In the Rankdowns queue thread, I mentioned a while back that I wanted to so something called 12 Rankdowns of Christmas. As a play on the well-known 12 Days of Christmas, there will be a mini-rankdown of Christmas songs every day for 12 days leading up to December 25! (Actually, this rankdown will run from Dec. 11 to Dec. 22, so it can be finished by the weekend before Christmas.) This is an idea I had b/c there are SO many songs, and I know it will be a busy time for everyone; so I wanted to create a fun way for people to knock out a quick rankdown or two (or twelve, if you are so inclined) without having to put a lot of time or thought into it.
1. Each day will have its own theme with 10 to 20 songs, except for the 12th one, which has 25 - I really meant it when I say "mini"!
2. You are not required to participate in each rankdown; you can submit to as many or as few days you wish. However, any rankdown you submit must include all of the songs, and only those songs, given for a particular day. No omissions and no mixing and matching allowed.
3. The deadline for each rankdown will be 5 pm CST on the day before the rankdown. (I.e., December 11's rankdown is due on December 10 at 5 CST, December 12's rankdown is due on December 11, etc.) No extensions will be granted for any day, because you can't get a deadline more last-minute than this lol.
4. If you do participate in multiple rankdowns, you do not have to submit them all at once, but make sure all submissions are made in the same PM. Do not send me separate PMs for each individual submission. Just make new replies in the same PM thread. This is the most important rule of them all! My inbox is already messy enough.
5. For the Holy Christmas and Classic Christmas rankdowns, you can rank those songs based on whatever version of the song is your favorite. If you choose to rank any of those songs based on a version other than what I've listed, please mention it in your PM so I can give that cover a mention during the reveal. For all the other rankdowns, you must rank based on the version by the given artist.
6. Rankings will be determined by median scores; ties will be broken average rank. Using median will likely result in a lot of necessary tiebreakers but I think that will ultimately be more reflective of overall popularity for these rankdowns.
I will update this post later with playlists but if you want to get a head start, everything is on YT except Prince's Another Lonely Christmas, which is on Spotify.
Feel free to leave suggestions if there's a missing classic that you think warrants special attention. With that said, keep in mind that the max for any list is 25 songs (and preferably no more than 20) because I want to keep this as simple as possible. Some lists have less room to expand than others.
If you have any questions that weren't answered in this OP, just ask! You do not have to be tagged to participate and if you want to be untagged just let me know.
Also, castleoblivion26 is currently revealing songs for his Country Christmas rankdown, which will be open soon; if you prefer one big rankdown instead of a bunch of small ones or 20 country songs is just not enough room to cover all the twangy holiday tunes you want to hear, you should definitely check that out!

I have an unhealthy obsession with this song; it is far and away my most favorite traditional carol, so much so that I even snuck a cover of it into the rock rankdown. Apparently I'm not the only one who has a problem - according to Spotify, Silent Night is the most covered Christmas song ever, with approximately 26,500 different artists offering at least one rendition of it. We really don't need that many covers of any one song but I suppose people like me are the reason why there are so many. Even I don't have it in me to sift through all 26,500 versions however, so I've not-so-randomly selected a few to be ranked against each other. We will settle once and for all who has the definitive Silent Night! (Or I'll judge you for eternity for getting it wrong lol)
