My first night in Juarez, I lost all the money I had. One bad señorita made use of one innocent lad. But I must keep on runnin’; it’s too late to turn back. I’m wanted in Tucson, I’m told. Yeah, and things’ll blow over on the seashores of ol’ Mexico.

Despite my #97 rank, I don't hate this by any means. I just have never been able to fully get into it. It would be nice if the song had a chorus or something, because I find the repetitive melody to get somewhat annoying. Plus the instrumentation just does not stack up to George's other work for me. He started playing with more orchestral strings around this point in his career, and it just is not as satisfying as the fiddle that he used to offer so much before. The production to this song relies way too much on said strings. Anyway, I'd still probably give the song a solid B, but it still could not perform for me well here. The trajectory for this song was very positive though! Most people seemed to feel ambivalent towards it at worst, and it was able to steadily climb for most of the submission process! {Songs Remaining} A Fire I Can’t Put Out Adalida All My Ex’s Live In Texas Amarillo By Morning Baby Blue Baby’s Gotten Good At Goodbye Blue Clear Sky Carried Away Carrying Your Love With Me Check Yes Or No Cold Beer Conversation Cowboys Like Us Desperately Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind Easy Come, Easy Go Fool Hearted Memory Give It All We Got Tonight Give It Away Go On Heartland Here For A Good Time How ‘Bout Them Cowgirls I Can Still Make Cheyenne I Cross My Heart I Got A Car I Hate Everything I Just Want To Dance With You I Saw God Today I’d Like To Have That One Back I’ve Come To Expect It From You If I Know Me If You Can Do Anything Else If You’re Thinking You Want A Stranger It Just Comes Natural Living And Living Well Living For The Night Love Without End, Amen Love’s Gonna Make It Alright Marina Del Rey Meanwhile Murder On Music Row Nobody In His Right Mind Would’ve Left Her Ocean Front Property One Night At A Time Round About Way Run She Let Herself Go She’ll Leave You With A Smile The Best Day The Big One The Chair The Chill Of An Early Fall The Cowboy Rides Away The Fireman Today My World Slipped Away Troubadour True Unwound Wrapped Write This Down You Can’t Make A Heart Love Somebody You Know Me Better Than That You Look So Good In Love You’ll Be There

With this song, we say goodbye to the longest song title of the rankdown! It is also the biggest hit chart-wise from his debut album (peaked at #3), even though "Unwound" seems to be the most remembered today (probably because it was his debut single). Overall, I was very disappointed with a lot of the hate that this one received. There were multiple times where it came close to the bottom 20. Fortunately it managed to come close to the top 60 when all was said and done! It is definitely not a bottom-20-worthy single like most artists' debut-album singles end up being in a large rankdown like this. I love this song! {Songs Remaining} A Fire I Can’t Put Out Adalida All My Ex’s Live In Texas Amarillo By Morning Baby Blue Baby’s Gotten Good At Goodbye Blue Clear Sky Carried Away Carrying Your Love With Me Check Yes Or No Cold Beer Conversation Cowboys Like Us Desperately Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind Easy Come, Easy Go Fool Hearted Memory Give It All We Got Tonight Give It Away Go On Heartland Here For A Good Time How ‘Bout Them Cowgirls I Can Still Make Cheyenne I Cross My Heart I Got A Car I Hate Everything I Just Want To Dance With You I Saw God Today I’d Like To Have That One Back I’ve Come To Expect It From You If I Know Me If You Can Do Anything Else It Just Comes Natural Living And Living Well Living For The Night Love Without End, Amen Love’s Gonna Make It Alright Marina Del Rey Meanwhile Murder On Music Row Nobody In His Right Mind Would’ve Left Her Ocean Front Property One Night At A Time Round About Way Run She Let Herself Go She’ll Leave You With A Smile The Best Day The Big One The Chair The Chill Of An Early Fall The Cowboy Rides Away The Fireman Today My World Slipped Away Troubadour True Unwound Wrapped Write This Down You Can’t Make A Heart Love Somebody You Know Me Better Than That You Look So Good In Love You’ll Be There

WOW.
How did you guys manage to do “If You’re Thinkin’ You Want A Stranger” SO dirty?! Seriously one of his best songs, which means it’s seriously one of my all-time favorite songs period.

