So I didn't really care for his cover of Taylor Swift's "Bad Blood" (although it is much better than the original), but this is a great lead single to a pretty good album from him. A Black Mile to the Surface is one of my favorite albums of the year, with Andy Hull pouring in a lot of emotion through his lyrics and vocal delivery. This and "The Alien" are two songs that exemplify that, in my opinion. The instrumentation is much more mellow compared to other Manchester Orchestra songs, but it's pretty enough. Listen to me! |

Although both The Boy Who Died Wolf and How Did We Get So Dark were underwhelming albums for two similar and promising rock newcomers (Highly Suspect and Royal Blood), they still had their moments. Ever been through a breakup? Then maybe you'll relate to this song's lyrics. And although the music starts out quite slow, it's enjoyable, especially when it develops until the climax.
