I liked stunnedout 's thread so I decided to make one with another female matchup. So, first we have Taylor Swift. An ex-country/currently pop singer with weak but stable vocals. She's definitely improving day by day but you could never say she is a powerhouse. Her singing is always decent though. Then there's Katy Perry. A huge pop star with a much much bigger vocal range & some great high or low notes (and some screamy ones too). But does size matter when you're 50/50 & you never know if you're going to deliver? My comment shows that I don't really like Katy's vocals which is true The thing is that this isn't about Taylor, Katy is one of my favorite artists too. I never really thought she was a great singer though. She's decent but not great. Taylor's not good either but she doesn't have THAT many vocal fails & screamy notes. Anyways, NO, I don't think that Taylor is one of the best vocalists, I'm not that delusional. I think they're both at the bottom of the "Best Live Singers" list with Britney & Selena. (Taylor>Katy>=Britney>>>Selena).

I feel this needs a poll though.
EDIT: Thanks.
Anyway, Taylor over Katy. Taylor has a better voice, and Katy can sing fine, but even in her best years she does sound pretty bad. Hummingbird Heartbeat has her worst vocal performance ever, and her latest album has her voice taken to new lows. Her voice sounds terrible on Power, the vocal effects on Mind Maze are awful and she just sounds even more tasteless now than ever before. Except somehow that tastelessness is somehow even worse with her voice. I just prefer Taylor's voice over Katy's, 'nuff said.

Definitely Taylor. I think her Grammy Museum performances showcase how adept her voice can be.

Neither is a great singer. Taylor is better though.

I guess I'll vote for Taylor since she's at least improved. Katy, who probably has more natural ability to work with, basically sounds as shitty live today as she did when she debuted.

As someone who easily prefers Taylor > Katy, I will say that I usually do like Katy's voice better. That said, there are some vocal performances that are hard to get through - "By The Grace Of God" is one that I think is god awful, ironically, since the poster above me clearly thinks it has potential to be a highlight.
I'll still give it to Katy, but it's close enough that another terrible ballad will swing it to Taylor for me.

I will not vote as I think both are pretty good! :) Definitely not powerhouse but I liked their vocals mostly.

This poll is like voting as to whether the Walmart or Stop-and-Shop brand of Cola is more similar to Coca-Cola.

Swift sounds excruciating even on studio versions (that "big" note in Shake It Off is just...). Katy is very inconsistent but she can deliver when her breath control is working.

Neither can really sing. I'll vote for Katy simply because I like her tone better. If she was a stronger vocalist, I'd love her. I absolutely loved the sound of her voice when I first heard "I Kissed A Girl" and then I heard her do it live and, well, it was atrocious.
Both have improved SOME over the years but not that much IMO.