This song was an unfortunate flop for George, because there was a ton of buzz surrounding its release, and if he was ever going to have a hit again this would have been it. Unfortunately to me it suffers from the same problem that the rest of the singles from this album did of just being kinda boring. Not everyone felt the same, however, as it climbed for most of the submission process after a rough start! It was never a contender for the top 50, but placing somewhere in the 50s looked like a guarantee for awhile. {Songs Remaining} A Fire I Can’t Put Out Adalida All My Ex’s Live In Texas Amarillo By Morning Baby Blue Baby’s Gotten Good At Goodbye Blue Clear Sky Carried Away Carrying Your Love With Me Check Yes Or No Cowboys Like Us Desperately Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind Easy Come, Easy Go Fool Hearted Memory Give It All We Got Tonight Give It Away Go On Heartland Here For A Good Time How ‘Bout Them Cowgirls I Can Still Make Cheyenne I Cross My Heart I Got A Car I Hate Everything I Just Want To Dance With You I Saw God Today I’d Like To Have That One Back I’ve Come To Expect It From You If I Know Me If You Can Do Anything Else It Just Comes Natural Living And Living Well Living For The Night Love Without End, Amen Love’s Gonna Make It Alright Marina Del Rey Meanwhile Murder On Music Row Nobody In His Right Mind Would’ve Left Her Ocean Front Property One Night At A Time Round About Way Run She Let Herself Go She’ll Leave You With A Smile The Best Day The Big One The Chair The Chill Of An Early Fall The Cowboy Rides Away The Fireman Today My World Slipped Away Troubadour True Unwound Wrapped Write This Down You Can’t Make A Heart Love Somebody You Know Me Better Than That You Look So Good In Love You’ll Be There

Album Spotlight: Cold Beer Conversation
Released: September 25, 2015 Label: MCA Nashville Producer: Chuck Ainlay, George Strait Runtime: 46 min. 12 sec. Country Albums Chart: 1 Certification: None Singles/Rankdown Placements:
Let It Go (91) Cold Beer Conversation (63) Goin' Goin' Gone (87) Average Rank: 80.33 Tracklist:
1. It Was Love 2. Cold Beer Conversation 3. Let It Go 4. Goin' Goin' Gone 5. Something Going Down 6. Take Me To Texas 7. It Takes All Kinds 8. Stop And Drink 9. Everything I See 10. Rock Paper Scissors 11. Wish You Well 12. Cheaper Than A Shrink 13. Even When I Can't Feel It George's most recent album is the second one we must say goodbye to. This album was surprise-released back in 2015, and it created SO much hype!! Unfortunately, for me the album did not live up to the hype. This album is kinda boring to me. George changed producers for this project, and it just does not have the same magic to me as anything by Tony Brown. And to make matters more frustrating, literally all the worst songs were chosen as singles... All of the songs highlighted below would have been perfect choices for radio, and potentially done better on the charts than any of the singles that ended up getting released. Album Tracks:"It Was Love"
This was clearly the big hit off of the album, and the one that everyone seems to list among songs that should have been released as singles. It sure would have made much more sense than "Let It Go" as a lead single. The melody for this one seems a little repetitive at first, but this is one where the more you listen to it the more it grows on you. Now when I listen to it I can't get it out of my head for days! "Take Me To Texas"
This ode to Texas has everything. Crying steel guitar in the forefront, lyrics about Texas pride, and an awesome vocal from one of Texas' most famous voices of all time. This would have definitely been a huge regional hit in Texas! George is the perfect person to sing this song. "Everything I See"
This is a song George co-wrote after losing his dad a few years ago. This was another huge missed opportunity, because George hits all the emotions right on the head with this one. The melody is very strong, along with the vocal, and especially the lyrics. This is one that might make some people cry if he were to sing it live! I love everything about it. "Rock Paper Scissors"
This is one of the more underrated songs on the album. I seem to be the only one who raves about this one, but I would be remiss to exclude it here. This has by far the strongest melody on the album, and the production is just so unique for a George Strait song. It is practically a rock song, in fact. The screaming guitars hit hard from the very beginning. But of course there is a countermelody with a fiddle complementing the guitars, which just makes this song that much more badass. "Cheaper Than A Shrink"
This song is great for the perspective it provides. The main character of the song is a really interesting person to hear a song about, and he is described in awesome lyrical detail. And the dobro laden production just makes it even better! Joe Nichols recorded this song a few years ago as well, and I think this is a perfect song for both of them. bboat11 @adam1995 Cody Wants Out... .indulgecountry codyj100 sabre14 George Strait Junkie zaclord 🌈 mamasaid castleoblivion26 DistrictTwelve countrymusicjunkie CoJoFan gardyfan carriekins fearlessarrow LBTrocks tim BackwoodsBarbie Kanenrá:ke

