"Feels Like Home" is really well produced! I love the way that Raul and Martina's voices sound on this song. They sound fantastic together, and their voices are both so rich and resonant. I especially love the way Martina's low vibrato sounds when she sings "Hope this feeling lasts" towards the beginning of the song That being said, the chorus to this song is a tad too repetitive for me to be TOO in love with this song. I never skip it or anything, but I feel like this is a perfect time for it to leave.

Lmao I should have included this song in my "Duets with Old People" question at the beginning of the rankdown! I totally forgot about it! I am honestly not a huge fan of Anne's voice on this recording, but when she and Martina are singing together they do blend very well. I am surprised this did as well as it did, as I figured it would be a bottom 15 contender! g8erboi loses a top 5, while George Strait Junkie finally loses his second-to-last.

Up next, the pain begins... We take a brief break from the random duets, and get rid of one of the first noteworthy Martina solo songs Starting with someone's #2!

Ugh, y'all, this one got done DIRTY!!!! "You'll Get Through This" is one of the most soulful vocals Martina has ever given us :'( I love this song so much! But still, I was only able to put it at #11, which just shows how strong the songs are as we delve deeper into the top half of this list. Lmao ClevelandRox what are you doing...

Right on the heels of "You'll Get Through This", another Martina solo song bites the dust! This time it is "Surrender", one of the leftovers from her Greatest Hits recording sessions that RCA tacked onto a new Greatest Hits album in 2012 after Martina switched record labels. I am not surprised to see this song leave here; I personally think it deserved better, but this is about what I expected from it. I love this song, and I think it is super catchy! But I can see why people might find it to be kinda lame, repetitive, not enough chorus melody, etc. However, I think there is a bit of understated catchiness to the way "Surreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeendeeeeeeer" is sang with the background vocals weaving behind it. Also, the drum fill at 1:03 is my favorite drum fill in Martina's entire catalog! However, as much as I love this one, there is no question in my mind that she made the right decision to leave this one off of her Greatest Hits album in favor of "God-Fearin' Women", "Where Would You Be", "Concrete Angel", and "Blessed". This song is great, but those four are on a whole other level!

And the solo songs continue to drop like flies This time the song to leave us is "Through Your Eyes", which comes to us from the Bambi II soundtrack. Lmao I think this is a song that would be much better liked if people didn't know it was from the Bambi II soundtrack The verses kinda verge into the expected Disney Cheesiness that you would expect on a song from a Bambi II soundtrack, but the melody to this song absolutely slays! Imo, as the song goes on it manages to redeem itself well enough to function as a standalone song by a country music superstar that just happens to be on a Disney soundtrack album. While the first verse seems a little cheesy, the chorus is extremely strong, and then by the time the full band kicks in heading into the second verse (heralded by a fantastic drum entrance that suddenly turns the song from a ballad to an uptempo) I can't help but be 100% bought in. Throw in the fact that this was one of Martina's first modern-sounding releases right after she spend a couple years in Timeless mode, this song was SO exciting and fresh upon release. Lol

Kicking off the top 15, we say adios to the FOURTH solo song in a row, with "Being Myself". Another Greatest Hits reject that was tacked onto the Hits and More album in 2012, this song was actually first made available back in 2004 with the On Target album that was available exclusively through Target stores. This song is a light, breezy celebration of self-love, meant to build confidence and inspire the audience, which is Martina's bread and butter. I personally think this would have managed to be a huge hit for her had it ever had a chance to be widely released! It isn't one of her more showstopping vocal performances or anything, but it is just plain fun!

Finally, another duet! "That Old Flame" is incredible, but I am honestly a bit shocked it did this well. I figured it would have been out closer to the middle. However, it proved to not be very polarizing here, as nobody put it in their top 5 or bottom 10, which undoubtedly helped it to outlast several songs that had more low ranks to bring them down.

For lucky #13, ClevelandRox becomes the first person to lose their #1!! ClevelandRox, I'm assuming this song was a discovery for you? I was shocked to see it get a #1, but I admire the bold move! This song is freaking incredible. Bob and Martina sound absolutely amazing together, and the way the melody builds turns this into one of the most epic and perfect male-female duets I have ever heard. As shocked as I was to see it get a #1, I was even more shocked to see how much random hate this one got :'( This song was in the top 10 for literally the entire submission process until .indulgecountry and Kanenrá:ke's ranks compounded on each other right at the end to take it down....

