Thankfully Mi Gente is not going to pull a Despacito Rockstar will probably be a future #1. Its finally getting airplay. I don't get why there is no video for it at all Very interesting to know that it got 25m streams on AM last week. On Spotify, it got 17m, but there still some other 2m left from anything else

How iconic is that top three?
01 NE Candle In The Wind 1997 / Something About The Way You Look Tonight - Elton John (1st of 14 weeks at #1) Probably the biggest hit of the 1990s using real points. That week, CITW debuted with 17 times more points than Seasons Of Loneliness (#2).
03 04 How Do I Live - LeAnn Rimes The biggest hit of the 1990s using the inverse point system that Billboard uses.
Two of the three songs that finished in the top 10 of two different years. The only songs to do so in two consecutive years.

Is there a possibility for Taylor to get back to number 1 anymore? Not likely. Airplay is brickwalling and streaming is dropping. The only thing doing fairly well still is her sales, but that's going to start falling soon too, I'm sure.

And to think I thought they were dead in 2014. ...dead as in you didn't like Evil Friends or dead as in the band was falling off in popularity? The cycle behind Evil Friends was their largest pre- Woodstock and gave them their biggest hit on Alt radio before "Feel It Still" came around.

As with the case of ANY song. A huge smash such as 'You Light Up My Life' is a huge for that period. It was a big song for the time and certainly deserved all the accolades.
Now not all songs hold up the same over time. Other songs from the 70s get more attention.
Same with the 80s.
'Physical' is #1 for the 80s chart-wise but in terms of interest a generation later, #1 would have to be 'Don't Stop Believin''

^ Sometimes mediocrity works. It's safe and appeals to the widest audience possible and gets play on as many formats as possible. But I would say Closer and Shape of You could also be described as boring and mediocre, so that probably helped them too, but ultimately it all comes down to opinion.