Not hatred on my part at all, just his catalog is so strong it ended up low.

I think radio told MCA that the George Strait radio era was over, which is why Cold Beer Conversation didn't have "It Was Love" and "Everything I See" to radio. I'm not sure what other reason there could be.

I think radio told MCA that the George Strait radio era was over, which is why Cold Beer Conversation didn't have "It Was Love" and "Everything I See" to radio. I'm not sure what other reason there could be. Radio was pretty over George after "I Got A Car" in 2014. "Goin' Goin' Gone" was released as a single in September of 2016 -- six months after "Cold Beer Conversation" went recurrent, so they went over a calendar year with the album released and a single still being promoted to radio. "Goin' Goin' Gone" did nothing at mainstream however (just missing the top 70 on Mediabase in December), instead charting in the top 30 on secondary radio. As great as "It Was Love" was, I don't think anything would've gotten George to the top 30 after "Cold Beer Conversation" and they likely opted to go with an upbeat like "Goin' Goin' Gone" after some presumed research into what would be best for a secondary push. "Cold Beer Conversation" could very well be his final top 40 single. They just didn't want to bother with another single after "Goin' Goin Gone." The bigger issue was deciding on "Goin' Goin' Gone" over "It Was Love" or "Everything I See."

Dang I had high hopes for "Cold Beer Conversation", didn't think it'd make the top 20, but was hoping somewhere in the 30's at least. :(

This is one of George's more recent hits, and was a very consistent performer in this rankdown. It was pretty much always in the 50s or 60s on the trajectory. With this elimination, "Here For A Good Time" is the last remaining song from this album!

Guitar/pedal steel solo is great. I also like the positive/everything's gonna be alright vibes it gives off.
Edit - Just saw that it was written by Chris Stapleton. I hope he'll record something like this in the future.

Well, they made it, at least on Mediabase, making this George's 60th #1! Ironically, it just misses out on the top 60 in this rankdown. This is the first song we have seen that started out as a clear top 50 contender and then got tanked out of it. It almost made a comeback and entered the top 60, but unfortunately it just couldn't make it there. Personally I have always really liked this song, but I can see where people might have soured on it after the big radio push. Still, I think most of us like it, as it made the top 50 on half the lists, and came close on a few others! {Songs Remaining} A Fire I Can’t Put Out Adalida All My Ex’s Live In Texas Amarillo By Morning Baby Blue Baby’s Gotten Good At Goodbye Blue Clear Sky Carried Away Carrying Your Love With Me Check Yes Or No Cowboys Like Us Desperately Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind Easy Come, Easy Go Fool Hearted Memory Give It Away Go On Heartland Here For A Good Time How ‘Bout Them Cowgirls I Can Still Make Cheyenne I Cross My Heart I Got A Car I Hate Everything I Just Want To Dance With You I Saw God Today I’d Like To Have That One Back I’ve Come To Expect It From You If I Know Me If You Can Do Anything Else It Just Comes Natural Living And Living Well Living For The Night Love Without End, Amen Marina Del Rey Meanwhile Murder On Music Row Nobody In His Right Mind Would’ve Left Her Ocean Front Property One Night At A Time Round About Way Run She Let Herself Go She’ll Leave You With A Smile The Best Day The Big One The Chair The Chill Of An Early Fall The Cowboy Rides Away The Fireman Today My World Slipped Away Troubadour True Unwound Wrapped Write This Down You Can’t Make A Heart Love Somebody You Know Me Better Than That You Look So Good In Love You’ll Be There

