This year, "Blood" by Kendrick Lamar charted, which is considered by Wikipedia to be a spoken word song, but is considered by many fans to merely be a skit. Unlike a non-musical skit, Blood is a 118 second non-rhythmic poetry spoken over a building musical instrumental. A typical "non-musical skit" would be something like the 19 second intro to Kanye West's "The College Dropout", which consists of dialogue spoken by comedian DeRay Davis.
Now, we've had quite a few albums in the last few years to debut all, or nearly all, of their tracks. These include: What A Time To Be Alive, Purpose, Beauty Behind The Madness, Views, Lemonade, DAMN, More Life, 4 Your Eyez Only, Starboy, 4:44, and maybe one or two that I'm forgetting.
But none of these albums have included full skits. Many of them have included intros and outros. A few "interludes" have charted, including "Skepta Interlude" and "4422" which are songs credited to Drake, that don't actually have any vocals from him. We also had the majority of XXXTENTACION's "17" chart on the Hot 100, but a track that missed the chart was "The Explanation" a 51 second track with no background music, of XXX reciting a speech about the album to his audience. Often times, from albums like "17", where a large number of songs are pushed onto the Hot 100 via streaming, the first track does better than most purely because of its position in the front of the album (Blood charted higher than Duckworth, for example). "Silver Surfer Interlude" from The Life of deleted is another non-musical skit from a majorly successful album that didn't make the Hot 100.
However, in a month or so, we're getting an Eminem album.
Eminem should be able to chart every song off of his new album onto the Hot 100, assuming that there is nothing weird like Tidal that gets in his way. Eminem's albums all contain short non-musical skits.
What are the odds that a short non-musical skit from Eminem charts?
If none comes from the upcomming Eminem album, might we get one like "Silver Surfer Interlude" or "The Explanation" in the next few years as streaming debuts continue to grow?
