WELCOME to my very first rankdown as host! Who am I? My name is Tom, but you may know me as Dr Who, Garmonbozia, Blasphemous Rumours, or Bangwave. I will do my best to provide you with an enjoyable rankdown experience. You obviously enjoy the music of the Fab Five of New Wave (otherwise you wouldn't have bothered opening this thread), so let's not waste any time.  Contestants: I selected all of the singles (even the promo only and abandoned singles) as well as other songs where a music video was made for the song. I added a song here or there to get to an even 60 (edit: then pared it down to a more manageable 50) as well as to have at least 3 2 representatives from each proper album.
Instructions: You've probably done this many times before in other rankdowns, but for the uninitiated, here's how this works. Listen to the 60 50 songs below & then rank them in order of your preference, and PM your list to me. #1 is your favorite, #60 #50 is your least favorite. You must rank EVERY song & you must use every rank 1 thru 60 50 (so you cannot submit any ties). Although, the final posted results may have some ties - i'll get to tiebreakers later. Scoring: I will use an inverse point system where a #1 ranked song gets 60 50 points, #2 gets 59 49 points, etc all the way down to a song ranked at #60 #50 gets 1 point. I will then add up all of the points and the song with the most points wins. I will countdown the songs from least favorite to most favorite. If a tie happens along the way, highest top individual ranking will be used as a tiebreaker. Should there remain a tie, the second highest individual ranking will break the tie, etc on down the line. In the very rare event that the tie continues all the way down to the 60th highest ranking, then I will flip a coin to break the tie. Deadline: Saturday, November 18th. I will be giving reminders a week or so before, but start listening now so you won't miss out. Ooh Duran Duran was a BIG part of my childhood so I'm familiar with most of the stuff on here and even though I don't like them as much anymore, they still have some tracks I enjoy. I might do this if I have some extra time, should be a fun trip down memory lane.

I've been meaning to dig deeper into the Duran Duran discography, though, so this would be as good of a means of doing so as any.

Whoot Whoot! You have touched upon one of my favorite bands ever. I think this will be the hardest one I've done yet. I'm definitely going to watch my uncensored extended music videos for this.

After some contemplation, I've decided to scale this list down from 60 to 50 songs to make it more manageable for participants to get through. Now each album is represented by a minimum of 2 songs instead of 3, while their 3 best albums (I dare you to disagree) have 7 songs each due to their high quality.
HALF of these 50 contestants were Top 10 hits either in America or in Europe (often both), so I'm guessing you're already familiar with many of them. And hopefully you'll make some great discoveries amongst the others.
Deadline for submission has now been set: Saturday, November 18th.

OKAYYY!!!!! We're going to do 80s Rankdowns now? NICE! I know about 28 songs of this list, and I'm certainly interested in listening to the other ones. I saw them live not too long ago, and I had a BLAST! I have great memories of my childhood watching their videos: Rio, Union of the Snake, Reflex, Hungry like the Wolf, and of course Girls on Film, which was almost like soft porn when in puberty  I already have a #1 but don't know how I will end up ranking the next ones. Will be interesting! |

Will definitely do this. Keep tagging me in the reminders. I need to really relisten to everything that's after Perfect Day for sure.
And yes, I am 100% here for 80s rankdowns (and acts whose huge periods run through the 80s) all around. Depeche, Eurythmics, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Leppard, Heart, The Cars, Blondie, Petty, Mellencamp, etc.

Disco saw this last week when I accidentally PM'd this to him, but now everyone can catch up on the ballots cast ..........,..................................................................................................................................................... (plagiarized) B-B-B-BALLOT UPDATE!!! We have received several submissions, so let's examine the voting tally at this early stage: Our top 11 songs are all at or above 100 points, while the song at #12 will cross that threshold soon as it has 99 points. Our bottom 9 songs all have under 50 points, and the poor song in last place hasn't even got to 20 points yet We have 3 different #1s from 3 different posters There are 3 different songs that have received at Top10 rank, but do not have enough points to reach the overall Top20 The top 3 songs have Top10 ranks from all posters so far, while the song currently at #9 doesn't have any Top10 ranks yet (probably all good candidates for lowest Standard Deviation) Our biggest gaps are the 9 point gap between #6 & #7 as well as a 9 point gap between #49 & the poor song at #50  We have ties at #10, #17, #27, #29, & #31 there is a 3-way tie at #23 there is a 4-way tie at #33 Submit your ballot & shake up these results in your favor! Deadline is Saturday, November 18th. |

This was a hard rankdown to do in the sense that there were just a few songs that I didn't like much or they just weren't my thing. A lot of the songs are just placed somewhere in relation to the other ones in terms of which ones I liked/loved more and which ones I liked less. They have a very solid discography.
