I'm talking about charts. Don't Stop Believin' is not the biggest hit of the 80s from a charts view. I am also talking about the charts, Don't Stop Believin is a perfect example of how little chart peaks mean after the week it charted. A #9 peak for example, only means 8 songs were bigger than it DURING THAT WEEK, nothing more. When you start comparing songs from different time periods, and you rely heavily on peaks, you lose things like -market conditions -the competition of that song during that week -Pricing -Did streaming exist or not exist -Also Billboard's quirky rules come into play. - (Examples here, 90s airplay-only songs(Don't Speak, Iris, etc.), never charted but does not mean they were not bigger hits than songs that did chart. Prior to 2012 songs could hit #1 on digital and never touch the Hot 100 - doesn't mean they weren't hits)
And many other things So whose to say a song that had a higher peak in one week is a bigger hit than a song with a lower peak in a different. You really don't know. It is all an opinion. Which is what you have here.

No. Apologize was much bigger than TOL. #10 decade-end Hot 100 #10 decade-end Radio Songs #10 decade-end Digital Songs Also, Counting Stars is the biggest #2 of the 2010s. Poor, One Republic. *Radioactive (#3 peak in 2013) is the biggest non-#1 of the decade. Other 2010s non-#1 hits that were bigger than TOL: Dynamite (#2 in 2010) Trap Queen (#2 in 2015) Hey Soul Sister (#3 in 2010) Hmm ok. I only mentioned because I remember you remarking a while back that TOL was a very big #2

I used TOL for example because it had a high peak in points but Uptown Funk was simply unbeatable during its peak.

"Without any radio deals" ? Are you serious or what lol. It had ton of radio deals.. His label was pushing it like crazy on the radio. Radio deal implies something like what most major artists get now for their debut weeks, where the label "pays" to get the song played every hour, every other hour, etc... If it got a radio deal yet couldn't even crack top 50, that cheque was pretty lousy. How do labels get around the fact that this sounds a lot like payola? I mean isn't that illegal?

Really out of topic, but these are the most robbed songs to peak at #2 imo: Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen In The End - Linkin Park I Don't Wanna Know - Mario Winans f/ Enya & P. Diddy (not that i like the song, but it spent 8 consecutive weeks at #2, blocked by 2 Usher songs) Boulevard Of Broken Dreams - Green Day Smack That - Akon f/ Eminem Apologize - OneRepublic (and whale sounds) Party In The U.S.A - Miley Cyrus You Belong With Me - Taylor Swift Bad Romance - Lady Gaga Airplanes - B.o.B f/ Hayley Williams Dynamite - Taio Cruz Gangnam Style - PSY Get Lucky - Daft Punk f/ Pharrell Williams Counting Stars - OneRepublic Take Me To Church - Hozier Hotline Bling - Drake Missy Elliott - Work It Avril Lavigne - Complicated Kelly Clarkson - Since U Been Gone Ciara f. Missy Elliott - 1,2 Step

I don't believe Gorgeous can go top 15, it has quite good digital sales but that's pretty much it.

I don't believe Gorgeous can go top 15, it has quite good digital sales but that's pretty much it. Streaming was apparently pretty good, though #15 seems pretty high anyways. Ugly fall for What About Us, but oh well, at least it's doing really well on radio. RE: Most #2 hits, I think it's Madonna? Material Girl, Causing a Commotion, Express Yourself, Cherish, I'll Remember and Frozen. (Thank God she does have 12 #1 hits).

^ I wouldn't count on it at this point. But the fact that it's set for the Year-End is enough for me.
Anyway, I think simm is the only person to predict What About Us to fall right out of the Top 20. I mean, I could've sworn I saw some predictions here expecting it to enter the Top 10! Not only that, but he's the only one I've seen predict Perfect for Top 10. Well, we'll find out in two hours!

Why are we even getting these 'simm' projections? Last week, it was way off. Who is this person and why should we care? Perhaps, it can be posted in the predictions section.

Its jump last week was primarily due to elevated sales and streaming because of the album release. It lost pretty much all of those gains this week.

He was way off cause they changed the formula for the streams.

I would actually prefer if people didn't post them in here and instead posted them in the actual predictions thread.. I'm being a little selfish but I actually think seeing predictions ruins the fun of waiting for the top 10 (and watching the countdown), and anyone who cares about predictions will already be active in that prediction thread anyway so there is little need for them here

I disagree: at least last I checked, the point of the predictions thread was to try to guess off early intuition what would happen, since you get penalized for guesses later on the week. Simm, on the other hand, actually factors in formal factors of stats to produce accurate results accounting for rounding and margins because of imperfect data (namely sales, airplay, and the nebulous field that is programmed streams) and he actually updates his projections as more data comes in.

The majority though prefer the prediction games and contests that happen here each week. Because every chart now has a prediction thread in the chart discussion forum, chart discussion turns from actually discussing the charts to: Expressing amazement that OMG #8 was predicted for a song but it came in #7 If a song can only hang on one more week it might rise to #93 on the year end chart <Insert song here> because it charted at #47 this week it is now the 83rd biggest song of the decade! woo-hoo Feel free to throw in some actual chart discussion along the way to keep things interesting.
