So it went down further...
She can take joy in her 4 million selling debuts and a consistent fan base that she knows will always show out for her.

Who cares, still FANTASTIC numbers.

HDD had 30k from TEA though but I guess it will still be lower than 1989

The slight drop in sales is not surprising at all. Still great numbers for her overall!

Wow. I have never purchased a Swift album (i like most of her singles) but her album sales are just beyond amazing. And she is able to open with these huge numbers in 2017 and without any help from a ticket bundle. Taylor would be the perfect artist for a ticket bundle bc her tours sell out fast. Congrats to all the Taylor fans, a great time to be a fan I'm sure.

all of her singles so far have been extremely frontloaded. I wouldn't be surprised if her album was too.

Chart Watch: Taylor Swift sells more than 1 million copies for the fourth time
Paul Grein Writer Yahoo MusicNovember 20, 2017 Taylor Swift just enhanced her “reputation” as the top-selling American recording artist. Swift’s sixth studio album, reputation, sold 1,216,000 copies in the U.S. (in traditional album sales) in its first week of release. Here are 13 fairly mind-boggling facts about Swift’s achievement.
1) This marks the fourth time that Swift has topped the million mark in first-week sales. No other artist has achieved that feat with more than two albums.
2) reputation sold nearly as many copies (in traditional album sales) as Swift’s previous album, 1989. That album started with sales of 1,287,000 in November 2014. (Overall album sales have been declining for years, so nearly equaling a feat from three years ago is an achievement.)
3) reputation’s first-week sales tally (in traditional album sales) is nearly equal to the first-week sales tallies of this year’s next four fastest-breaking albums combined. They are Pink’s Beautiful Trauma (384K), Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN. (353K), Ed Sheeran’s ÷ (322K), and Drake’s More Life (226K).
4) Swift’s showing is remarkable because she has been a recording star for more than a decade. (Her first album was released in October 2006.) Only one other artist with more than a decade under their belt has ever sold 1 million copies in a week. That was the Beatles, who achieved that milestone with their 2000 hits compilation 1.
5) After just one week, reputation is the year’s best-selling album. It pushes ahead of Ed Sheeran’s ÷, which has sold 931K copies. (Sheeran is featured, along with Future, on “End Game,” the second track on reputation.)
6) This will be the third time that Swift has had the year’s best-selling album. Fearless was the best-selling album of 2009. 1989 was on top in 2014. Swift will be the first artist to have the year’s best-selling album three times with three different albums since Nielsen started tracking U.S. music sales in 1991. Adele, Eminem, and Justin Timberlake each had the year’s best-selling album with two different albums. (Timberlake’s tally counts an *NSYNC album.)
7) This will be the seventh time in the past nine years that either Swift or Adele has had the year’s top-selling album. Adele’s 21 was on top for both 2011 and 2012; her follow-up, 25, was the sales leader for both 2015 and 2016. The only other artists to have the year’s top album in this nine-year stretch are Eminem (Recovery, 2010) and Justin Timberlake (The 20/20 Experience, 2013).
8) reputation is Swift’s fifth consecutive studio album to reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Only three other female solo artists have achieved that feat. Beyoncé has reached No. 1 with all six of her solo studio albums. Madonna and Janet Jackson each hit No. 1 with five consecutive studio albums.
9) Two songs from reputation, “Look What You Made Me Do” and “…Ready for It?,” have already made the top 10 on the Hot 100. reputation is Swift’s fifth consecutive studio album to spin off two or more top 10 hits.
10) reputation moved 1,238,000 in its first week in “equivalent units,” which factors in digital track sales. (That tally also takes into account streaming, but Swift’s album wasn’t available for streaming.) Billboard‘s introduction of “equivalent units” occurred four weeks after 1989 debuted, so there is no “equivalent” figure for 1989’s debut week.
11) reputation‘s “equivalent units” tally is considerably more than the first-week totals by the year’s next two fastest-breaking albums combined. They are Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN. (603K) and Drake’s More Life (505K)
12. reputation is all but assured of remaining at No. 1 next week. Tim McGraw and Faith Hill’s The Rest of Our Life is on track to debut at No. 2. Thus, Swift will block McGraw’s path to landing a fifth No. 1 album. Ironically, Swift’s first single, in 2006, was titled “Tim McGraw.” Also, Swift and McGraw collaborated on the 2013 hit “Highway Don’t Care” (which also featured Keith Urban on guitar).
13. reputation also enters the official U.K. Albums Chart at No. 1. It’s Swift’s third consecutive studio album to top the U.K. chart.

