped our 8th place overall song all the way back to #12, and it wasn't even one of the songs in his bottom 3!

I mean, why not! They're all short and quick, and will be full of fun, respectable people!

Plus the albums themselves are all quite consistent, imo. It's not like you'll regret taking the time to listen to any of them

The songs I've heard so far are indeed good. I just don't think they'll get more plays because they're too country for me. However, my top 3 (which is epic, btw) 'Eleven' songs could easily make my country-pop playlist.

There have been some country ones I'd like to participate but 1. There were so much bigger than this one 2. were on during the Rankdowns-clusterf*ck period. I'm still sad about missing the Miranda Lambert one.
