This will be a massive hit on all levels. Probably an early contender for 2018 "song of the year" type awards.

This makes me like what he's going for here even more. Like I already kinda felt like "oh this is coming out at a pretty appropriate time," but yeah, that definitely reaffirms it. I feel pretty much the same way as carriekins. I'm rooting for this because #preach Keith! ... but probably from the sidelines because I like this okay, but I don't really love it as an entire package, lol.

I really want to like this, and Nicolle Galyon is one of my favourite composer, but the chorus doesn't really work and the hook as it is, is pretty weak.
But I'm here for this message, so here to hope this actually goes #1

Hmmm I actually quite like this one. Won't be one of my favorites from Keith, but the chorus is very sneakily catchy IMO. I could see this one really growing on me. More of a chill tune from Keith. I could see this being either really big and #1 for two weeks, or I could see it peaking just outside the top 10. Could see this being a song that radio catches flack for if they refuse to spin it (much like "Girl Crush").

Echoing carriekins, it is so refreshing to see a top-tier male in this genre come out and release a song like this. I support this, and I'm a fan of its timeliness, considering the date of its release and its importance. Also, kudos to him and the writers for taking it upon themselves to react to the Weinstein news in such a poised and artistic fashion. The only irksome component (lyrically) for me is the chorus.

Feels a bit pandering to me. Moreso 'strike while the iron's hot and make some cash off controversy' vs. wanting to make an actual statement. :/
Maybe it will grow on me, but as of now - not a fan at all.

Gosh! This is good! Love it! Keith has a way to release unique songs that people love and this is no different. No wonder this man has a streak of 30 plus top 10 hits!

I heard this for the first time via the CMAs. I love it. A couple of the words in the chorus are odd--technicolor??? That said, I think this will become one of my absolute favorites by him. I had just bought Ripcord for my mother's birthday a month ago (and burned myself a copy, lol). Now I'll be getting his next album for myself.

#1 on iTunes, nice. That’s at least his fourth single in a row that’s hit top ten on there. I’m not fond of list songs but Keith sings this appealingly.

Yeah, wow at this being #1 all-genre on iTunes. I don't know if Keith has ever done that before. I'm sure it won't stay there beyond this week, but if this can manage to stay top 10 to top 20 on iTunes throughout its chart run at country radio, then "Female" is going to be a huge, huge smash.
This song is growing on me. It's still not one of my favorites from him (because Keith's discography is simply incredible), but he sounds great, and I think it's a great song overall. The chorus is still my least favorite part but it gets better with each listen.

Agreed! First listen, I liked the lyrics but not the sound of the song (just heard a clip from ITunes). Second time saw it on the CMAs, but my broadcast cut off most of the first verse, so I still haven't even heard that part. I rewatched the performance 2 or 3 times and it definitely has grown on me. I like the message and idea behind the song and think Keith does a great job on it. Like he said, he's not even really considering it a single so much as just a message that needed to be heard.

It probably won't stay long after tomorrow only because of Taylor's album. I assume that'll litter the Top 20. Hopefully this can stay high regardless.

I did hear Keith in an interview today say that his wife, Nicole and the cowriter, Nicolle did sing on the record! Pretty cool to me.

The drum beat I'm not a fan of on this song but other than that, I like just about everything else (lyrics, vocals). It's good timing and the platform f the CMA Awards should make this another big hit for Keith.

I don't see this growing on me. I find it really abysmal musically; the chorus in particular is mind-numbly bad. I hated it when I heard it on the awards last night, and I don't like it any better now listening to the studio. And yeah, I agree with what you said about the lyrics. The song just doesn't feel authentic to me.

Wow, absolutely love this. What a powerful song, and good for Keith for standing up for this. I see where some would find the chorus awkward but it doesn't bother me too much.
Didn't love Keith's last album but have traditionally been a huge fan of his. Definitely his best in a while, and I see this really smashing big.

Imo this song is kind of a mixed bag overall, though there's more good then bad. I like the instrumentation I like the message, and I think parts of this, specifically the second verse, are very well written. At the same time it overall feels a little unwritten and I can't help but think that this song would be a lot more poignant if it was less repeative, particularly in that list chorus, which sounds fairly nice but doesn't really convey the emotion that the verses do. It also feels a bit too safe for my tastes -- though I acknowledge him making a song like this was a big risk, I would have liked to see him go more in depth about some of the issues rather then just scraping the surface seemingly for the sake of pandering.
Again I do like it and admire what they were going for, but it just feels a bit too overly broad and safe.

I like Keith and the sentiment that he was going for, but the song itself doesn't do much for me. I hope that it grows on me over time.

If you hate the website so much, then why do you post the review? I actually kind of agree to an extent, instead of a song like this speaking of the positive aspects of women, it'd be better if the country music industry supported actual female vocal songs than this "empowerment" anthem. I do think that the way Trigger writes is an acquired taste, but I do like that he is a critical voice and his site does get intrest and a lot of views, so clearly he's doing something right.

The problem with this song is pretty much what Stephen Colbert roasted it for, which is that the chorus is just a Mad Lib of feminine words strung together. The verses are where it showed promised, but they're rather underdeveloped in favor of the chorus being an extended word salad and the focus of the song.
That said, I think the effort with this song is worth noting. I mean... he could've done what Luke Bryan and led his next album off with dreck about checking his phone for text messages, but he at least tried to find something that had a relevant and timely message, even if the finished product isn't the great statement it could've been.
Obviously the ideal situation would be for women to get more airplay on country radio, but male artists recording stuff that goes in this direction or speaking up about the inequalities in country music does help. Keith Urban can't directly get radio to play more females, but songs like this definitely serve to push the agenda a bit.

The Country Universe review points out some of the same things other have said: www.countryuniverse.net/2017/11/13/single-review-keith-urban-female/If you hate the website so much, then why do you post the review? I agree with that general point that a few sources have made, BUT I don't feel like that should be held against Urban or the song. Any artists creating a song to empower women and/or try to knock down harassment is a good thing; I just wish this song was better written.

How many songs have been premiered on the CMA Awards and went on to be massive hits? I can think of one and possibly another. The one I know for a fact was Alan Jackson’s “Where Were You (When The World Stopped Turning)”. The one I’m not sure about was Tim McGraw’s “Live Like You Were Dying”. Can’t remember if he premiered it on the CMA or ACM Awards.
