...continuing on with my fan notes... #69: My mom and I traveled to Denver for George Strait concert #3 in 1998. This was the first year George ventured out on his Country Music Festival tour...this leg included Asleep at the Wheel, Lila McCann, Lee Ann Womack, John Michael Montgomery, Faith Hill, and Tim McGraw. It was mile high sunny until the King came on stage...it ended up raining for most of George's set. I ended dancing with some random girl during one of George's songs but when she found out I was not even 18 she scrammed. I probably should've just told her I was gay first lol. I've been wanting to share that one for a while...going to keep posting them as they come back to me!

bboat11 there's sure a lot of 'blue' in that hint! It can't be "Blue Clear Sky" cuz there are clouds in that picture. Maybe it is "Blue" or "Ocean Front Property"

One Night At A Time is a definition of perfect song. Whoever put this rhythm and this melody together is genius in my eyes. I can't imagine a song more suitable for dancing with a guy in some party late in the night.
"All night, love all night Practice makes perfect, gonna get it right Gonna get it right one night at a time"
Perfect, simply perfect song.

After she packed, when she looked back There were no tears in her eyes. And that’s got me worried, Thinkin’ maybe my baby’s gotten good at goodbye.
31. "Baby's Gotten Good At Goodbye"
Album: Beyond The Blue Neon Year: 1988
This is one of my very favorite George Strait songs from the '80s... I cannot believe it missed the top 30 > Towards the beginning of the submission process, this one looked like a sure lock for the top 20, but unfortunately it couldn't hang on. Still, it was destined to make the top 30 until Kanenrá:ke knocked it out... (And I do hold grudges, by the way... ) Anyway, this song is lyrically incredible, and the melody is that sneaky-catchy type, that reels you in without you even realizing it. @adam1995 is the latest to say goodbye to his #1 with this reveal. {Songs Remaining} All My Ex’s Live In Texas Amarillo By Morning Baby Blue Blue Clear Sky Carried Away Carrying Your Love With Me Check Yes Or No Fool Hearted Memory Give It Away Heartland I Can Still Make Cheyenne I Got A Car I Hate Everything If I Know Me It Just Comes Natural Living And Living Well Love Without End, Amen Marina Del Rey Ocean Front Property Run She Let Herself Go She’ll Leave You With A Smile The Chair The Cowboy Rides Away Today My World Slipped Away Troubadour True Write This Down You Know Me Better Than That You Look So Good In Love Guys... :|

I was so focused on being mad because One Night At A Time was eliminated that I didn't even noticed that Baby's Gotten Good At Goodbye is out as well... This is another great song that I didn't know a few months ago but now I know it by heart. It has such a nice melody and George looks so good in this video .

So... I don't get what's good about "Ocean Front Property". I like the verses just enough but I don't really like the chorus. For some reason the line "I got some ocean front property in Arizona" bothers me a lot in terms of the way George sings the words "ocean front property" and how the line slows down afterwards when he sings "in Arizona". Idk if that got across so to put it shorter, it just sounds like this in my head: "OCEAN! FRONT! PROPERTY! in Aaaaaarrriiiiizzzooooonnnna", which I don't like (the OCEAN! FRONT! PROPERTY! part is exaggerated for effect).

There’s a difference in livin’ and livin’ well. You can’t have it all all by yourself. Somethin’s always missin’ ‘til you share it with someone else. There’s a difference in livin’ and livin’ well.

This was the song that George was wrong about... I have heard him say before that he hated this song, and thought it had no potential whatsoever, but the label convinced him to record it anyway. And then they released it as a single, despite his protests, in a time when he was undoubtedly in 100% creative control over his career. Lo and behold, the label was right, and it went on to become one of the biggest hits of his career! I never even paid much attention to country radio around 2002, but I still remember this song being EVERYWHERE! And here on Pulse, who happens to be incredibly picky, we collectively enjoyed the song enough to put it in the top 30 of George's singles. I get so much joy out of listening to this song. It is one of George's best vocal performances (especially the high part in the bridge), and the production is so lively and modern while still feeling like classic George. I was super impressed this song made it this high, and that it was pretty much always a candidate for the top 30! I seriously hope that George has kinda come to appreciate this song more through the years, because it is truly one of his best. {Songs Remaining} All My Ex’s Live In Texas Amarillo By Morning Baby Blue Blue Clear Sky Carried Away Carrying Your Love With Me Check Yes Or No Fool Hearted Memory Give It Away Heartland I Can Still Make Cheyenne I Got A Car I Hate Everything If I Know Me It Just Comes Natural Love Without End, Amen Marina Del Rey Ocean Front Property Run She Let Herself Go She’ll Leave You With A Smile The Chair The Cowboy Rides Away Today My World Slipped Away Troubadour True Write This Down You Know Me Better Than That You Look So Good In Love

This song has always been pretty underrated, and toward the beginning of the rankdown it looked like this wouldn't be able to generate much support, so I am thrilled with how high this managed to place!#29 was the second-highest position that this held out of the entire submission process.
George's voice is super resonant during the chorus to this song, which is what has always jumped out at me the most about this one. Also the melody is so simple, yet so infectious. I get this song stuck in my head for literally weeks at a time. Which is totally okay with me!