"Little Bits Of Lightning" has always been hella underrated imo, so I am definitely very happy to see it do so well here! I especially love the production here. Martina's vocals are in top epic form here, and there are some really cool features to the instrumental arrangement that help the song to stick with me. For example, that random booming bass drum that happens every couple measures in the middle of the chorus is insanely cool. Especially when you are on a good sound system! Also, in the second chorus, when Martina sings "like little bits of lightning", and the choir suddenly is really loud behind her, and an epic drum fill happens, and then that epic bass drum hit happens, is one of my favorite mid-chorus surprises of her entire career! And then how the choir is super prominent for the rest of the song, makes it sound transcendental when you are in the right mood. Lmao I get excited about the weirdest things.

"Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man" is a Loretta Lynn classic, but I am SHOCKED it managed to nearly make the top 10 here! It didn't even get that many high rankings. It basically managed to climb for the entire submission process until it inexplicably jumped from the low teens to the high teens right at the end. I don't think it would have made the top 10 had we gotten more submissions, but I guess now we'll always have to wonder!
Anyway, I find the bayou flavorings of this one to be a tad annoying, so I don't listen to this one nearly as much as I do the other Alan Jackson duet "Never Loved Before." So I am glad to see this one out first.

The top 10 feels right although I wish Being Myself would have gotten a little closer or broken in. But the top 10 is stacked with bops! I think I'm rooting for either Blessed or God-fearing Women for the top spot.

Hope Floats is one of my family's favorite movies/Chances Are one of my go-to Martina songs. I always watch the credits just to hear it. I figured it would get lost in the duets for some people, but still happy with a top 15! That Reba song still being in though. 😂

I do have to say that I'm a little disappointed to see "On My Own" and "Nashville Girls" in the Top 10. I like both but I don't believe they belong in the Top 10, especially over some of the songs that left recently. Other than those 2 I am happy with the Top 10.
"You'll Get Through This" will forever be one of my favorites from her and I'm sad that people don't like it more.

Glad to see “Danny’s Song” do as well as it did because it’s one of Anne Murray’s classic songs and one that I’ve always enjoyed. I remember her being rather polarizing in the 80’s Ladies of Country rankdown so kind of figured the same would apply here.
Not a fan of nor do I like how Martina sings “Surrender” and I actually think I was a bit too generous with my #32 ranking because I don't care for any part of the song.
“Being Myself” on the other hand is great and think it would’ve worked well for her on another album and likely would’ve been a hit had it been a single. This was a great discovery!
While I’ve never seen the movie Hope Floats I do remember buying the soundtrack when it was out at the time because I loved both “To Make You Feel My Love” and “Chances Are”. Glad to see this sneak inside the top 15 because it’s a gorgeous song and I’ve always loved how Martina’s and Bob’s voices sound together. I really should check out this movie sometime because it was actually filmed in a town just southeast of Austin.
Thrilled to see “Trip Around the Sun” make it into the top 10 because I thought I remember that being somewhat of a polarizing song in the 2004 rankdown. I think I probably overranked “Nashville Girls” a bit but considering how well it did in the Terri Clark rankdown I’m not at all surprised to see it make it into the top 10.

For the next set of bonus songs, Martina is on background vocals!
Bonus: "Georgia" - Carolyn Dawn Johnson
Carolyn Dawn Johnson had a brief string of success in the early '00s, including this song which was her debut single. It ended up reaching the top 5 in Canada and top 25 in the USA. What people may not know about Carolyn is that between bouts of success, she has frequently been part of Martina's band! She has a pretty lucrative career as one of Martina's backup singers, which is pretty awesome if you ask me. It is only fitting that Martina would turn around and sing background vocals for her on her debut single! I wish CDJ had been able to achieve more success as a solo artist, because her voice is incredible.

Bonus: "This Small Divide" - Jason Sellers
"This Small Divide" was a minor hit for Jason Sellers in 1998 (peaked at #55). He had a very brief stint of success as a solo artist, but ultimately is better known for being a songwriter. Also, he is known for being Lee Ann Womack's husband in the '90s.

Bonus: "I'll Be The Wind" - Garth Brooks
Lmao this song is worth mentioning, but Garth never even put it on an official album. It is only available on one of his big compilation collections that you had to buy specifically at Target or something like that. I have only heard the song like once myself. Certainly not one I was about to include in this rankdown, because it is just plain impossible to find... From what I remember though, Martina's background parts are pretty prominent!
This was not the first time Martina and Garth collaborated, as she actually got her big break in large part thanks to him. She was selling t-shirts for him on his tour, and he told her if she was able to get a record deal he would make her his opening act. Which she did, and the rest is history! Garth ended up coming into the studio to record background vocals on her first album for "Cheap Whiskey", so it is only too fitting that she would return the favor here now that she was a more established star