Yeah I remember that 60-for-60 campaign why else would I ranked this song at #60 xD I really like verses (especially melody) but nothing stands out in chorus and that's why I didn't rank this one higher (although I probably should because I'm listening to it right now and I like it more and more).

Since things have been so spaced out lately, and we're entering the top 60, I will post a recap now! 100. Shiftwork 99. Overnight Success 98. Drinking Champagne 97. You're Something Special To Me 96. I Believe 95. River Of Love 94. Lovesick Blues 93. Down And Out 92. Twang 91. Let It Go 90. Lovebug 89. The Breath You Take 88. Don't Make Me Come Over There And Love You 87. Goin' Goin' Gone 86. Tell Me Something Bad About Tulsa 85. I Know She Still Loves Me 84. Lead On 83. King Of The Mountain 82. What's Going On In Your World 81. So Much Like My Dad 80. Am I Blue 79. Texas 78. The Man In Love With You 77. When Did You Stop Loving Me 76. I Gotta Get To You 75. If You Ain't Lovin' (You Ain' Livin') 74. We Really Shouldn't Be Doing This 73. It Ain't Cool To Be Crazy About You 72. Right Or Wrong 71. Let's Fall To Pieces Together 70. Gone As A Girl Can Get 69. Ace In The Hole 68. Famous Last Words Of A Fool 67. Drinkin' Man 66. What Do You Say To That 65. The Seashores Of Old Mexico 64. If You're Thinking You Want A Stranger (There's One Coming Home) 63. Cold Beer Conversation 62. Love's Gonna Make It Alright 61. Give It All We Got Tonight 1980s: 12 of 27 (44% eliminated) 1990s: 12 of 36 (33% eliminated) 2000s: 7 of 26 (27% eliminated) 2010s: 9 of 11 (82% eliminated) #1 hits: 16 of 60 (27% eliminated) At this point in the rankdown, it is clear that the 2010s are underperforming relative to the rest of his catalog. Only 2 songs remain from that category ("I Got A Car" and "Here For A Good Time"). The 2000s are performing best overall, but the '90s are not too far behind. And '80s are not out of the running either! Entering the top 60, we have only lost just over 1/4 of George's #1s as well! With 27% of them being gone, the top 60 is basically 3/4 composed of #1 hits!!! What an impressive career

Kicking off the top 60, it's time for somebody's #1 to slip away!!!!! Could it be yours? If your name is DistrictTwelve, then the answer is no. Everyone else should be very very nervous!

Being in 5 peoples' top 30 as well as 6 peoples' bottom 30, this song has a fairly high standard deviation. It was also one song that kept moving right up to the end! Looking at the trajectory, the last 3 submissions helped save this song from falling out in the 70s!

I lost my #100 in the process, so I guess I shouldn't be too mad about songs in my top 40 dropping like flies...

Kicking off the top 60, it's time for somebody's #1 to slip away!!!!! Could it be yours? If your name is DistrictTwelve , then the answer is no. Everyone else should be very very nervous! Nice guess Cody Wants Out..., but the "slipped away" image also appears in "The Chill Of An Early Fall"! "Today My World Slipped Away" gets to live another day! "Oh how quick they slip away; here today and gone tomorrow. Love and seasons never stay. Bitter winds are sure to follow."

I like "Give It All We Got Tonight" a lot and it really stood out on 2013 Country radio, when that tidal wave of bro-country laced their airwaves. It was a interesting chorus and I enjoyed the melody.