Album Spotlight: If You Ain't Lovin' You Ain't Livin'
Released: February 22, 1988 Label: MCA Nashville Producer: Jimmy Bowen, George Strait Runtime: 29 min. 17 sec. Country Albums Chart: 1 Certification: Platinum
Singles/Rankdown Placements: Famous Last Words Of A Fool (68) Baby Blue (29) If You Ain't Lovin' (You Ain't Livin') (75)
Average Rank: 57.33
Tracklist: 1. If You Ain't Lovin' (You Ain't Livin') 2. Under These Conditions 3. Baby Blue 4. Don't Mind If I Do 5. Bigger Man Than Me 6. Famous Last Words Of A Fool 7. It's Too Late Now 8. Is It That Time Again 9. Let's Get Down To It 10. Back To Bein' Me
Album Tracks: "Under These Conditions"
This is all you get from this album. This is honestly the only album track I ever go out of my way to hear... One of my least-favorite of George's albums, for sure. "Under These Conditions", however, is incredible. The lyrics are so well-crafted, and the production perfectly captures the atmosphere of a smoky bar or something. And of course the melody stands out even more with how expertly it is navigated by George's voice. bboat11 @adam1995 Cody Wants Out... .indulgecountry codyj100 sabre14 George Strait Junkie zaclord 🌈 mamasaid castleoblivion26 DistrictTwelve countrymusicjunkie CoJoFan gardyfan carriekins fearlessarrow LBTrocks tim BackwoodsBarbie Kanenrá:ke

This song is awesome in every sense of the word. My favorite part is just the overall dark and moody atmosphere it provides. This is also one of my favorite vocal performances from George (actually, you might as well say that this entire era from George was one of his best from a vocal standpoint. "Run" is somehow even better sung than this one and "Living and Living Well"!) Trajectory-wise, y'all were not as kind to this song as I would have liked. There was a stretch in the middle where it looked about ready to jump out of the top 50. Fortunately it regained its footing, and managed to finish at its second-highest position! Also, this song only beat "Living And Living Well" by 3 points! Talk about consistency! (As well as close results...) {Songs Remaining} All My Ex’s Live In Texas Amarillo By Morning Blue Clear Sky Carried Away Carrying Your Love With Me Check Yes Or No Fool Hearted Memory Give It Away Heartland I Can Still Make Cheyenne I Got A Car I Hate Everything If I Know Me It Just Comes Natural Love Without End, Amen Marina Del Rey Ocean Front Property Run She Let Herself Go The Chair The Cowboy Rides Away Today My World Slipped Away Troubadour True Write This Down You Know Me Better Than That You Look So Good In Love

"Run" better not be showing up anytime soon. "She'll Leave You With A Smile" is a great song and I hated ranking it at 35 but I really love most of my Top 50 so it isn't that I dislike it by any means.

The four people who put this in their top 10 agree with me, I'm sure. Unfortunately , our moderators seem to view things differently...
This was a song that came SO CLOSE to making the top 20 on SO MANY different occasions, and just never quite got there. Kanenrá:ke could have been the one to do it, if only he had boosted it instead of tanked it, because it was at #21 before he got a hold of it...
Okay, I'll leave the mods alone now. Basically I have always enjoyed the lyrics to this song, and George's voice sounds SO sad. The entire song just emanates heartbreak, and is extremely gorgeous in the process.

When she was on tour with him a couple years ago, she tweeted that she was backstage listening to him sing this song, and can't even believe how lucky she is or something to that effect. And you can't blame her; this song is well-liked enough to almost place in the top 1/4 of George's singles according to Pulse!
This song about leaving behind the lover you met on vacation is definitely one of George's more underrated singles, which kinda got overshadowed by all the much bigger hits that surrounded it on this album, so I am so glad it did not slip through the cracks here. It has a very pleasant melody, and a nice calm groove to it. Looking at what is left though, I am totally fine saying goodbye to this now.
BTW, this relates to the seagull picture because of the slight gull sounds that you can hear at the end of the track. George let that be added to the song, I think begrudgingly, and that has grown to be one of his big regrets as an artist. He just hates it so much! Those darn fake seagull sounds plague him to this day! Lmao