Coming Attractions: Look for Tim McGraw and Faith Hill’s The Rest of Our Life to debut at No. 2 next week. Camila Cabello’s “Havana” (featuring Young Thug) holds at No. 2 for the third week in its 14th week on the chart. The song sold 75K digital copies this week, which enables it to move up to No. 1 on Top Digital Songs, displacing Taylor Swift’s “Call It What You Want.” “Havana” logs its third week at No. 1 on The Official U.K. Singles Chart. Lil Pump’s “Gucci Gang” vaults from No. 12 to No. 3 in its 10th week. This is its highest ranking to date.

Six weeks ago, it tied Lady Gaga’s “Telephone” as Beyoncé’s highest-charting featured credit. “Telephone” reached No. 3 in April 2010.
Maroon 5’s “What Lovers Do” (featuring SZA) drops out of the top 10 this week. Eminem’s “Walk on Water” (featuring Beyoncé) is this week’s top new entry at No. 14. The song is the lead single from Eminem’s eighth major-label studio album, Revival. The first singles from Eminem’s last six studio albums have made the top 10. “Walk on Water” is the 57th Hot 100 hit for both Eminem and Beyoncé. The two stars have something else in common. Both have received three Grammy noms for Album of the Year. Neither has ever won

Just rounding off to the nearest hundred thousand, it means Taylor Swift has a 1.2 million selling album versus a 1.3 million seller.

?????????? hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=309435Monday, November 20, 2017 AMATO’S GOTTA GOOur latest SPS chart has Taylor Swift's #1 bow for reputation at 1.29m, edging past the first-week total for prior giant 1989. But in a further demonstration of how completely out of touch John Amato and team are, the industry Bible gave her a total of around 1.26m. In doing so, they took their eye off the ball during a crucial moment for the entire industry—because they didn’t care. If they did care, they would’ve done the work to find out what really happened with the year's most eagerly awaited album, considering the importance of an accurate count to one of the industry's hugest stars, her label or the biz at large. The performance of reputation in the 2017 marketplace is historic; despite steep drops in retail, Taylor achieved an unprecedented fourth straight million-plus bow almost entirely with sales and eclipsed the 2014 debut of her last blockbuster. When they saw our chart number (a total with which BuzzAngle Music agrees), they could’ve dug down into their numbers to locate the malfunction. But they couldn’t be bothered. Taylor and Big Machine are said to be apoplectic about this absurd lapse. A publication that cared about the music business would have done its utmost to get this right. Even if it required Amato to miss a photo op backstage at the AMAs. But Billboard isn't in the music business. If it wants to change this, Amato and his coterie of sycophants must go.

Does anyone really care? Second week drop will be way more interesting, and even with HITS' numbers it was down from 1989 in total sales (add SPS to 1989's first week for an apples-to-apples comparison).

Official: Taylor Swift's 'Reputation' Album Sells 1.2M Copies in US During First Week News By Keith Caulfield | November 20, 2017 8:17 PM EST
Taylor Swift performs onstage during the 2017 DIRECTV NOW Super Saturday Night Concert at Club Nomadic on Feb. 4, 2017 in Houston, Texas.
It’s official: Taylor Swift’s Reputation album sold 1.216 million copies in its first week in the U.S., according to Nielsen Music. That sum -- reflecting the tracking week ending Nov. 16 -- is the 10th-largest sales week for any album since Nielsen Music began electronically tracking sales in 1991 and Swift’s fourth million-selling week. She is the only artist in Nielsen Music history to achieve four million-selling weeks. (Previously, both Swift and Adele had three million-selling frames.)
Reputation is Swift’s sixth studio album and was released on Nov. 10 through Big Machine Records. Swift earlier earned million-selling weeks with the debut weeks of each of her last three studio sets: 1989 (1.287 million in 2014), Red (1.208 million, 2012) and Speak Now (1.047 million, 2010).
Read more: Taylor Swift's 'Reputation' Debuts at No. 1 on Billboard 200 Albums Chart
Reputation’s debut sales sum is the largest sales week for any album since the week ending Nov. 26, 2015, when Adele’s 25 bowed with a Nielsen Music-era one-week record of 3.378 million copies. (25 is the only album with multiple million-selling weeks. Following its debut, it sold 1.112 million in its second week, and 1.157 million in its fifth frame.)
As earlier reported, Reputation is already the best-selling album of 2017. It surpassed the total sales of the year’s previous No. 1 seller, Ed Sheeran’s ÷ (Divide), which has sold 931,000 through Nov. 16. Reputation also debuts at No. 1 on the consumption-based Billboard 200 albums chart dated Dec. 2, giving Swift her fifth chart topping effort. It follows her previous leaders 1989, Red, Speak Now and Fearless (2008).

