While I like the video series, it doesn't really change the context of his use of "f4g". It's in the same vein of him using the N-word, he has a whole explanation about the offensive-ness in the Tana video. Which you can find here - www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8vaJaFCFYAI'm not gonna sit here and have a huge argument about what's right and wrong, I just wanted to give some context to the song since it's a confusing title.

As a chart fan, I need to point this out in this thread. I think this one of the rare cases that a peak should be ignored to determine if a song is a hit I would say this Taylor lead single is far from a hit. It had a huge buzz, and after a month, it's pretty much gone. I think is better to say here not because it's just Taylor, but overall, this could have a pretty unique and terrible chart run This was one of the worst music strategies that I've seen It's top 5 at iTunes and top 10 in airplay, so it's hardly "pretty much gone."

It's a definite hit. Anything that spends multiple weeks in the top 10, let alone #1 can't really be considered otherwise. Now is it a dissappointment for her? Probably, especially after those massive first couple weeks that are already LONG gone.

It's still Top 3 on the Hot 100 and should hang in the Top 10 for a while, is it a massive hit? No, but it's still a big hit none the less. The song did it's job, Taylor set it up to be a buzz single and to get the ball rolling again. People were talking about the song and video for weeks, and that's what Taylor wanted, and that's what she got. It was never meant to be large hit, just something to get people talking about her again and set up the theme for Reputation. Her next single will likely have a better run, and by the looks of it that's already happening. ...Ready for It? is officially the second single, the song gets pushed on radio on October 17th, and it's already doing well on radio without even being pushed there yet. She'll be fine.

Since American Girl and You Wreck Me never charted before, they won't need to beat the recurrent rules, right?

Well what that DIDN'T mean was that we need to be reviving the OTHER even worse, more pointless conversation of what is a hit or not. Might as well bring the entire unholy trinity and debate whether or not we'll still call having 16 weeks at number 1 "Mariah's record"

Since American Girl and You Wreck Me never charted before, they won't need to beat the recurrent rules, right? Actually, they have applied the recurrent rules to most older songs that haven't charted in the Hot 100 when the artist performing them has passed. One exception was Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen. Otherwise, they have needed to enter in the top 50 of the Hot 100 to chart.

Which was very surprising to me, as I thought the lead singles, I Bet My Life and Shots, were some of their best and had enormous crossover potential. The whole Smoke and Mirrors album I thought actually might have been their best. You are definitely in the minority there. Their last album is regarded as their worst by most fans, which likely contributed to how poorly it performed. I was surprised to see I bet my life flop. It was a great song!

It doesn't even seem that different from their current album, and it has the highest score of all their albums on metacritic (though it is only 60). Well, I'm proud to be in the minority then!

Does anyone remember the last time the #1 airplay song has had so little audience?

Would be a great time for Rihanna to drop her rumoured lead single. Bodak Yellow is doing great but it's probably the weakest #1 of the year.

Maybe it would be better to release the single in a month. If she drops it now it would probably waste a bunch of points in the 2017 chart year because it would only get like 5 weeks.

Already happened to several of her singles, including, IIRC, We Found Love, Only Girl and Diamonds. Did any of them feel like less of a hit because of it?

Yeah for the most part labels do not time their releases based on the Billboard chart year. There are more important considerations to take into account.

Arbitrary year-end charts don't mean a darned thing.

Happy for her that she can finally outpeak that Disney song everyone forgot about, but couldn't she have done it with a good song? :/ Literally the worst song by her. I'm not a fan of Demi, but I respect her voice. Stone Cold deserved to be her highest charting song. Thank you for the morning laugh. lol

Is radio purposely making SH and TNHMB losing their rhythmic airplay just to make FIS go up?
Next thing you know, Attention's going to become a victim too