Taylor Swift's 'Reputation' Debuts at No. 1 on Billboard 200 Albums Chart News By Keith Caulfield | November 20, 2017 8:16 PM EST
'Reputation' is her fifth No. 1 on the list, following '1989,' 'Red,' 'Speak Now' and 'Fearless.'
Taylor Swift’s Reputation blasts in at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart with 2017’s biggest week for an album, as the set earned 1.238 million equivalent album units in the week ending Nov. 16, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 1.216 million were in traditional album sales -- the largest sales frame for an album since 2015.
Reputation is Swift’s sixth studio album and was released on Nov. 10 through Big Machine Records. It is her fifth No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new Dec. 2-dated chart (where Reputation launches at No. 1) will be posted in full on Billboard’s websites on Tuesday, Nov. 21.
Reputation’s whopping 1.216 million sales figure is the biggest sales week of 2017, and the 10th largest sales week for any album since Nielsen Music began electronically tracking sales in 1991. Further, Reputation secures Swift her fourth million-selling week. She is the only artist in Nielsen Music history to achieve four million-selling weeks. (Previously, both Swift and Adele had three million-selling frames.)
Swift earlier earned million-selling weeks with the debut weeks of each of her last three studio albums: 1989 (1.287 million in 2014), Red (1.208 million, 2012) and Speak Now (1.047 million, 2010). The album’s 1.216 million sales start is the largest week for any album since the week ending Nov. 26, 2015, when Adele’s 25 debuted with a Nielsen Music-era one-week record of 3.378 million copies. (25 is the only album with multiple million-selling weeks. Following its debut, it sold 1.112 million in its second week, and 1.157 million in its fifth frame.)
Reputation’s equivalent album unit figure of 1.238 million is the largest week for any album this year and the biggest since Adele’s 25 bowed with 3.482 million units in the tracking week ending Nov. 26, 2015. Reputation’s unit total of 1.238 million is mostly comprised of traditional album sales (1.216 million albums sold), along with a small number of TEA units (8,000) and SEA units (13,000) from the album’s four songs that were available to purchase a la carte through digital retailers and stream via on-demand audio services during the album’s first week of availability.
As previously reported, Reputation is already the best-selling album of 2017. With 1.216 million sold, it surpassed the total sales of the year’s previous No. 1 seller, Ed Sheeran’s ÷, which has sold 931,000 through Nov. 16. Of Reputation’s starting sales sum of 1.216 million, the set sold 709,000 digital albums in its first week -- the third-largest sales week for a digital album in Nielsen Music history. It trails only the debut of Adele’s 25 (1.64 million) and the opening frame of Drake’s Views (852,000 in 2016). Reputation’s digital sales figure is particularly noteworthy, considering the digital version of the album was sold exclusively through the iTunes Store and Swift’s official website during its first week. (The album has since become widely available.)
Further, Reputation also sold 507,000 physical copies in its debut frame (all on CD). That’s the biggest week for a physical album since Adele’s 25 sold 1.03 million copies on CD and vinyl LP in the week ending Dec. 24, 2015 -- its fifth week of release. Reputation was promoted heavily through Target stores, where the album was available in two exclusive editions, bundled with a Swift-curated magazine. (No bonus tracks were featured on any version of the album, CD or digital.)
Reputation’s overall album sales were likely enhanced to a degree by how the full album was not available on streaming services during release week. (Adele’s 25 also was withheld from streaming services in its debut frame, save for its lead single, “Hello.”)
At No. 2 on the new Billboard 200 chart, Sam Smith’s The Thrill of It All slips one rung to No. 2 in its second week (66,000 units; down 72 percent). Chris Brown’s Heartbreak on a Full Moon is steady at No. 3 (51,000 units; down 31 percent) and Post Malone’s Stoney climbs 9-4, returning to its peak (39,000 units; down 3 percent). Ed Sheeran’s ÷ climbs 10-5 with just under 39,000 units (up 7 percent).
21 Savage, Offset and Metro Boomin’ s collaborative album Without Warning falls 5-6 with 37,000 units (down 33 percents) and Maroon 5’s Red Pill Blues drops 2-7 in its second week with 36,000 units (down 70 percent). The second and final debut in the top 10 comes from rock band Evanescence, which starts at No. 8 with its new album Synthesis (34,000 units; 30,000 in traditional album sales). The set features orchestral reworkings of the group’s earlier songs, including “Bring Me to Life,” in addition to few new tunes. Synthesis is Evanescence’s first album since its 2011 self-titled release, which debuted at No. 1. The new album is the group’s fourth top 10 effort, following Evanescence, The Open Door (No. 1 in 2006) and Fallen (No. 3, 2003).
Rounding out the top 10: Kenny Chesney’s Live in No Shoes Nation dips 6-9 (33,000 units; down 37 percent) and Blake Shelton’s Texoma Shore falls 4-10 (32,000 units; down 49 percent).

The funny thing about all this is that Hits Daily Double actually reported 1.316 million for 1989. 1.287 million was the Billboard number.

lol HDD is full of themselves. their whole "we're the one for industry" is tired. By the same token, their "suck up to the industry types" does seem to work. Slobbing over people like Charlie Walk and Scooter Braun clearly seems to yield some scoops. Their "Billboard doesn't care about you guys" narrative also seems to be working. A bunch of industry types seemed to back their "Billboard is stupid for adding YouTube streams to its album chart" rant. And, in this case, Scott Borchetta/Big Machine are publicly sharing the BuzzAngle sales data rather than Billboard's numbers, which is a major symbolic victory for Hits/BuzzAngle (and a major symbolic blow for Billboard).

The set -- which is also John’s 48th charting effort overall -- enters at No. 23 with 18,000 units (12,000 from traditional album sales). Among all artists with the most top 40 albums, John ties Neil Young for the seventh-most. Ahead of them: Frank Sinatra (56 top 40 albums), Elvis Presley (54), Barbra Streisand (51), Bob Dylan (47), The Rolling Stones (46) and The Beatles (41). Diamonds is John’s sixth greatest hits album to reach the Billboard 200. It follows Greatest Hits (No. 1 for 10 weeks, debuting in 1974), Elton John’s Greatest Hits, Volume II (No. 21, 1977), Greatest Hits, Vol. III 1979-1987 (No. 84, 1987), Greatest Hits 1970-2002 (No. 12, 2002) and Rocket Man: Number Ones (No. 9, 2007). John has additionally charted compilations like the archival box set To Be Continued… (No. 82, 1990), a Duets set (No. 25, 1993), a ballads collection titled Love Songs (No. 24, 1996), and the live hits album One Night Only — The Greatest Hits (No. 65, 2000). — Walk the Moon, What If Nothing – No. 40 — The rock band’s new album What If Nothing debuts at No. 40, earning 14,000 units (9,000 in traditional album sales). It’s the third top 40-charting effort for the act, which previously visited the region with Talking is Hard (No. 14, 2015) and its self-titled album (No. 36, 2012). The album is currently enjoying a hit single with “One Foot,” which debuts at No. 31 on the Adult Pop Songs airplay chart and climbs 19-8 on the Hot Rock Songs chart. — Metallica, Master of Puppets – No. 46 — Metallica’s third studio album returns to the chart, following its deluxe reissue on Nov. 10. The set was remastered and re-released in a number of new editions, including a single CD, a vinyl LP and a three-CD set. Those versions are tracked together with the original release from 1986 for sales and charting purposes, and together, they re-enter at No. 46 with 13,000 units (12,000 in traditional album sales). In addition, a further super deluxe version of the set, which boasts 10 CDs, three LPs, a cassette and two DVDs tracks separately due to its large amount of bonus content. The super deluxe permutation bows at No. 165 with 5,000 units, nearly all from traditional album sales. — Various Artists, Cities 97 Sampler, Volume 29 – No. 89 — The long-running charity compilation series from KTCZ Minneapolis (Cities 97) debuts its 29th volume at No. 89, earning 8,000 units (all from traditional album sales). The set features live tunes recorded at the radio station by the likes of James Blunt, Fitz and the Tantrums, and Andy Grammer. The album was exclusively available for purchase through the radio station’s web site and at Minneapolis-area Target stores. The first 28 editions of the series raised $12.5 million for hundreds of local charitable organizations. — R.E.M., Automatic for the People – No. 118 — The band’s 1992 album returns following its 25th anniversary deluxe reissue, re-entering the chart at No. 118 with 7,000 units (5,000 in traditional album sales). The set was re-released in a variety of new versions: a remastered digital album, a vinyl LP, a 2-CD set and a 3-CD/1-Blu-ray offering. The multi-disc versions include live tracks and demo recordings. All editions of the album are tracked together with the original 1992 release. Automatic for the People was R.E.M.’s third top 10 album, and followed their first No. 1 set, 1991’s Out of Time. (Automatic spent two weeks at No. 2, stuck behind Garth Brooks’ The Chase.) In total, R.E.M. scored 10 top 10 albums, most recently with its final studio effort, 2011’s Collapse Into Now (No. 5). — Lil Peep, Call Me When You’re Sober (EP) – No. 168 — The late artist, who died on Nov. 15, debuts on the chart with his first album, Call Me When You’re Sober (EP). It bows on the list with 5,000 units (up 458 percent) and 1,000 in traditional album sales (up 2,543 percent). Overall, in the tracking week ending Nov. 16, Lil Peep’s total on-demand streams (audio and video combined) rose by 386 percent to 11.2 million. — Various Artists, Now That’s What I Call Merry Christmas (2017) – No. 170 — The Now That’s What I Call Music compilation brand collects its 132nd charting album with the No. 170 bow of Now That’s What I Call a Merry Christmas (2017). The set is different from the 2016 edition which was also titled That’s What I Call a Merry Christmas, which peaked at No. 54. The new volume is the 11th Christmas-themed Now album to chart.

lol HDD is full of themselves. their whole "we're the one for industry" is tired. I know you know this, but they are not Billboard's numbers. They are Nielsen Music's numbers. Billboard just has a license to use Nielsen Music figures. Taylor's label had her sales numbers Friday morning. Labels usually have 2 days days to work with Nielsen Music to get a number they can agree on if there are discrepancies. I'm not buying HITS' story that Billboard lost some of her sales. BuzzAngle completely missed Elton John's Diamonds album last week. BuzzAngle is not reliable at all.

-- BuzzAngle elaborated on the supposed discrepancy in an interview with NPR. www.npr.org/sections/therecord/2017/11/21/565761702/first-week-sales-of-taylor-swifts-reputation-vary-widely-depending-who-you-askEssentially, the claim is that Nielsen reports weekly data from the major retailers, which doesn't line up with the Friday-Thursday chart week. "Traditionally, [Nielsen] didn't get everything lined up to the week — the Target file ending on a Sunday or Amazon ending on a Wednesday, for example," Lidestri says. "So even though they were reporting a full week, it wasn't a full week from each of those retailers."
So BuzzAngle expects some of the "missing" sales to appear in this coming week's chart. Granted, Nielsen was actually sending out press releases with DAILY sales data, so I'm not sure the issue is as simple as Lidestri is suggesting. I'm also not sure why BuzzAngle would be able to get *better* data from the big retailers than Nielsen. Definitely seems like he's just trying to promote the "daily" aspect of the BuzzAngle model. In the past, BuzzAngle has also criticized Nielsen for using weighting when it should have been able to use actual data. -- But if this is true, it means... A) Billboard/Nielsen did nothing specifically different in this case, so why was Hits Daily Double ranting? B) The industry must know about this limitation and still treats the Nielsen data as the authoritative/official data. So it seems a bit lame for Big Machine to publicly back the BuzzAngle data here, just because it happens to paint a more favorable picture for this particular album.
